“Just what we needed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

I've been looking forward to reviewing this quaint little hotel. It turned out to be just what we needed.

First of all, it happens to be a little ways out of town, which turned out to be a happy accident. It was so quiet, peaceful and serene. We walked past other hotels on our way into, or in town, and would hear loud music from the pool area, or just lots of activity. We were so happy for our quiet little corner outside of town.

The hotel is owned and operated by a young French couple (and their adorable one year old daughter :)..... Clemence was such a warm, engaging, sincere hostess... truly interested in making our stay a good one.

The room was basic, but very clean and very adequate. A/C functioned well to keep us cool at night, and there was also a ceiling fan above the bed.

The pool area was fantastic... very clean, with many seating options.... loungers with very comfortable cushions, chairs with umbrellas, or chairs just outside each room, for shade and more privacy. We found the pool time here to be very relaxing. All the guests seemed to be into the same thing... just enjoying the peace and quiet and the ambience of the place.

There were several cats and a dog living there, as well as howler monkeys that would show up most mornings and late in the afternoon. Out the back door, was a farmers pasture with cows and horses.... a very pastoral setting.

They have assembled a great staff there... all were so great and accommodating.

The restaurant...one of the best features as well! First of all, breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was spectacular. Costa Rican coffee, fresh fruit juice, as well as fresh fruit, your choice of a variety of other things, ranging from Continental to Tipico. We stayed at the hotel for every single dinner... after the first one, we saw no reason to go elsewhere. They would have four entrees to choose from, which would be listed on a chalk board by mid afternoon, so you could have the rest of the day to salivate and make your choice for that day. Never disappointed. Usually there was one or two seafood dishes, maybe a pasta dish, maybe a chicken dish as well ... and a different little appetizer every day. Every meal we had was beautifully presented, and tasted fantastic. Desserts were the same.... four listed on the chalk board to choose from.... also delicious.... when we weren't too full after the delicious dinner!

If I could make one little suggestion.... it is very nice to have a little fridge in the room in that hot climate.... I understand that's a bit of an expense, but it's nice for travellers to be able to keep their beverages cold.

Over all, this place was a great find, and we would definitely return there, if ever in Samara again.

Thanks Clemence and family, and the rest of the team.

We stayed here for 4 nights in February. The hotel is a small family run establishment. The rooms are comfortable, very clean, and well maintained. The pool is a salt water pool and very refreshing. The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the beach, and of downtown Samara. Breakfast was quite good, and dinners were delicious and beautifully presented. Fruit cocktails were superb! The staff and owners were friendly and helpful. Overall it was a very positive experience.

This hotel is about 1.3 km from the town itself - thank heavens! Close proximity to the town might be wonderful for under 30s, but.....The hotel itself was great. Rooms weren't exactly spacious - ours was a family unit with divided spaces for a bunk bed for kids, so not much room inside, but good wardrobe space with shelving as well as hanging space. Bed was only a double, rather than queen, and comfortable, if a bit noisy. The bathroom was well designed for a small space. Lots of storage room for bits and pieces in a shelving system. AC and fan both worked well and quietly.
The pool area is well maintained and especially welcoming in the evening.
The food here is exceptional, both in quality and value. Different menus every night, most with a French touch. The service is also worth mentioning - the host is warm, friendly and helpful, and her staff are efficient.
We really regretted that we could only stay for 2 nights - this would be a wonderful place to relax for a few days at least. The only black spot was the presence in the grounds behind of some rather disturbed cows who mooed through the night! Highly recommended! (The hotel, not the cows)

We stayed in Samara for 5 nights during our holiday in Costa Rica and we had a fantastic time. I would say that the friendliness of the hotel staff really made our stay enjoyable in Samara.

Granted, the hotel is not on the beach, it isn't far either. If you have a car, it's a very quick car ride and you can find parking absolutely anywhere, once in town. From hotel door, to lying down on your towel on the beach, maximum 10 minutes. You can also walk if you like and that might be more like 20 minutes. Samara is a wonderful small town where you can walk around, go for runs, plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, convenience stores.

What was nice about the Hotel was that once we had had a lot of beach time, we could rest at the hotel and then spend more time in the pool to finish the day. Travelling with our 8 month old son, this was crucial to enjoying our time in the sun. Plus, the beach has no shade, so staying by the pool can be more useful at times.

We dined here every night because we could put our son to bed and then be in close proximity, while enjoying a nice meal. The meals were delicious! Very copious and succulent meat. We looked forward to seeing the menu daily. Now while we ate here every night because it was just more convenient for us, whether you stay here or not, do plan to eat at their restaurant at least once!!!

The owners are absolutely delightful and they have a wonderful team. I felt they made an effort to make everyone's stay pleasant and they do take the time to talk to you. Of course after 5 days we had plenty of time, and it was appreciated.

The rooms were comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. They are compact, but we still felt we had room to move around and let all our luggage explode around. Keep in mind, we also had a pack n play in there and we didn't feel that it was too small.

Value for money, we were very happy with this choice and would recommend it to anyone who is OK with staying just a few minutes away from the beach for a nice experience.

We just returned from 4 nights at the Pacific Lodge. We had a lovely stay. This was the last part of our trip so we wanted to relax and soak up the last of the rays while we had a chance. Clémence, the owner, is super hardworking and kind. She upgraded our room and took good care of us during our time there. The service was excellent as well. Both servers we had were lovely people. The included breakfast was the best of any hotel, it was delicious and there was a lot of choice. The restaurant was also excellent. Super fresh and delicious. The chef is fantastic and made me a salad one evening that I wished I had taken a photo of. It was a piece of art. The rooms were comfortable, with air conditioning, and very clean. There is also a hang out space with a few board games at the hotel and my kids really enjoyed playing with Jenga when they were tired of the pool! I'd recommend this hotel if you are in the Samara area.

Samara Pacific Lodge is at the same time close to "downtown" Samara and far enough that you can just stay there and enjoy your evening by the pool and take a break from the beach. We found ourselves very lucky to stay in room 14, which had beautiful french doors and a little patio at the back. We did't dine at the hotel's restaurant before the very last night, which is a shame because it was easily the best bang/buck we found in the city. Great steak. Our hosts were very friendly and I would really recommend this hotel if you speak French.

Room Tip: Room 14 was simply the best

I stayed at the Samara Pacific Lodge for 6 nights in December, and cannot say enough about how much, I enjoyed my stay. The owners are wonderful friendly people, and so helpful. Their restaurant has the best food in the area, and better than most restaurants I have experienced in the US. The entire staff was so friendly, and genuine, I felt like I had, made new friends, and look forward to staying their again. Thanks again for a great time Greg.
