“wonderful stay during the Holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Playa Samara is located about 120 km from Liberia airport, and takes about 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. Pierre (the owner) arranged for us a Taxi to come and pick us up, with a very friendly driver-Rodrigo. Taxi costs ($110-$130 depending on the time of day).
Our family of four stayed in the Iguana suite during the holiday season. the suite is very spacious (my guess approx 700 sqf ), has a master bedroom with a little office area, a living room with a second double bed, an equipped kitchen with all the basics and a beautiful covered portico that serves as a dining area. there's air condition for a small extra charge, and free internet. It is not luxurious, but rather rustic in a tasteful kind of way. Teak is used throughout the house, from exposed beam cathedral ceilings to cabinetry, doors and furniture. all hand made. Pierre's Photos decorate the walls, and make you think of your next holiday destination.
there's a small pool that is shared by all 4 units, which is really nice and gets some shade in the morning.
You are responsible for cleaning your room, and are provided with some basic detergents and broom.
Pali Supermarket is within a 100 yard distance, and Playa Samara supermarket within 250 yards. You can get groceries, additional cleaning supplies, and bug spray. The only thing we found you couldn't get because they sold out was a beach umbrella.
The hotel is situated within 5 minutes walk from the amazing Playa Samara beach, which we all loved. i have reviewed this beach separately, but will just say that because of the low tide you are sometimes required to sit in shade where the trees are, while the water is a good 20 yards away. (that's when the beach umbrella would come useful especially if you have little kids that don't want to come out of the water)
there's plenty of local restaurants, all within 5-10 min walking distance, ranging from decent to really excellent. our favorite was Casa Esmeralda. since they are all priced pretty much the same ($60 for 4 people) this one was by far best food, cocktails and service.
For the holidays there was a local fair going on just across from our suite, that included rides for kids, food and music. it was high decibels for sure but our young kids had such a blast to go there every night, that we couldn't complain. from Dec 29th-Jan 1 they also had a Rodeo show which was a thrill to watch.
to conclude i will highly recommend this place. Great suite,Great location, Great host- Thanks again Pierre.

I stayed at Pierres beautiful place with a friend for over a month while we were going to language school in Samara. There are two beautiful, spacious apartments and two condos that are all a really great value for money and Samara was the perfect place for us, all the infrastructure you like to have (nice beach, some surf, restaurants, stores, bank, some night life) but it is still not too touristy. The owner Pierre is also a really cool, knowledgeable guy who can give you some great advice about little trips around Samara. A great spot, I would definitively come back :) Pura vida!

My husband and I took a surf trip to Costa Rica and spent a few nights at Bambula. We had a great time and the owner Pierre made us feel at home and we met great people thanks to him. His staff is very friendly and the place is very clean and quiet. Many little cafe in Samara to enjoy good seafood on the beach which is beautiful and comes to live at night with music and people. We will be back.

We stayed at bambula Samara for a couple weeks, me and my girlfriend, Nikole, and we loved it!
It was fun to relax by the pool with the monkey running in the trees and the garden.
The room was really clean and comfortable.
We love the location, near by the beautiful beach of Samara where the waves were waiting for us everyday.
We can't wait to come back! Merci Pierre for making this trip such a memorable one!

I had never been to Costa Rica before and had friends in Nosara to go visit but just did not like the area so a friend suggested Samara, which was great. Nice little sea side town with everything you could need or want for a beach side getaway. Nice people, great food and plenty of night life, beautiful beach for swimming. I have to say that what really made it all come together as a great vacation was my good fortune to find the wonderful little lodge BAMBULA SAMARA with it's great host/owner Pierre Chasle. He has owned a little resort/getaways in Hawaii for years and really knows how to treat his guests with that personal touch. He made me feel like I was at home away from home. It can be hard to find your way around a new placed in a foreign country but with Pierre's help and generous time I really got to experience all that this part of Costa Rica has to offer and meet some of his interesting friends. In addition the accommodation were simple but tasteful and clean and very reasonable. I hope I get a chance to return and spend more time there again. I highly recommend you try the "BAMBULA" experience while your in that part of Costa Rica. Please tell Pierre Hola for me.

Nice place, a ten minute walk past shops to the beach. The pool was a must for cooling down in the hot afternoons. The place is very roomy with a full kitchen and almost every thing you could want for kitchen tools. Great shower and large seperate bath tub. It gets a bit noisy with the wildlife until you get used to it, although to be fair it had rained heavily the first night we arrived and Pierre said the frogs had been affected by this.
Watch your change even in the shops. No-one seems to like giving back the correct change to tourists! Pierre sent us to the El Dorado restaurant in neighboring El Carmine. Excellent seafood soup for about $8 Cdn! Wow! Also try the reserve hike with Alvaro and take the time to check out Camarrillo Beach one bay over.
