Large and beautiful rooms with TV, fridge, A/C, fan, balcony, large tiled bathroom. Nice to hang around the pool for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Two minute walk to less traveled part of Playa Samara, with terrific sunsets. But we preferred the seven minute walk to Playa Carrillo, which is one of the most beautiful beaches, if not the most beautiful, that I've ever seen (and I've been in lots of places). Very few people on the beach, mostly local folks, and unlike Jamaica or many of the Carribean islands, no one will bother you. And there's plenty of shade under the palm trees. Not a surfing beach or snorkeling, but wonderful for swimming.
One thing you should know is that the Hideaway is nowhere near most of the hotels in Playa Samara and it's a looong walk to town, probably 2 miles along the beach which is brutal in the midday sun. You should really have a car. But that distance is an advantage because of the proximity to Playa Carrillo, which is where you want to be during the day.
The service is beyond friendly. The most friendly hotel service I've ever experienced, period. The food is terrific and reasonably priced. We had the included breakfast, which was good. The guacamole and tuna sandwich (fresh fillet of tuna) was terrific for lunch. I recommend the sea bass with coconut sauce for dinner, though there are good alternatives that was my favorite. And Rosy's homemade brownies and homemade ice cream are a wonderful topper.
Thank you Doug and Rosy for a wonderful vacation. Thanks as well to Loida, Marcello, and Bryan. You are all wonderful hosts. I hope we can return someday. I've already recommended your hotel to several friends.
P.S. The howler monkeys did not come out much for us, though we did see them once and they do live in the trees behind the rooms. I think it's a seasonal thing if they're making their presence known. So you might have more luck with that.
