“A wonderful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Flying Crocodile for four nights in November... and everything about our stay was AWESOME! Petra and Andrea are wonderful hostesses and made us feel very welcome. The food in the restaurant is very good. :) The rooms are unique and comfortable, and very clean. They really take good care of the hotel and the grounds and it shows. Lots of beautiful wildlife around too, we saw 12 howler monkeys in a tree one afternoon and you can hear them all day. We ate a yummy breakfast each morning which was included in our stay. The pool area is great to hang around at, the beach is gorgeous, and there's a white sand beach a short hike away... very secluded... worth the walk. We didn't pay close enough attention on their website where it clearly tells you how to get there... our GPS took us through a pretty deep river, there are easier ways there, so just look on the website or ask Petra and Andrea. ;) hahaha!! We didn't know what we were doing, was our first time in Costa Rica, the GPS has a mind of it's own.

I loved this property. Myself, my husband and our kids (4 and 8) stayed there for 3 nights in June. The managers and staff were so nice and helpful. The property is beautiful: very intimate and slightly off the beaten path, but still easily accessible by car. My kids loved seeing wildlife on the property and the pool and slide. The meals were very good. One night we had the freshly prepared dinner and another night just ordered off the lunch menu which was very reasonable and tasty.

The nearby beach (Playa Buenavista) was absolutely gorgeous. It is about a 10 - 15 minute walk or 2 or 3 minute drive. Seriously amazing. There were always a few other people there, but it really felt like having your own private beach in a tropical paradise. We also drove to Samara, a 20 minute drive through through the "middle route" which when we were there was accessible (though you still had to drive through a shallow river, which was fun and the kids loved). Samara had shops and restaurants and a nice small beach town vibe.

I would stay there again in a second. It is truly an original place. Not to be missed if you are at least moderately adventurous.

If you prefer to stay in a large resorts with a lot of people, clubs and music, various activites, and choice of bars and restaurants, this place is definitely not for you. But if you are looking for a quite cozy shell to hide and relax, you will find it quite good. Just a dozen of rooms, almost no other guests, empty pool, and dining alone in the restaurant. The resort is surrounded by beautiful nature, with the wild beach in approx 1 km away. No dances, music, drunken laughs and no TV in the rooms - just pure silence and serenity.
However, some people still can find Flying Crocodile pretty boring, if they don't have a passion to FLY. But if you do, don't miss this oportunity! Even if you are thinking right now: "Come on, there is nothing new to see!" these rides or flying lessons will become your best memories of Costa Rica.

I had a wonderful stay here last year, and the new manager has made things even better!

Hot water in the showers all day long now! And great water pressure. The place is beautiful and so well kept.

This place just keeps getting better and better. The most accommodating staff I've ever seen.
Nothing but smiles and beautiful Costa Rica.

Room Tip: They all are unique and beautiful, pick the one you love most.

Beautiful, almost magical setting. My wife and I stayed at Flying Crocodile to take a test flight in an ultralight plane. The warm hospitality made us feel like family. No ID, only first name to check in. Very quiet and nestled in the mangroves with beautiful impeccably maintained grounds. Truly a feast for the eyes. The same troupe of howler monkeys that serenaded us at dinner woke us early in the morning for our flight. The rooms were clean and custom rock work was awesome. The food was fresh and tasty with excellent presentation and service. Complimentary breakfast began with make your own toast. When I rerurned to our table, the COOK had delivered an attractively prepared selection of fresh fruit, vegetables , cold cuts, tea and condiments. Then we were offered eggs prepared per our request and a pastry. We enjoyed swimming in the beautiful pool while enjoying the scenery. The flight went well and we look forward to returning. We rode our motorcycle and found the wet dirt roads challenging. Would recommend renting a 4x4. Definitely worth the trip.

Room Tip: Take the tour to preview the cabins

This isn't Miami beach. Don't bring an attitude or expect a major tourist resort. Its charming, clean and beautiful, run by German/English speaking folks always smiling and helpful. Yes, its out of the way. Do your research before booking. Don't expect to jump in a cab at will at the front door and go to "town".

Hotel Flying Crocodile was just perfect! First of all Petra and Andrea are wonderful hosts and were very kind and helpful to us during our stay. Our apartment was clean and spacious and was equipped with everything. Breakfast was included with the apartment we rented and it was delicious! The hotel is outside of the main town which means we were surrounded by wildlife, and it was awesome to hear the monkeys everyday. It was a very relaxing stay and a great place to call home for a few days :)
