Why I'm giving this hotel a 3 instead of a 2 when I say that I won't be back?
Location location location as they are right by the ocean.
Initial impression was awesome as the first thing that they give you when you arrive is fruit drinks with ice.
We hated having to wear bracelets our entire 3 day stay. All guests are required to wear plastic bracelets like you get when you're in the hospital.
The rooms (#510 and #503) at first looked awesome. Later things started to bother us such as the bedroom has no windows and so one has to have the lights on in order to see. Also no screens at all and so if one doesn't want bugs one has to keep the doors closed. Which means the air conditioner has to be on. The lights and air conditioner controls takes a lot of learning as it's not simply on/off.
Worst of all is that the electricity went out for about 8 hours.
No backup generators like most quality hotels would have!!!! TERRIBLE!
To top it off when the electricity went off we also had no water at all!
They didn't have a back up generator for the well! It took at least 6 hours before we finally got water.
The wait staff at the restaurant (nice location) were all very nice, the set ups were nice, however we all felt that the food was mediocre.
The pool was dirty all three days. Our rooms were close to the pool which normally would be great however all three days there were lots of what appeared to be local kids hanging out at the pool and it was very loud during the day.
Not many beach chairs provided and the only thing that the hotel offered was the rental of a kayak. One kayak and that was it for the entire hotel.
Need a Costa Rican stamp to mail a postcard? The front desk suggested that we go to the hotel next door to buy one (which we did and that's where we'll stay next time).
Need a float or anything at all for the beach? The front desk suggested that we go buy all at the Supermercado which is 2 km away. For $10. the hotel staff can take you there.
Maintenance issues were obvious such as the toilet seat was loose and sloppy. The plumbing when the hotel was built wasn't done right as sometimes our sink drain would make noises which is caused by improper venting which is potentially a heal;th hazard. The p-trap under the sink had leaked previously and rather than replacing it they threw on some goop which means it will leak again in the future.
