“Beautiful spot, beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

This place is right on the beach, and it's so nice to wake up and have a lovely breakfast at a table outside by the water. Staff were super nice and helpful, even calling the car rental company for us when they were giving us grief about returning our car early and arranging for a pick-up. The rooftop pool is luxurious, and the beach itself is peaceful and beautiful. Someone had warned us about the water in Playa Coco being bad, but Playa Hermosa's water was fine, since it's protected by the cove. The rooms are very spacious and very gorgeous. We stayed here at the end of our trip, since it was just 30 minutes to the Liberia airport, and it was a great way to end our trip.

We started off on a crummy timeshare in coco beach. After 1 night we found playa hermosa and La Gaviota Tropical and Roberto's Restaurant. We moved immediately and could not be more pleased with accomodations. The staff was the best. Luis, Robert, his lovely wife, Roy, carmen, Johnny are the friendliest ticos! They all really care about their guests. If you are looking for wonderful accomodations, a beautiful beach, great fresh food, personal service, and people who really care about your experience and are warm and friendly, this is the place for you. We travel quite frequently, and I must say we were very touched by these people and this place, we were teary eyed on the flight back home. Pura vida to Robert And his staff.

Room Tip: All rooms have variation of a beautiful view. The penthouse on the third floor has a spectacular vie...

We Impulsively decided to add a night in Playa Hermosa on the way back to our home in Nuevo Arenal. We had eaten at La Gaviota before (the food is great), but never stayed at the inn. It is a very special place. We stayed in the Pajaro suite. It was gorgeous -- high ceilings, beautiful, quality finishes, a wonderful ocean-view private balcony. Everything was top of the line, from the sheets, towels, and furnishings, to the attentive and friendly service. As everyone has noted, the rooftop pool is incredible. The included breakfast was far better than breakfasts we had been paying $25 or more for in Playa Flamingo, and when we checked out, Robert's wife gave us a gift bag for the road with fruit, crackers, water, and gum. I can't wait to go back.

We stayed for three nights the week after Labor Day 2013. It was absolutely amazing. Roberto, his wife, and everyone on the staff at La Gaviota Tropical were just so accommodating, going out of their way to make our couple's trip for my boyfriend and me comfortable and carefree. This place has much more of a B&B feel due to its personalized attention. I think they only let out 5-6 rooms, so they're very aware and up-to-date on the state of their guests. Thus, whether we slept in (hey! it's our vacation) or had an early morning due to a SCUBA excursion, our breakfast place settings were always waiting for us when we came downstairs into the cozy open-air restaurant area, with a perfect view of the water. When we realized it would get really pricey going from Guanacaste to Arenal back to San Jose (we had started off in Manuel Antonio for a friend's wedding earlier in the week, and we decided to make it an extended vacation of it; this was our second stop of our extension) we inquired how much it would cost for us to rent a car...they called the rental place, negotiated a rate that we were really happy with, and even scheduled for the rental guys to drive the car over...the entire time while we had enjoyed our delicious breakfast /coffee, then went for a stroll on the gorgeous strand. We had a beautiful room (the Playa room) that had the sounds of the waves from the beach. And it seemed like we had the whole hotel to ourselves, often enjoying the amazing rooftoop pool views without anyone else even walking up there. One night there were so many stars we just sat in silence looking up at them. If you dive, this place is PERFECT b/c most of the boats will just drop you off at the beach and you can just walk 20 steps into La Gaviota. I want to go back...

This place is fantastic! Beautiful large well appointed rooms all with a different theme. Super comfy bed, a balcony with view of the sea, but the best part is the infinity pool on the third floor roof top. The sunset from here with a cocktail in hand is pure luxury. Roberto and the team provide attentive customer service, they gave us some fruit and water as we left for our road trip, nice touch. If strong wifi in your room is important just check first, our room kept dropping out but the common areas were good speed.

We spent two nights here at the end of our trip and loved it! The rooms are spacious and well-appointed (albeit a slightly funky style). The staff and Roberto are fantastically nice and helpful. The food is quite good. And the view is beautiful, plus ready access to a beautiful beach. A few rough edges to clean up for the high season, but considering they've only been open a few months, they are well on their way to a fantastic new spot.

We had our wedding on the beach in front of La Gaviota, the staff could not have been more helpful and really made it a wonderful experience for us. We stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our room, very nicely decorated with modern amenities. After the ceremony we had a fun reception at Roberto's restaurant which is on the ground floor. After the reception we had our wedding dinner on the top floor next to their amazing roof top pool. Roberto set up a grill and cooked the fantastic meal right in front of us! You won't find a more welcoming and accommodating establishment in the area!
