“Condovac La Costa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

We had a great time in Costa Rica. Stayed in the 400 block of rooms. We were about 1.5 blocks from the beach and the walk to the restaurant was quite a climb. We didn't mind as we needed the exercise. They had shuttles if you didn't want the exercise. We ate at the restaurants on the beach which I thought the food was expensive for what we got. Too late we realized that we should eat at the local sodas in which the food was excellent and very inexpensive.
Took the Arinal, Nicaragua, watched the sea turtles lay eggs, and went to the cloud forest. Used Mardigi Tours and were very satisfied. They are more expensive but worth it as the tour vehicles were vans so we got to meet the other tourists. The guides were friendly and fluent in English.
Going to Nicaragua was the tour we enjoyed the most.

Spent 1 week at this property which was situated steps from the beach. The grounds were well-kept and the room always clean and tidy. Lots of wildlife on the grounds. They do make you do an inventory on arriving and it is checked on departure, so make sure what is not there when you check in is reported to the desk. I would shop at large grocery stores in Coco Beach for any food supplies because, as you might expect, the prices in stores on the property and close by are more expensive. Because of the hilly surroundings, they do provide a shuttle service for those who chose to use it which runs frequently so there is no worry if you miss one. The best thing about the resort was the fact that Mardigi Tours is located in their lobby. They offer shuttle service to and from the airport and their tours are worth every penny, chock full of information and interesting facts about the country and culture. Palo Verde, Nicaragua and Monteverde rain forest were amazing. They have the most well-organized tour staff. Would definitely recommend this location and Mardigi Tours.

Room Tip: Room in 500's, was a good uphill hike back to the front desk but shuttles are very frequent if y...

Great family hotel just steps from the beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean, islands, boats and dive sites. It is an excellent option for RCI and the rooms are designed to sleep 6. Two double beds in bedroom, 2 couch beds in the living room, kitchen area. They have added many 2nd floors to some of the original 104 units giving even a better ocean & sunset view. Best sunset view is at the restaurant, fabulous, Daily scuba diving, adventure tours, sailing.

Room Tip: Try to get an upstairs unit close to the beach in 500's 600' 700's. Tram stop right ther...

Had a wonderful two weeks in a two bedroom unit in the 400 block. Had a good view of the Ocean
Lots of wild life each day, beautiful tropical birds, monkeys, eat eaters, etc. Close to the beach, shuttle services were excellent and always on time. Beach clean and nice for a Morning walk.
Staff friendly and always helpful.
The best tour we recommend is the " Mardigi Tours" by Marvin and his wife. The Palo River Tour was a leisurely boat ride piloted by Marvin and with his, keen eye sight we saw interesting wild life at every turn. We saw monkeys, crocodiles, ,iguanas, and a variety of tropical birds.
The all day trip to Nicaragua was well worth it. Standing on the edge of a live volcano was

awesome and visiting another Country and a different culture was a new experience.enjoyed by all. Another tour was a trip to the Hot Springs, Here Marvin's wife took us on a hike thru the forest
and took her time to point out the different flowers, trees, and birds. Her pleasant smile made us feel special, If you want an adventure in visiting Costa Rica, go with Marvin and his team, they are the Best.
Our two. Weeks in Costa Rica was the best vacation we ever had, Thanks to all the Staff and The Mardigi Tours.

Room Tip: Choose the 400 Block, a corner room, for good views and you are a short distance to the Beach

My family and I stayed here for a week with our RCI membership. It was a nice, comfortable condo. The resort is set up well. Massages at the beach and canopy tour were grate. The staff was very friendly. We got lots of exercise walking up and down the hills. I can see where people who are less able bodied would have complaints about the resort set up, but they do offer shuttles also if you are not as up for walking as we were. The beach is beautiful. There isn't a great view from the rooms, but I never want to spend time in my room in Costa Rica anyway. Go down to the beach or up to the pool. There are great views at both locations.

The small town of Playa Hermosa is accessible by walking, and has some good resturants. There is also a grocery store in town, fairly close to the resort. Playa Cocles is a few minute drive and is a larger town. We went prior to the start of the high season, and really enjoyed the area. It was sunny and warm for most of our trip, and lots of animals in the area to see including birds, monkeys, iguanas, and other mammals. The pressure of sales people at the beach is a little annoying. I actually had one guy come up to me when I was playing in the waves to try and sell me on a snorkling tour, but you expect that in a tourist area.

We used our RCI points to visit for 5 days with our two children, ages 6 and 9. We had a two bedroom condo in the 600 units, which were very close to the beach. We would have had a lovely beach view, if not for the huge trees ;-)

As noted in other reviews, the two bedroom units are set up a little oddly. The children were downstairs in the twin beds with their own bath. My husband and I were upstairs in the master suite. To reach our level, you had to take stairs that were located outside the kitchen and open a sliding glass door to our bedroom. I was a little worried about the children needing us in the night, but it was fine.

These units were well-stocked in the kitchen but make a couple of notes: no oven, no washer/dryer, no DVD player upstairs in the master bedroom (only downstairs in the twin bedroom). They did get some English-language TV channels (CNN and the big 4). Free wi-fi worked great the entire time, once we asked for the password. We purchased most of our food from the grocery store in Playa Hermosa and it was about the same pricing as we have seen all over Costa Rica.

We LOVED the beach, and the fact that they had showers to use as you are leaving. This was the off season so it was never very crowded. We also loved the pool area. Note that most guests are here for a full week running Friday-Friday. They have a special BBQ and show on Thursday nights. It was a Las Vegas style show and they did special things for the kids. We did not pay for the BBQ because it started too late for our kids (most of the buffets did not start until 7pm). We all really enjoyed the show. They had activities almost every day, but we did not participate. The games that the DJ played in the pool area were all in Spanish, and they did give out cool prizes that included bottles of wine.

We ate at the restaurant a few times and the pizza was great! I had a small virgin pina colada during the show and was shocked to discover it was $6.

It was set up very well for children, with a playground, and 3 separate pools, including a small zero-entry area with one of the mushroom toys where water sprays over the top. The ice cream station was never opened while we were there, but the ice cream bars you could buy in the resort's mini-mart was not too expensive.

My wife and I stayed with another couple at this property and we had a wonderful time. We stayed at the 500 block so we had a very short walk to the beach and had to take the shuttle up to the top to go to the restaurant or the pool. The view from our villa was pretty much non-existent. I don't really think there was much of a view from any of the one bedroom villas but i don't know for sure. As for the villa, they were stocked pretty well and my friend prepared a few meals for us and appeared to have most of what he needed. The rooms are very nice inside and everything was super clean. Every staff member we met was helpful and alot of them spoke english and if they didnt they would find someone who did. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. As many have noted the infinity pool was absolutely great and the cold jacuzzi was a bit of a let down. For the most part we ate dinners at local restaurants like Gingers and a couple of beach restaurants. Gingers was excellent and we actually ate there twice. Towards the end of our trip my wife and I decided to try the Condovac restaurant and we both thought it was rather good, which was a pleasant surprise. For tours we used Mardigi tours and they were absolutely amazing! I can not say enough about them. Use them for all your tour needs. This was a wonderful hotel to stay at and a beautiful region to visit. Dont hesitate to book a trip Condovac.
