Our group of 10 had 3 - one bedroom units reserved through RCI. After reading previous reviews we were a little concerned. Luckily we were pleasently surprised. Our air conditioners worked great for keeping the bedroom comfortable in 95 degree temps. The shower had good pressure and hot water for all our showers.
Most mornings we sat on our porch and watched the wildlife. Lots of birds, iguanas, howler monkeys and the ever curious coatis.
The staff was polite and efficient. Our toilet was broken when we arrived. One call and a repairman arrived in ten minute and resolved the problem.
The pools were lovely, with a view of the ocean below. We ate several meals at the hotel, one night they cooked our freshly caught tuna. We ate dinner twice at Playa del Coco at Papagayo Seafood and Steakhouse. For the younger crowd there is an active night life.
Just down the beach from Playa del Coco is Playa Ocotel. It is a gorgeous black sand beach. Besides the silky sand, snorkeling by the rocky outcroppings and checking out the tide pools were a pleasant afternoons activitiy.
We took two tours through Swiss Travel. We had a wonderful guide and saw beautiful scenery and wildlife along the Tempisque River. We also toured Arenal Volcano, EcoLodge rainforest and Baldi Hot Springs. It was a great time. We can hardly wait to return.

Playa Hermosa was fantastic. The hotel, although not the lap of luxury was a good deal. The service was excellent and the atmosphere resort style without being tacky. Very family friendly.

I would definitely go back.

The setting is unbelieveable. You are on the side of a mountain with 45 degree inclines. There are small vehicles that will transport you every 5 minutes. The staff is pleasant and will assist you at their own pace. Sometimes language and shortage of food and service materials are a problem. Menu was limited and boring. However their native fish dishes and some chicken but not beef dishes were good. They could not come up with a wash cloth more than once in a 6 day stay. Their all inclusive is two part . Food with 1 alcoholic beverage per meal. The other includes alcohol but is limited on the hard type.
The native beer Imperial is good. OBTW no matter what plan inclusive Lobster, Shrimp, and Beef is $10 extra. Meals and no snacks in between are set up in 3 hour shifts. No comparison to the all inclusives of Cancun.THERE IS NO NIGHTLIFE ON PREMISES. Villa De Sol right behind this place is a better resort but under construction in sections. Better bang for the dollar and a great snack/ bar at the pool. Worthwhile to take a time share presentation to get a day at their place. Condo Vac Staff work very hard and remember to tip them as average income is $300 month. As you leave the country there is a $26 per person departure tax. Cash & Visa only payment method. Volcano trip is long and not for the faint of heart. The roads are steep curvy to say the least. Tours go out 13- 14 hour day when combined with rain forest & hot springs.

October is the rainy month, so we did not expect to have good weather but I needed the R&R, so it did not matter, I brought many books to read. It rained two 1/2 days, and the weather cleared up ( it was a storm that caused the heavy rain). The weather was gorgeous after that.
The resort is average, but the staff is exceptional. The on-site restaurant is average, the menu is limited, the price is more expensive than other places, but the view is beautiful.
Because October is low season, some of the tours did not exist . I went on the tour to Nicaragua, and that was a wonderful trip, and well worth the money. I also thought the price for services for the spa were excellent, I had the volcanic wrap+ massage.
Use you credit card as much as you can. I found that I got a better exchange rate from the credit card company, than if I had paid cash in $US.

Having read previous reviews we were very concerned that we had used our RCI points to book Condovac la Costa for out two week honeymoon.
But when we arrived there we were meet by extremely happy and helpful staff.
The villas were cleaned daily including cleaning bathroom, clean towels, bed making and washing the floors.
They even made a decoration on the spare bed ! towels rolled into a heart with swans made from flannels and fresh flowers, absolutely beautiful.!
All the staff were lovely, but our favourite had to be Alexis the barman, he made outstanding cocktails, laughed all the time and was a pleasure to be around.
We booked a boat trip with Charlies Adventures and had the best day, again all the crew were attentive, informative, polite and happy. We had a BBQ on a private beach, snorkeled and saw dolphins.when we went into the Mangroves our guides knowledge was incredible, he was local with great pride of his homeland.
The swimming pools were great and cleaned daily, everyone at the resort spoke English.
Ok the beach was not white sand, but its a volcanic region so obviously the sand, as in the Canary Islands, will be dark!
We did visit Gingers restaurant as advised and had a nice meal.
Again despite previous comments the food at the Condovac restaurant was good value and the Pizzas were huge! This is a family resort, and everyone there was friendly, polite, extremely well mannered. We have made lots of new friends in America and Costa Rica. We will go back again! PURA VIDA !!!!!!!!
