We stayed at Villa Ferlito for just over 3 months and had a blast! The apartment was the perfect size for us to relax as a couple, and also to accommodate a friend or family member or two when they came to visit. The apartment was simple and nicely laid out, such a break from our hectic, crowded lives back in NY.
Since we were there for a while, we got to know quite a few of the other guests, and had a great time with them! A young Spanish family got us all together for Christmas Eve and we had the best BBQ of our lives along with Flamenco and Salsa dancing and to end the night everyone got in the pool under the twinkling stars. (Some pushed in by force in their clothing, don't tell management). So awesome!
Now, let me say, there are some people that fit better into the Costa Rican lifestyle than others. First of all, everything is more laid back. You will not get through a grocery line quickly, ever. Times for buses are really only suggestions. And if you go with a group to a restaurant, you probably will not all get your meals at the same time.
But, if you give it time and let it work its magic on you, you will be amazed by how relaxing it can b e! After being home for just two weeks, we could not believe how stressed out we were just being in the US! So while you're there, don't take it for granted, enjoy the simplicity of life!
Also, a little FYI, Villa Ferlito is an amazing value for the area. Costa Rica is not cheap. Nearby resorts were charging almost $300 per person per night during the time we were there. So while the beaches were a little further to walk to from Villa Ferlito, it was worth the distance!
Highlights for us were: Playa Conchal (Stunning! Plus, really fun to body surf in the waves when the tide is right) Meditating on the little cove of Playa Brasilito closest to Villa Ferlito. Sunset dinner on the beach (toes in the sand!) at Coco Loco in Playa Flamingo. Sunset mojitos at the infinity pool in Mar Vista. The monkey cage at Congo Trail. The most amazing Catamaran tour ever possible to even dream of. The insane amount of wildlife everywhere - howler monkeys by the pool, crabs on the rocky parts of the volcanic beaches and a billion hermit crabs on the secluded Playa Amor. Getting sick of Costa Rican food and being able to cook whatever I like in our own kitchen at Villa Ferlito. Crazy nights walking along the beach to Don Brasilitos (a long walk, bring refreshments ;) ) and feeling completely safe. Crazy days walking to Conchal (about a 30 minute walk, lots of refreshments needed). Knowing the weather every day - hot and sunny. Never ever ever even once needing a jacket!!!!
Honestly, this is only the beginning of the amazing time we had while at Villa Ferlito. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
