“Great family resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

We stayed here February 2013 for one week all inclusive. My husband and I and 3 kids- 13, 10 & 5. Very nice resort. Clean rooms, pool area and restaurant. Super friendly staff especially to our kids. Fantastic food and something new every day. Not a party place which was exactly what we wanted to avoid. Small resort so we felt like we knew a lot of the other guests. Various ages of people. Beautiful beach just steps away. Located in a nice area - lots to see when we went for evening walks. We would definately return.

Room Tip: We booked the Suite so we had extra room being there was 5 of us. It had a little kitchenette in it...

I am sincerely considering having my wedding at the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. How far away is it from downtown Tamarindo or an area with a more active night life? I was in Tamarindo two weeks ago and loved it. I have heard great things about the resort, but I do want the balance of an awesome resort with the option to go out and about and experience other night life.

The Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa is 20 to 30 minutes by car from Playa Tamarindo. A cab ride from the resort to Tamarindo costs $25.00; however, if there was a large group going back and forth, a shuttle van could be contracted at a lesser per person cost. Although relatively close in distance, Playa Tamarindo and Playa Flamingo simply have different vibes. Tamarindo is more of a surf & party destination, Flamingo is a little quieter and more upscale. There is nightlife all around in the Flamingo/Potrero/Brasilito area, but it is not a lot of bars clustered together as in Tamarindo. Also, in Tamarindo the beach is more crowded so you wouldn't have it exclusively all to yourselves and your wedding group as you might have at the Flamingo Beach Resort. Our resort is lovely and 99.9% of the brides and grooms and their family and friends that we've hosted have had great experiences with us. We'd love to have you join that happy group, but it's truly your own decision. We wish the best of luck whatever you decide!

Resort was lovely....staff so accommodating...food plentiful and tasty. Drinks very good! The Spa was wonderful; 1st class!! We had the 'all exclusive' and it was definitely worth it. So relaxing! My son's wedding was held here and it could not have been any better...
The venue on the beach, flowers, food, music was awesome!
The only thing I wish was different is the shower and that might just be something that can't be fixed... The water pressure was not strong.
I would definitely recommend this resort and I would come back again for a relaxing stay

We truly appreciate your wonderful comments and are so glad that your Son's wedding was what everything you had hoped for. As I've said previously in this forum, weddings are our absolute favorite thing and we feel so privileged to have become a part of your family's memories! We definitely hope you come back and see us, and promise to keep working on that vexing water pressure issue. We are planning a major bathroom renovation for later this year which will address this problem as well.

If you're under 60 and you still like to have fun at night, I would avoid this one. But if all you're looking for is a comfortable resort on a beautiful beach with NO night life or entertainment what so ever, you would be pleased. I'll give the resort credit for it's nice, modern rooms, nice pool, friendly staff, and location nestled between the ocean and against a little mountain. It's a beautiful setting and one of the best beaches, but that wasn't enough for me when you find out you're stuck at the resort and have to pay an arm and a leg to taxi's to get out. If you're going to this resort and area, don't expect to save any money on food either as the prices for dinner start at $20 without a drink.
So if you're looking for your grandma's dream resort complete with a tiny casino and bedtime at 9:30, this is your place!

We understand your comments and we're sad that you didn't find a better fit for your vacation style than our little family resort. It's true, we are not party central, but nor do we pretend to be. We like to think we strike a happy medium between spring-break-style partying and "grandma's dream resort" so I have to admit, your comments did sting a bit. We do get lots of singles and young, hip families that manage to have a very good time with us! And the funny thing is when we do have our karaoke nights or evenings of live entertainment and dancing --which we do regularly -- there are always a few guests who complain that they couldn't get to sleep at 10 pm because of the music! So while it's quite hard to please everyone, but we always appreciate your comments and are glad you enjoyed our beautiful setting, nice pool and friendly staff!

After one week of adventures in the jungle, it was awesome to have R & R at this hotel. It was very quiet, with the exception of the wedding on the one weekend. The beach was wonderful and the waves were great for boogie boarding! The hotel did not give us the room with a king bed which we booked with Expedia and paid more for the pool view with King bed, but other than that, the food was great as with the all inclusive, you could still order off the menu every meal if you wanted! Good Value!

Room Tip: we had the third floor and would recommend this for the view! Defintely want a "pool view"...

We are sorry you didn't get the King Bed that you booked, but let me use this opportunity to do a little consumer education: We don't expect our guests to understand hotel property management systems, but truthfully speaking, specific room types can never be truly guaranteed by third-party agencies like Expedia because they do not have real-time access to our inventory, the way our own booking engine on our website, or our 1-877-856-5519 reservations number does. Having said that, we ABSOLUTELY try to make every guest happy by giving them the type of room they want, it just isn't always possible when we have a full or almost full house during high season. We are very happy that you still felt you got good value and you enjoyed your R&R at our resort. Thanks also for your very positive comments about our food. We appreciate your feedback.

Welcome to Flamingo Beach Resort, and that is how they make you feel. Service unlike the hotels in the U.S.- bell cap, a term probably unfamiliar to some, they actually load your luggage on a cart and take it to your room for you and point out all the features of your room. The accommodations are clean and comfortable with daily maid service and functioning air conditioning. Class"A" service in the restaurant from breakfast on, concierge full service for all your needs and a lounge for imbibers. There is also a poolside swim up bar that can be accessed from dry land. The pool itself has raised shallow areas for lounge chairs and small children not to mention a kiddie pool with cover for the small ones. The beach is literally across the street from the resort property replete with pelicans diving and cruising. A short walk from the resort there is shopping, dining and a small grocery. All transportation requirements can be arranged at the front desk. Arrangements for everything from scuba diving to crocodiles are available. A full service spa on the upper floor of the reception area shares the floor with a workout- weight room and a combination mini mart and rec room. There are gambling machines available also on the upper floor. We went on the combination coffee-crocodile tour that included lunch, an entertaining and informative day. Transportation to and from the airport was on time and comfortable. Scuba diving is a short ride away with transportation provided by the dive operator. The front desk representatives are helpful and pleasant to deal with. Definitely would make a return visit.

We were originally going to another resort. However after reading mostly very positive reviews,we switched to the Flamingo. We are quite excited to be going there, but have concerns around the way our emails have been handled.
Our supplier does not sell the all inclusive package. We were able to buy a package that included breakfast. Through these reviews,we've learned that there is an all inclusive option. We emailed the resort and were told that the all inclusive is a certain price. We emailed back and explained for the second time that we had already paid for breakfast and asked if a change in the daily price could be made, as we are already paying for breakfast and would be double paying at the price they quoted. Again, they responded with no flexibility around this.
I'm wondering if we perhaps did not make a good decision in choosing this resort.
We will see if if the response will be different in person. If not,we can certainly eat out for lunch and dinner. We can also purchase our beverages elsewhere as well.
I will write a proper review upon my return.

We usually prefer that our guests at least STAY with us before writing a review online, as doing it this way could be perceived as a "coercion tactic," a way to try to get something for nothing by threatening to write a bad review. Unfortunately, that is what gives these self-review sites a bad name among hoteliers. Imagine having to deal with guests who say "give me a free (whatever) or I will post a bad review." Believe us, it happens all the time nowadays and it is quite unfair. Having said that, from our review of your correspondence, what we tried to explain was that there was a difference between the retail rate of our All-Inclusive (which you were trying to book) and the wholesale rate that you paid through a third-party agency for your breakfast package, so it was basically a wash. Perhaps the language barrier was a little too much for this explanation via email. You are now on property and hopefully are having a wonderful time so that you will counter this bad "Pre-Review" with some positive comments after your stay.
