We just returned from our first trip to Costa Rica. One of the highlights of the week was a fishing excursion with Captain Tom Haydu of Las Brisas Fishing Charters. Tom is an American expat who has been living in Costa Rica for many years, and he loves to share his passion for Costa Rica with his clients. Actually, we never felt like clients; we felt like old friends and were treated like them. We spent a day on the water, reeling in 6 bonito pretty quickly. Toward the end of the day, we brought in a Jack Cravelle who put up a good fight! We saw sea turtles, dolphins and rays leaping out of the water. Tom provided lots of beverages, snacks and sandwiches for lunch. He even went out of his way to buy 3 kinds of salami for our 13-year old to make her OWN sandwich!! Tom's first mate, Manuel, is quiet but warm and kind, and he added to the fun every step of the way. When we arrived back on land, a bit sunburned, Tom insisted that we stop by his office to get some aloe vera, even putting some "to go" in a ziploc bag. Everything about the day was wonderful, and we would recommend Captain Tom to anyone!
