“The BEST value in Playas Del Coco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2011

My wife and I stayed here for 6 days in Feb. 2011 during our 2nd visit to Costa Rica. Playas Del Coco is a busy little beach town that is growing quickly and there are many different types of accomidations. Casa Lora Apartments is 4 or 5 seperate small buildings, each one has a cute little apartment in it, and they all face a nice swimming pool, with lots of flowers, palm trees, and plants. The property is owned by a German couple, Peter and Sabina, who live at the rear of the property in their own seperate casa. Here is an HONEST review from a few Canadian newly weds who love to travel:

Location: About 2km from the beach on a dirt road off the main street (In Costa Rica, 90% of the roads are dirt). The property itself is located in a "typical" Costa Rican neighbourhood- If its your first time to Costa Rica, you'll quickly realize that dogs, cats, roosters, and small children roaming the streets is "typical" so drive slowly! You don't NEED a car here, you can easily walk to the beach down the main boluavard in about 15-20 minutes, and about 10 minute walk away are grocery stores, banks, restuarants, shops, and anything else you could expect to find in a tourist town. We had a car so we just drove every where, but walking or bicycle would be a good way to get around. Taxi's are cheap and easy to find as well. The neighbourhood is very safe, although most properties look like maximum security prisions because of the steel bars and barbed wire fences, but once again this is typical throughout Costa Rica and is not a reflection of a "good" or "bad" area. Casa Lora is surrounded by a wall and fence, but once you get inside it's like stepping into a tropical paradise!! The owners have done an amazing job with the landscaping, its so nice, and you can tell they work hard on it all!!

The Room:
Our casa was a two storey building with a double bed and bunk beds on the main floor, a bathroom with shower, and then a full-kitchen, dining area, futon, tv, and AMAZING balcony with hammock on the second floor. It was a huge place for the two of us! There was A/C (we never used it), tv with many channels, and an internet connection. The room was very clean overall, and the kitchen had all the usual stuff you would expect, as well as a microwave and a neat little tool for making traditional costa rican coffee! The bed was a little soft but comfortable, and the ceiling fan was nice to keep a breeze going so you can leave the a/c off and listen to the birds in the morning.

The have a nice pool that is super clean and refreshing after a day at the beach! Peter and Sabina cleaned it twice a day, everyday, and they had a helper guy that was always trimming trees and sweeping the walkways. There are some lounge chairs to lie out and tan, a BBQ for cooking, and an area for washing and drying your clothes if you need to. There is also a parking space for each casa within the compound area.

The owners Peter and Sabina are from Germany and speak German, English, Spanish, and some French. They live on the property in their private casa, and are always very friendly and happy to help you find attractions, or just chat about Costa Rica or whatever. We talked with them quite about over the 6 days, and when we saw them in town, we went to dinner together!! Very nice people!! They have been in Costa Rica for over 15 years and they are dedicated and hard working. The other guests where also super nice and everyone would chat around the pool after dinner.

Overall if you want to experience ``the real`` Costa Rica this place is the way to go! Its clean, quiet, relaxing, and affordable. Close to everything you need, but far enough from the noise, traffic, and tourist stuff, so you can enjoy the local neighbourhood!
Hope you enjoy your stay!!

Casa Lora.
Doing our 8 weeks stay / traveling in Costa Rica, we stayed 4 weeks in Casa Lora.
Casa Lora is such a lovely OASIS located in a local neighborhood. With a good safe around .The garden is so exotic and green and the swimming pool must be the most clean in Costa Rica.
The apartments are well build in good solid material, and it is easy to feel at home here.
Casa Lora is total Costa Rica, but with 5 star european standard and services. You might see many nice Hotels and Guesthouses – from the outside, but when it comes to god service, you will soon find the big difference. Here ALL works, and if not it will be fixed in a minute. Things like internet, TV, ac, fridge etc. – just have to work, and life is too short to get a hundred bad excuses, why things doesn’t work.
So if you want a good home where all is working well, then book accommodations in Casa Lora, here you feel good and safe.

We stayed for 5 nights in Casa Lora after three weeks of traveling (mostly very rough roads) around Costa Rica by SUV.

We wanted to relax, do some cooking, hang around the pool, enjoy amenities like TV and Internet.
Casa Lora was the perfect place for us.

We had rented one of the two-storied "cabinas" with ample space for the two of us.
The vegetation is beautiful, lush and well kept inside this little resort, the guests were a nice international mix of holidaying Ticos (Costa Ricans) and European tourists at that time.

The the pool was always super clean, the apartment in very good condition
Aircon is available, cable TV and Internet as well, the whole layout of the house seems well-thought-out. Lamps and fans (we are not fond of aircon) everywhere, all windows screened although there were no mosquitos when we visited.
The kitchen is well appointed.
The balcony is roomy and being on the first floor affords some privacy and has a nice "green" view.

Shops are more or less close by (15 min by foot). The neighbourhood is Costa Rican.

This place is taken care of with lots of enthusiasm and energy by a German multilingual couple to make you really feel at home.
And so we did.... Would always come back...
