“Fantastic Family Vacation”

Paradisus Playa Conchal

We just returned from a week at the Paradisus Playa Conchal and wanted to share some of the highlights:

- the resort is terrific; although it was booked to capacity it is very well run and the layout was such that there did not seem to be many people there. It is truly a 5-star resort but is laid-back enough that you don't need to worry about dress codes, etc.
- the beach is beautiful and not at all crowded. It is made up of crushed shells and at times has some great waves to play in!
- the facilities at the hotel are excellent. We have 2 boys ages 5 and 7 yrs and there was plenty for us to do together. Make sure to rent a golf cart and go along the back 9 holes at about 5 pm to see incredible monkeys, birds and other animals if you are lucky;
- the food was generally very good, especially the Mitra buffet and Spices, the Asian restaurant. We are particular about food and the resort exceeded our expectations.
- the roads are horrible (be sure to bring Gravol, especially for the kids!) but that's part of the adventure. We did the Mega Combo Tour at the Rincon de la Vieja Park that included a canopy tour, horseback riding, water slide, mud baths and hot springs, and a wonderful Costa Rican lunch at the Buena Vista Lodge- highly recommended even with 2 little boys!
- the Costa Rican people are the nicest we've met anywhere and are one of the main reasons to visit Costa Rica
- the weather during the week we were there was hot (30 degrees C. or so) and sunny every day- bring lots of sunscreen!
- bugs were not generally a problem although you might want to consider bug spray if you are doing a canopy tour or other type of trip into the forests or river areas.
-although there is a Kids Club our boys didn't use it much as there were so many other things to do as a family that they preferred to be with us. They did however go kayaking one day with the staff and that was a big hit, especially when the kayak purposely tipped over!

We would definitely go back to the Paradisus again!

“Great place”

Paradisus Playa Conchal

Spent a few days of President's Day week at Playa Conchal with my wife and two teens. High 90, low 70, dry heat with not a cloud in the sky. Spectacular white sand beach with clear blue water in the low 80's. The resort is gorgeous, well-maintained and extremely well run even though it was packed that weekend. The rooms are elegant, and spacious with two double beds. A few minor bathroom problems were dealt with quickly. The restaurants are hard to book and you have to line up at 8am until they take your name at 9 but it was worth it. The food was overall 5 star. The sunset cruise is nice. The golf course is nice but green fees, bag rental and golf gloves for two players was $450. They only have 3 computers with internet access for the entire resort but if you bring a laptop you can sit in front of the gym and catch a WiFi signal. Visit Parque Rincon de la Vieja two hours away. Yes, the roads in CR are a disaster but it's worth a trip. The Liberia airport is close but really third world with two hour waits in line. Overall I'd come back to this resort in a NY minute

Paradisus Playa Conchal

Some thoughts after a fantastic week at the paradisus. Pay your exit tax at the TAM shop or at the tour desk below the main lobby - cash or Visa. Its a couple of dollars more than at the airport but after I saw the line up to pay at the airport I was glad I had prepaid.
We took the mega combo tour - awesome. We decided because the roads were so bad, that one journey away from the hotel would be enough. The tour has a canopy tour/zip lines, an amazing water slide (do it), a horse back ride (painful) or tractor ride (comfortable) and a steam room/mud bath/hot tub to finish. Its a long day but worth it.
We also rented quads for a 3 hour trip from Santana tours for $55- they can arrange that at the Sunquest desk below the lobby. We were picked up and given a guided tour by Marco, a local, knowledgeable guide who took us to some great beaches. It was $5 more than the quads on the beach but we saw 15 people go off for less than 2 hours, getting back at dusk. Ours was way better value for money-almost 3 hours and just the 3 of us.

Walk the perimeter road of the golf course at dusk or dawn-you'll see lots of monkeys and you'll work up an appetite for yet another awesome meal. A well-maintained hotel with some of the friendliest staff I've come across. There is some on-going construction on the east side that starts early and finishes late. Its well hidden and not a big problem, unless you have a room in that area.
Our only complaint was the maid service - despite repeated requests we were always short of towels-mostly 2 bath towels for the 3 of us and some days no hand towels. But a phone call to housekeeping always resolved the problem promptly.

Just returned from beautiful Playa Conchal resort
was absolutely great BUT one major point the reviews do NOT tell you are how BAD the roads are to the resort. After traveling the Panamian Highway from
the airport in Liberia you must travel on a dirt/pot holed road for a good distance...at points the ditches on each side of the road are a BETTER drive than the main road...since we had a 4 wheel drive/surfboards we were better prepared than most...
Buses, trucks, and vans kick up the dust and at points
it is impossible to see. Don't even attempt the drive at night not a light for miles/kilometers.
This time of year is the dry season days average 85-95 degrees and this week NOT a cloud in the sky!
The resort is beautiful and most accomodating....
if you are considering spending the extra for Royal Service it is a waste....even the Royal Service at the pool is in a back/secluded area ...you miss all the real action at the resort. The golf course is beautifully manicured and well taken care of
unfortunately many of the holes are a good distance from the water so the views are limited.
The food at the resort is very good to excellent the restaurant Spices and the Italian restaurant were our
favorites...but most nights it is difficult to get a
reservation...people tend to eat late so early reservations are a bit easier....You MUST have a reservation and each night we watched many people
get turned away....so the other options are the
buffets...which are good as well. On the whole I
highly reccomend this resort...they really give you
service and quality with a smile...I actually heard people recommending this resort over 4 Seasons....
its worth the risk... we found most of the guests well
traveled and very satisfied...I will definitely return
after they improve the roads...(they promise the gov't will be working on them real soon!)
By the way the Costa Rican people are lovely and if you are a surfer they are not territorial...
A wonderful place for a surf vacation....

I will make this short and to the point. We stayed at this resort from February 8 to the 12th along with a group of business associates (about 35 people). The staff of the resort and the people of Costa Rica are just great. The food at the buffet and the individual restaurants was above average. The drinks were also great and you can get what you ask for. The rooms were exceptionally clean and the grounds well maintained. We have traveled many places in the world. I will definately be back here with the rest of my family. You can feel the friendliness of the people and it is genuine. Hope it does not get spoiled. Go and enjoy it!
