“Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

This was the second Westin I've stayed at. The first hotel experience wasn't so great but I was willing to give them another chance and I'm so glad I did!

The hotel itself is beautiful. The grounds are well kept and the pool area was great and had several activities such as pool volleyball, basketball, water aerobics, etc. We booked a "regular" room and couldn't believe the size of it. The bathroom was nice and everything felt super clean! The bed was very comfy with soft linens. The only issue I had was a hot water problem which they solved.

The Staff: I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful everyone was!! You could tell that every single person that worked there really enjoyed their job and loved where they worked. They were willing to bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. And they always smiled!! I've stayed at a lot of "high end" hotels and never received this kind of service before.

The Food: I was a bit nervous about the food as I had never stayed at an all-inclusive and I'm a bit of a foodie. It was shockingly tasty! The only place I wasn't crazy about (and it was still decent) was the first night we arrived we didn't have reservations, which you need, and had to do the dinner buffet. The breakfast buffet was much better. The other restaurants were awesome with a wide variety of selections.

The hotel (and everything for that fact) is a drive to get to. An hour from the airport. We rented a car which we really enjoyed as we drove up and down the coast exploring other towns. There's not a lot to do at night at the hotel as far night life.

We booked an excursion through the hotel and it was a lot of fun. We floated down the river in a raft looking at the nature which we saw monkeys, crocs, birds and iguana. The only disappointment was there weren't enough people to another tour we wanted to do.

Overall, it was an awesome vacation. We stayed 9 days and never felt bored once! We would definately go back.

“Relaxing Get Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We enjoyed a relaxing four days at this all inclusive resort. There was plenty to do, drink, and eat. The food was average and the service was adequate and very friendly. We had little need to wander outside of the resort but the afternoon trips to the neighboring beach areas were interesting and worth doing. We enjoyed the nightly live show and the varied tropical drinks as well.

“Amazing Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

My wife and I were here on our Honeymoon from October 29, 2012 to November 8, 2012 and had an incredible experience. We've stayed at several all-inclusive resorts throughout Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republican, Greece, and Spain. This resort was by far the best all-inclusive we have ever stayed at. The food was phenomenal. My favorite restaurants were the French and Mediterranean, while my wife preferred the Thai and the Italian. It was also nice trying some of the local cuisine for lunch. I am still craving the Costa Rican Sea Bass dish. The employees of the resort are incredible. Katherine and Silva (two of the lovely ladies that seat the guests at the restaurants) are super nice, very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure you're satisfied. Whatever they're being paid, its not enough!
The rooms are huge and very comfortable, cleaned regularly and the in-suite bar is stocked daily. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed all the wildlife on the grounds. The shows at night were also very enjoyable, though there was not much of a night life afterwards. This is definitely not the place where you're going to find a group of rowdy college kids.
The beach is also great, beautiful sand and amazing views of the surrounding area. If you're looking to book trips while on your vacation then look no further than Erick Garcia, Alex the Rabbit and John Rodriguez. They are all really friendly and nice. You will find them right outside the gate. They are always there and have been there longer than the trees (as per Alex the Rabbit). We booked a catamaran tour and ATV zip lining with them. Both trips were incredible and I highly recommend doing both. Our favorite was the ATV zip lining. It was just my wife and I with the tour guide so we could go at our own pace making the experience a lot more personable. Alex, Erick, and John will go the extra mile to make sure you're satisfied and they won't pressure you into booking anything. You can book through them at your own pace and on your own schedule. They provide a variety of tours and their prices are lower than the hotels. There is also a degree of satisfaction knowing that you're supporting the locals. Go see them!! The other vendors on the beach are also very nice and friendly as well.
We booked one trip though the hotel to the Arenal Volcano, which turned out to be a very long bus ride. We enjoyed the hot springs, boat ride across lake arenal, and the dinner overlooking the Volcano. We were a bit disappointed with the rainforest as we were hoping to see more wildlife (we only saw ants, a small frog and a toucan).
Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the resort, the food, the accommodations, the excursions, and most importantly the service. You get excellent value for the price. You know it's a great place to go when you're vacationing with pro athletes and TV personalities like Curtis Granderson and Mike Holmes (yes, they really were there!). The only way our trip could have been better is if the sun shined until 8 or 9pm every night! We both highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to travel to Costa Rica. Make sure you say hi to Alex, Erick, and John! Pura Vida!

“Honeymoon Finale”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This was our final stop on our honeymoon. I had friends who highly recommended it and I can see why. It was fun, clean and a lot to do. The drinks were good, service was friendly, and the food was okay. Food and reservations are the reasons it is not getting five stars. There was plenty of it, however it was just okay. I compared it to another all Inclusive in DR and a recent Princess cruise. The other places were far superior. The Latin and Mediterranean restaurants were the best we tried. Also the reservations for dinner were a bit ridiculous. You had to secure a spot two days in advance in order for it not to be "full," however, once at restaurant there was always plenty of empty tables. Makes no sense to me.
Water aerobics was a blast, gym had everything one could want and was very clean, drinks were abundant and strong, grounds were impeccable.
Shuttle service was hit or miss. We would often walk to our destination before spotting a ride. Also, they were a no show on last day when I called for help with bags.

Overall, great spot and we would go again.

P.s. did a mtn/beach ATV with blue shirt guys outside gate on beach and it was PHENOMENAL. Tons of fun and only $65 for 2 hours per machine.

“Honeymoon Destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

My wife and I stayed at the Westin Oct. 21st - Oct. 26th for our Honeymoon. Its a beautiful resort that is well maintained and the staff is the friendliest I have ever encountered. Its an all inclusive resort so all food and drinks are included in the price of the room per day. They have lots of options for meals with different restaurants opened each night. We came during the 'off season' or rainy season in Costa Rica but it never rained a full day we were there. We had sunshine for two days. Some rain on Wednesday and some on Thursday but overall sunshine and beautiful weather. Because it was the off season not all of the Restaurants were open every day but they rotate them each evening to give a lot of variety.

They have lots of activities that you can sign up for through the resort with a company called Swiss Travel. They have ATV tours, volcano tours, ziplining tours, jet skiing tours, lots of options. Be careful booking tours with people other than resort officials because often times they don't have permits, insurance, and aren't meeting government safety regulations on equipment.

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Beach Club. If you don't have kids this is the best place to be. The pool is beautiful they have lots of chairs, a swim up bar, and people walking around constantly bringing you drinks or food if you wish it. Its a great 'kids free area'.

The staff at the Westin is amazing. They really make your stay very special and care free. Their very accommodating, helpful and friendly. One of the concierges knew we were there on our honeymoon and as we were coming back from dinner one night asked us if we were going to be in our room. He said: "Okay I have a surprise for you" and brought us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. (And we didn't have to pay for it)

The one downside to staying at the Westin is the beach is pretty sad. The Westin is on the Pacific side of the country and everyone over there says the prettiest beaches are on the Caribbean side of the island. The Westins beach is over run with sticks and with people trying to sell you things(which was fairly common everywhere from people we talked to staying at other hotels). The pools make up for this however, I think.

We loved our stay at the Westin and from what we could tell from talking to couples staying at other hotels it is definitely one of the better places to stay in Costa Rica. I would highly recommend coming here.

Room Tip: If you don't have kids stay in the Royal Beach Club. It allows you access to a private pool that...
