we stopped in the hotel just for lunch, parked the car in the hotel park area, just in front of the security (?) man. In one hour all our cases were stolen from the car. Frontdesk staff was unhelpful, we ourselves had to call the police. Hotel staff kept saying that we were robbed before arriving to the hotel, the director never appeared, the security man did not see anything and did not care ...
By the way, the hotel is more than 1 hour away from the sea and hotel is quite ugly.

i have read the other reviews and my experience there was quite different. the room was clean with fresh sheets, a/c was old but functional, actually a charming old world ambience. five star rating compared to most hotels around central america.

I stayed in this hotel on the last day of my honeymoon before leaving Costa Rica. The best part of this hotel is that it is close to the airport. Everything else about this hotel is average. My room on the first floor was bland, a little dirty, but nice enough. There was broken glass under my bed and none of the blankets matched. The floor is tile, not carpet. But it has air conditioning, a TV, and hot water. The free breakfast had a few hot items but not too much. Eggs, fruit, bread, and (or course) lots of yummy coffee. The hotel is within walking distance of some restaurants, an internet cafe, and a grocery store. There is free parking. If you are looking for something inexpensive without the frills, then this hotel will do for you. But don't expect much.

As I am a resident of Guanacaste I have had the opportunity to stay here on various occasions. I can firmly report that the hotel is quite basic in all forms. It is amazing that they are able to continue using the Best Western name. I can imagine that any normal middle class american would be appalled when they arrive to their room. Unfortunately, this is the best available option close to the airport as all other hotels in Liberia are basically negative 1 - 3 stars.
