“Room was just a place to sleep but the restaurant and pool were great!!”

I stayed here back in Dec 2004. My wife, 15 year old son and 9 year old daughter flew into Liberia and needed a place to stay. The room was OK, like others said, about a Motel 6 quality room but the courtyard with the pool was extremely nice. We ate 2 meals in the restaurant and they were great!. We hires a guide who drove us to the volcanic area with the mud pits. This was awesome!! 2 nights here would be more than enough. It's a place to sleep and nothing more.

This hotel is completely misrepresented by Best Western as having any shred of quality. The room was full of ants, the bedding dingy and threadbare, the furniture/AC unit old and falling apart. Except for one younger girl that waited tables, the predominately male staff in the outdoor restaurant could not have been crankier about having to deal with customers. It's time that Liberia built some new hotels so travellers are not forced to stay at this, one of the only hotels near the airport.

“A good place to stay”

Best Western El Sitio Hotel & Casino

We stayed at the El Sitio for 10 nights during the month of November 2006. When I first saw the bed, I was worried. It looked low and felt rather firm. However, both my husband and I slept well every night. We enjoyed the grounds, the pool and the breakfast every morning. The young man who managed the breakfast was always extremely courteous. Since we have family living near Liberia, we plan to visit again in about a year. We definitely plan to stay at the El Sitio again. We also like it's location, near a small shopping center. By the way, while we were there, many things were being painted to freshen the image of the hotel. This gives us confidence that they care about the hotel and plan to keep it looking good.

“It's bad, but not that bad”

Prior to visiting this hotel, we read all of the previous reviews, and I was quite nervous about staying here with my wife and two teenage daughters. However, there isn't much choice in Liberia, and since we had an early flight out we decided one night can't be that bad. We found most of the front desk staff to be pleasant (speaking a little Spanish helped), and had no problems with check in or check out. The rooms are old, worn and void of any characther whatsoever, but we did not think ours was overly dirty. Sheets and towels are threadbare, but ours were clean. We also did not feel unsafe in the hotel. After reading the reviews, we decided against the hotel restaurant, and walked a short distance to a Burger King. We left too early for breakfast, so I can't comment on that. Overall, this is not a desirable place, but unless somebody comes up with another choice, it is an acceptable hotel for one night on the beginning or end of the trip.

We stayed here two nights, one night after flying into Liberia until we could get the rental car the next morning, and the night prior to us flying out. I think I would have rather slept in our rental car and saved the 65$! This place is a dump.

- Front desk staff was rude and unhelpful. The afternoon we checked in at 4 pm (check in time is 3), and we were told room 106. Then she decided room 206, gave us our key and we went up to the room only to find the key didn't work in the lock. I went down to the front desk to get her to reprogram the key when she said "oh wait theres people in that room", and then put us in room 212, except the room was still a mess and the maid would be in their shortly. We went to just drop off our luggage while the maid was still in their cleaning, which lead to her screaming at us in rapid spanish fire.. Staff was extremely lazy and unhelpful and rude.
- While in room 212, we had the safe deposit key still for room 206. Safe deposit key for room 206 worked in room 212's safe..
- Their king sized beds? Actually two twin mattresses pushed together.
- Our TV didn't work, very fuzzy.. TV was just old, wasn't the cable or anything.
- The complimentary breakfast you get is a joke, don't bother wasting time with it. What a discouraging first morning in costa rica, to be eating cereal with warm milk, something that looked like eggs and toast that the flies were sitting on. We asked the waiter if the water in the coffee was purifed and he shrugged at us and didn't even bother to give us an answer.
- The absolute only reason you would want to stay here is because its a $12 cab ride from the Liberia airport and for the (loud) air conditioning.
