“Very basic hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

The hotel is 15 mins from the airport, but very basic hotel not what usually the stander of the Best Western hotel !!!!!!!!! Need a good refresh up date on style ....... For 1 night is OK but not longer!!!!! You have other hotel 2 mins from Best Western are less expensive and more stylish. There isn't any elevator, and better room front of the pool. The 2 girls worked at the front desk are the most helpful ........ specially if you have to go on bus or taxi to Santa Teresa.

We used the El Sitio as a stop-over for 5 days before catching the flight home at the end of a 10 week backpacking trip through Central America.

After the open sewers of Nicaragua, the El Sitio seemed, at first, to be paradise.

It is a basic Best Western that we were able to book on-line. All good so far.

The challenges soon became apparent...

The internet failed many times every day. If you need to do business, this hotel probably isn't the one. Of the 5 days we were there the internet was actually usable (it was working and we were awake) for about 20 hours. It went down in the middle of log-ins a few times. The front office always said they would "fix" it but it never happened.

Hot water ran out if there was anyone in the adjacent rooms. Frustrating after weeks of cold showers while backpacking.

Breakfast was... awful. Inedible. We ended up just eating the fruit.

One of the bed frames broke (just from sitting down on the bed).

The room key failed a bunch of times and we had to trudge back to reception to get another one cut.

The maids threw out our toothpaste.

No airport shuttle, and no idea about the timetable for the Aeropuerto buses.

Pool area was "adequate" for a nice lie down but a bit too much green stuff growing in the pool itself for my liking.

The disco over the road (and another down the road) thump away until the early morning on the weekend. Had to wear earplugs.

All in all not that good. Would not go back - there must be something in Liberia that is better value for the money.

Room Tip: Ask for a high number room. 227 or 226 will get you the furthest away from the street/disco noise b...

If you want a comfortable, down-scale, but clean safe stay for a night or two, this is just fine. The staff was very accomodating, the room was simple, large, but plain. Definitely was clean and well kept. Could use an upgrade, then I expect it would be more expensive. There are in room safes, but ask because some of them don't work, and that will come in handy. Pool was great. We left too early in the morning to comment on the complimentary breakfast.

Stay at a beach resort, they are very close to the airport, if you want something upscale, or the Liberia Hilton. Meanwhile if you just want a simple, clean room, this is a sure thing. Pool was comfortable. On site restaurant just fine. This would be my choice every time...

Room Tip: Man, we were there for a horse festival on the first weekend in March. What a KICK! Very cool.

Check in was easy, desk staff spoke good English, and were very helpful. Rooms were plain, but quite acceptable. Air conditioning worked VERY well. More than enough hot water in shower. Bed and pillow were comfortable for me, although my spouse thought the bed too hard. The casino is closed (or never opened), but we weren't interested in it anyway. Pools (a very large adult pool and a large wading pool) were clean, as was the large beautiful courtyard surrounding them. Free breakfast was "typical Tico" - scrambled eggs, gallo pinto, and fried plantains, and was decent, but uninspired. Toast, cake, and juices, as well as coffee and tea were available. Two negatives - we were three in one room, and needed a third towel set. We reported this at the desk, and were told one would be sent to the room. It never arrived. Wi Fi worked only in the lobby, for some reason, it faded out when my spouse carried the online iPad back to the room. We paid $92 for three, which seemed a little high, but not terrible. We have stayed in hotels in Costa Rica that were much worse than this!

First of all, they have no elevators, so if you're on the 2nd floor, you get to carry alll your luggage up the stairs.Second- there is no casino, as stated on-line & on the hotel sign. The A/C was terrible & did not work correctly. It probably cooled the room to 85*.There were dead roaches in the room. The beds were very uncomfortable & the pillows felt like they were filled with hard balls of fabric. On a positive note, the pool area was nice & the food was good. I strongly suggest you stay at the Hilton. They have a shuttle (which this hotel didn't) & it's directly across from the airport.Overall this place needs to be scrapped & re-built!

Room Tip: there is no good room at this dive!
