“Exceptional Trip - Great Attention to detail - Best way to see the country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Contacted Freddy based on reviews and other people were not mistaken or exaggerating. Freddy is the best tour guide I have had on any trip I have take to any city or country.

Further, his unique style of a private tour made all the difference in the world. We booked with Freddy 2 months in advance for a Monday, Wen and Fri tour. We have considered booking every day, but Freddy advised us that the season we arrived some of the tours he offered were not as exceptional and he didn't recommend. So working with Freddy we came up with the perfect package for 4 based on what we wanted to do.

Upon arriving in Costa Rica, his driver was there and waiting for the transfer to the hotel. No guess work, his company was there and ready to go.

On Monday we took the Borinquen Adventure Tour. The tour was private as advertised but that was not the real bonus. On the way to the Zip lines, the mood for the week was set. We were driving along the hiway and Freddy saw some rare ducks and other beards in a pond by the side of the road. We detoured and got close enough to view and take pictures and talk about them. Then a little while later, Freddy spotted tucans in the trees. None of us saw them, but he did, stopped the van and we got out of the van and looked till everyone saw them, talked about them and took photos of them.

Then on the tours, he went with us, took pictures of and with us. answered all questions, even the ones He did know. He joked he didn't know and through out a fun answer.

Freddy made this one of the best international trips I have ever taken. The week just got better every time we were with him on a tour.

Highly recommend

“Freddie's Most Flexible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Freddie Montero picked us up at the Liberia Airport and drove the four of us in his immaculate and air conditioned 2011 Van to our resort. A native of Costa Rica, he started working in resorts as a young man and learned English very well. Indeed, he is more than fluent.

In addition to driving us to the airport, Freddie told us about some of the trips he has on his web-site. “But these are just ideas”, he said repeatedly, “I will drive you wherever you want to go in Costa Rica.” He was true to his word. .

We selected two tours: a rive tour and a second tour to a spectacular waterfall and nature preserve. Don’t miss the waterfall.

The river tour had us on a boat where we saw an abundance of wildlife including crocodiles, monkeys and the like. Then we went to a very small Costa Rican village for lunch. Superb!

Possibly a highlight of the trip was a visit to an area of the river where young men herded an ox team and a two-wheeled card to mine sand from the bottom of the river. Given the volcanic nature of Costa Rica, sand for concrete is in short supply and with the emphasis on echo-considerations, these men would drive the ox team into the fiver and then would fill the box with sand scoped from the bottom of the river in plastic five-gallon buckets. Amazing!

The second all-day tour started at 7:00 AM and took us to a spectacular waterfall before going to a nature preserve at Ecocentro Danaus.

In a word: Unexcellable!

“****** Highly Recommend! ******”

My boyfriend and I took our first trip to Costa Rica this March. We booked the Borinquen Tour and the Nicaragua Tour with Freddy. Freddy was got back to us right away and was very helpful with suggestions. We had an amazing time. We learned so much about Costa Rica. Even got beautiful pictures of toucans. Our guide came on the ziplines with us and took the most amazing pictures.
The Nicaragua Tour was a small group, but was definitely worth it. So much to see in a short time!
I highly recommend booking a tour with Costa Rica Private Tours. I look forward to booking a tour with them the next time I come to Costa Rica.

“Miguel and William were amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Highly recommend any of the tours that Freddy offers. We had such a nice time with Miguel and William that we specifically requested them for a second tour. Extremely professional and lots of fun. This is the best way to see any of the excursions in Liberia.

“Freddy and his team were the best !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We booked four tours with Freddy. We enjoyed them in the following order:

1. Borinquen Tour: Went with Freddy and another very nice couple we met on the plane ride to Costa Rica. We did the mud baths, the natural sauna and springs, horse back riding and zip lining. This tour was the perfect mixture of adventure and relaxation.

2. Beach Tour: Freddy basically acted as our driver to the different beaches. However, he did drive through the small towns along the way telling us a little about the towns history. He also took us through some rough roads for us to see the country's terrain as well. This tour was very nice for us because Freddy went out of his way to find us a Dune Buggy adventure which we went on for 4 hours. It was amazing.. if you want to go dune buggying in Costa Rica.. dont go with Go Buggy.. ask Freddy to take you to the company that has the new and more powerful buggys. The Buggy adventure was a separate cost though, so bring extra cash!

3. Palo Verde Boat Tour: We did this tour first, so Freddy took us through the town that he grew up in and shows us a few things along the way. We told him we wanted to try a freshly picked mango and he even stopped at a tree on the road to pick us some. We also had a really nice authentic Costa Rican lunch which was great. This tour also took us to see the natives making pottery. Freddy is also very knowledgeable about wildlife, so the boat tour was both educational and interesting.

4.Arenal Volcano Tour: This was the only tour that Freddy didn't attend. We went with Alejandro instead and it was equally as informative and entertaining as Freddy would have been. The downside about this tour is that it is a long road trip there and back. The roads also are not in the best condition but if you're planning to go to Costa Rica to see a Volcano... do this tour! We got lucky and managed to see the volcano in pretty good view as it was a nice day. We also went through the rain forest and saw some animals and species that we otherwise wouldn't have. My suggestion for this tour is to bring BUG REPENTANT!! We ended the day with the natural hot springs and a nice dinner.

Overall, Freddy was great. The part that we most enjoyed about Freddy and his team was that he would take us to the locations that are still touristy but MUCH LESS crowded. For example: He took us to the natural hot springs that were more expensive to book, but only had 3 couples or so where as the other springs had busloads of people. He also took us on a private boat tour vs. the ones that take 20-30 people. He took us zip lining during the non peak hours so that we had the ziplines to ourselves.

The other thing we enjoyed about Freddy was he gave us enough entertainment without intruding in our privacy. He also made it clear that his priority was for us to enjoy ourselves. It was also VERY nice to have our own private van with air conditioning and drinks.

I also loved that Freddy was honest. He gave us truthful advice even if it is not in his favor and he LOVES his country.

I would recommend Freddy if you want to have a personalized Costa Rican experience. It was great. Support Freddy & support the locals.. they work super hard and I hope to see you again someday Freddy!
