“The best Liberia has.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2009

The Hilton Garden Inn is right across the road from the airport. They have a free shuttle. Best of all, it is not like other mid-grade hotels. In Costa Rica, this is a 4+ star hotel. Everything went right, the service was impeccable and in English, and the price was right. Only thing is the restaurant for $25/pp has a weird supper buffet that isn't worth it. Go down the road to Churza (toward Liberia about 500 m) and it is excellent authentic food. This is a true gem of a Hilton property. Better than the Hilton in Chicago!!! Stay here. Convenient, close.

The Hilton Garden Inn at LIR Liberia International Airport is roughly 6 months old and is the only property in the Liberia area that would meet the standards and expectations of business travellers and those who expect exceptional service, food, and amenities in an otherwise barren desert area, 10 km away from Liberia. Prior to the opening of this property, I'm not sure where people would have stayed should they have been stranded overnight due to a flight cancellation and so forth. There are two Best Westerns and a few hostel type places with poor reviews. The Hilton Garden Inn room we stayed in was fantastic, large bathroom, king bed, separate bathroom and pullout couch in the living room, complimentary high-speed internet, complimentary bottled water, room service, a work-out room, meeting rooms, an outdoor pool, a restaurant, and a convenience/souvenir store on site. The cleanliness was impecabble and all staff were expceptionally great, cheerful and pleasant. It is an interesting contrast to see this hotel in a 'desert-like' setting, surrounded by buildings that are being developed (although seem to be at a stand-hill). Overall, would definitely stay here again when having to over-night in Liberia.

This hotel is brand new and very nice. We decided to stay the nigth before our flight as it was early a.m. and didn't want to leave Tamarindo at 3:30 a.m. Drinks in the bar are expensive for Costa Rica, beer and a gin and tonic was $12. The beds were very comfortable, the only problem being the A/C was extremely loud which we found odd for a brand new hotel. If tthey fix the A/C problem, it would be perfect!

  • Liked — brand new hotel; beds in the room
  • Disliked — air conditioning and the price of drinks and restaurant prices

We stayed at this hotel one night in December and one night in January surrounding our flights in and out of the Liberia airport. Basically we were looking for a hotel close to the airport and at a decent price, and we found both in the Hilton Garden Inn. We got a great rate ($79/night) and had a nice stay. The hotel is brand new with a nice pool, gym, restaurant/bar, etc. They also have a free shuttle to and from the airport. We ate at the restaurant one of the nights for dinner and the food was good, although a little higher priced than non-hotel places in Costa Rica. We also had breakfast at the hotel which is also a little pricey, but I believe you can get a rate that includes breakfast (we just happened not to). It is a full breakfast buffet and was very good though. The rooms are exactly what you would expect from a Hilton Garden Inn anywhere (clean, comfortable) and had internet and satellite tv. Overall, if you are looking for a convenient place to stay near the airport, then this is a great hotel. If you are looking for somewhere to stay though to do some sightseeing and what not, I would probably stay elsewhere.

  • Liked — Proximity to the airport, nice rooms
  • Disliked — Pricey restaurant

We recently stayed at HGI for two nights for vacation in Guanacaste. This hotel is totally new, so everything is nice and shiny. Personnel very nice and helpful. Great beds, chairs and TV. The only problem is the A/C which is extremely noisy, something people at the front desk are aware of. We took the breakfast included option and it was great, except from the gallo pinto (Costa Ricas´ typical breakfast), which does not represent the country. So far the hotel is isolated but they are building a hospital and a mall nearby, and it is across from the airport, but not so near as to hear the planes landing and taking off. I guess it will be perfect for people coming to Guanacaste for pleasure or medical purposes.

  • Liked — the cleanliness and the beds
  • Disliked — A/C

A great option for Liberia, new hotel, great over-sized rooms. the staff are well trained. Only neg is the food options late at night. I bought a little frozen pasta and was charged $12.00 ( cooked it in the microwave in the room) The next day I needed breath mints and the cost a little more than three dollars. I buy these at other stores for $.75 cents The morning breakfast was $12.00....worth it for what I have seen from other breakfasts around Costa Rica. The rooms are equipped with flat screen and very nice beds, and a large desk with free wireless internet. will stay again on the next trip North.

We stayed here after leaving Santa Elena, and it was fabulous. Very clean. Great breakfast. Only a short drive from the beach.
