“Off the main path.....way worth the trip!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Rio Perdido this past five days and can only say it was excellent and perfect for our first stay while in the country for three weeks. The rooms are nice little cabins with everything you would need.....TV, frig with mini bar, well appointed bathroom, sitting area in room and back porch. Great view of the jungle with the sounds of parrots and howler monkeys in the river below.

The food was alway great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On our last evening, we had a private romantic dinner on the platform overlooking the canyon and river as the sun set. If you can book this private experience it is a must! You feel so pampered and the rate was worth every penny for a complete meal bottle..your choice of wine, desert and coffee included. First class treatment.....ask for Elroy...he will be your captain for the evening with service that will amaze you!

Don't miss the canyon zip line adventure right there at the resort. The best we have done in any country. More just than a zip line it's outstanding. The views below are very special and the guides are the best with safety and fun as their top priority.

Visiting the thermal river just steps from your room in the jungle every day is a must. Relaxing and sitting in the shade of the trees ...get there before this hidden jewel gets really busy as we expect will be the case as this resort gets better known.

Can't say enough about the resort, the staff and overall experience was awesome! Affordable for now.....but we expect rates to climb as more people learn about this unforgettable resort.

Although we stayed at the Four Seasons, we went off campus to Rio Perdido one day and now want to go back and stay here. It is a family run, high end place in the dry rain forest. It is geared more for active folks. They have an awesome zip line/ropes course. They also have tapped into natural water sources providing natural hot, medium and cold water directly from the earth! They have 3 pools, each fed by one of the springs. One has a swim up bar. They also have a hot spring in the jungle for lounging. A mud bath is being planned. Another part of our group had an excellent time mountain biking and quenched themselves with a natural spring of carbonated water! The food is locally sourced as much as possible and delicious. The spa was also recommended.

We came to Rio Perdido on a day pass to use the hot springs. As soon as we parked our car, a golf cart appeared to take us to the reception desk. We were greeted with smiles and glasses of fresh juice. The property is modern and splendid. The hotel pools are clean and inviting. The naturally hot river was SPECTACULAR! It was exactly what we went to La Fortuna looking for, but never found! Lunch was great, drinks were fabulous. We were given a tour of one of the cabinas before we left. It was modern and comfortable looking.

A great day at Rio Perdido!

We booked Rio Perdido fairly last minute not knowing what to expect. The road in left much to the imagination but wouldn't change it for anything. Here's a motto, "Just keep going, it's worth it." The bungalows are very well built and sealed tight so no critters get in (after all you are literally in the middle of the rain forest!)

The design of the whole place is very serene and peaceful. The best is the thermal river followed by the zip lining. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating and are sure to make your stay very nice. In fact, they set up a private dinner for us on a deck far off from the restaurant overlooking the two rivers while surrounded by Tiki torches. You are about 200 ft up and have never seen more stars in all your life. Very romantic! We spent about 10 hours in the thermal river over the 3 day period and also did the zip lining using their carbon fiber lines which are nearly silent so you can really hear the nature as you go. It's a fun course and you'll have to try it to experience the thrills.

This is a new hotel, opening December '13 so there are some minor kinks to be worked out and it's clear management is on top of them. The food can get a bit redundant over a longer stay. Fortunately, the staff's attitude is so pleasant and accommodating that they assisted with everything, including cooking something off the menu if available.

If asked if I would go back... absolutely! It was our favorite spot during our trip to CR.

Arriving at Rio Perdido you can feel a calming effect wash over you as you enter the property. It is nestled amonst the lush greenery of the forest and what awaits you below the canopy of the towering trees and the howler monkeys is paradise found in the hot springs.

Check-in was quick and efficient and we were wisked away to our room via the electric carts. The individual style cottage units provided all the modern amenities of home and more. Swinging chairs on the porch were great for reading and relaxing in. The rooms were spacious & clean and robes were also provided. The beds and bedding were 5* and very comfortable too. An evening turn down service was a nice touch with the blinds being drawn down and a plate of homemade cookies to enjoy. The winding pathways from the rooms will lead you to the restaurant, spa and pool areas. Make sure to bring a flashlight (torch) with you as some areas near the stairway are not lighted. The restaurant served a variety of foods, evening buffets with soup, salad, main course & desert or you could order from the menu. Breakfast was included with the room rate and there was plenty to eat with fresh fruit, eggs, sausages, rice & beans, toast and fresh juices, coffee etc. Food and drinks were also available at the pool bar as well. My daughter and I both enjoyed the Spa and had a very relaxing massage. All the staff at Rio Perdido were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure you were having an enjoyable stay.

The canyon tour is more than just zip-lining over the tree tops..in fact that's the easy part they save for the end. The beauty that lies below in the canyon is breathtaking and very rugged as you are sent on your way. The Tarzan and Pendulum swings allow one to fully scream and yell to their hearts content while feeling like a kid. The guides are very professional and safety is their #1 concern as well as making sure you have an amazing adventure that makes you want to do it all over again.

The pools by the main building are all different temperatures and are very relaxing, but the real beauty is found when you continue down to the river. As you follow the path you come to the top of a stone stairway descending down and in less than a minute you arrive at the first natural thermal pool with temperatures of approximately 101F. A short walk along the pathway by the river will lead you to your own private pool in the lush forest, continue on and you can walk for more than a kilometer to diamond rock where the north spring is located or just sit under the waterfall and have the best shoulder massage.

There is so much to do here whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation or wanting to discover your inner child again, you can certainly do it at Rio Perdido. Pura Vida

We spent the day at Rio Perdido, our intent was mainly to visit the hot springs, but we were amazed by the hotel and surrounding landcape. The road to this hotel and hot springs is fairly rough and hard to get to, but it is well worth it. This resort appears out of the rugged landscape, looking slightly surreal. The buildings are very modern like pieces of artwork and you get the illusion of being outdoors when you are actually indoors. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ate lunch in their restaurant before swimming, the food was served buffet style, the choices were traditional Costa Rican food and it was tasty. There is an outdoor bar close to the modern pools.

There are two large separate male and female changing areas with lockers where we were able to store our clothes. They give you towels to use. To sit in the hot springs you can choose between using the modern pools next to the hotel or using the natural untouched hot springs. We chose the natural version, it was a short walk over the hanging bridge and along a fairly steep trail down to reach the actual water. The water is a comfortable temperature allowing us to lounge in the water. I love the tranquility of this place.
