Stayed at the Pacuare Lodge December 11-13th for our 5th year anniversary....It was the most spectacular and restful place ever.
The raft ride in was fairly easy as it was class I & II rapids. Good introduction to the trip. Our guide Antonio was so laid back that he made the raft ride enjoyable for all.
The lodge was beautiful. My husband and I stayed in the honeymoon suite. Nothing prepared us for the luxury of it. Pictures do not do it justice. The infinity pool and personal look out point was the bonus. One thing to note is that this suite is far up the side of the hill, it is a steep climb, but it helped burn off the calories from the amazing food that Warner prepared. Really, no one should eat that well in the middle of the rain forest.
I partook in the early morning bird walk. It started at 6am and concluded around 8am. It was fun to walk the grounds with binoculars and telescope with my guide and see all the birds. He had amazing eye sight and listening skills, I bet we must of seen at least 20 different birds and butterflies. He was so informative. Sorry but his name is escaping me, but he was the manager.
The best part of this trip is that I had secretly arranged with Pacuare Lodge for a romantic dinner for myself and my husband. Warner met with me and we discussed the menu. While I entertained my husband at the main lodge, the staff slipped up to our room (no small feat) and set up a romantic setting for us on our porch. A nice table beautifully set with candles, flowers. 2 tiki lamps added to the nuance, along with tea lights lighting the way to our suite. They also put tea lights along the side of the pool and floated flowers with tea lights on them in the pool. It was gorgeous. Then the manager and Warner, personally brought our food up to us (again no small feat) course by course. Warner out did himself with that meal. It was the best ever.
We also did the hike to the 2 waterfalls. They were beautiful and worth the hike. It should be noted that at this time, it was usually clear in the morning, but tended to rain for an hour or so each afternoon, but it is the rain forest.... Again it just forces you to hang out either at the main lodge or in your hammock reading a book. It was just so peaceful.
This lodge is amazing and you can't help but feel relaxed when you leave, but exhilarated at the same time by the class III & IV raft ride out. At all times we felt safe and just had an absolute blast.
It is the staff that really makes this place. They go so out of their way to make your stay memorable. I agree with others that say 2-3 days is enough there. But I will definitely go there again - no hesitation
