Casa Turire is a pleasant stay in a lovely inn with nicely landscaped grounds, as well as a convenient place for casual birdwatching. The trees outside the entrance have a dozen Montezuma oropendola nests, bright tanagers are all about, and the grounds include trees favored by handsome black vultures. The upper end of the lake is a natural area with a trail, and holds a variety of ducks and shorebirds.
The rooms are all on the second floor, with balconies that overlook the lake, the pool, or the grounds. Our room was comfortable, and the balcony was large enough for a table and two chairs.
The service at the restaurant was professional, and the outside seating allowed a family with kids and us to watch a large lizard one evening. The breakfasts were tasty. The dinners were interesting and plated nicely. The cheese selection, pasta with fresh local mushrooms and veggies, and dessert all complemented each other nicely in the chef's three course special.
We stayed several nights, while kayaking or rock climbing at Escalada Cachi or hiking in La Marta during the day.
