“Rooster costs one star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Stayed here a few nights as part of a tour group. It was a very interesting place, and but for a single caveat, we would have loved it. The hotel is in what looks like an old hacienda or plantation building, with the rooms on the upper floors around a large interior court. Looked to have less than 20 rooms. It is really a fascinating looking place. The rooms themselves likewise have an older feeling, but are comfortable. There is no A/C (more on that below). The restaurant was quite good. Good food, good service. Nice small pool area. There is an on-site (or at least affiliated) stable for horseback riding. The hotel property is technically on a small lake, but the lake is not really that accessible (too bad). There are a lot of large birds (maybe some sort of vulture) that live on or near the property and provide a really fascinating display as they sun themselves in the morning. So here is the issue we had. The hotel has some exotic birds caged near the hotel. Apparently there is also a rooster (or something that crows) as well. We were on the side of the hotel that faces the entrance (as opposed to facing the pool) and whatever it was that was crowing kept us awake (my wife, a light sleeper, up quite often; I am a heavier sleeper, but still awakened very early). And because of the lack of A/C, we really relied on keeping the balcony door open to allow for some breeze. I know this may sound picky, but it was intrusive to us and frankly affected our enjoyment of what otherwise would have been a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Stay on the pool side if you are a light sleeper.

Great place to spend a night or two while travelling. We stayed here after flying into San Jose airport on our way to Puerto Veija. Staff was very welcoming with a cold cocktail waiting. Dinner was excellent and served by the pool. The room was a decent size with comfortable beds. Overall, great experience and would recommend as a stopping point.

We were welcomed when we arrived with a nice cold welcome drink and smiling faces at the front desk. We were escorted to our room which was a standard room. It was very spacious with two beds and a nice little balcony. The room safe was extremely small only accommodating the size of a passport. There was only a ceiling fan, but that is all you needed at night as the room stayed very comfortable. There was no in room fridge but the staff were gracious to supply us with an ice bucket to keep some drinks cold. We walked around the grounds and it truly shows pride of ownership with the beautifully kept gardens. The hotel is a flashback to an old style plantation very classy and stately. There were plenty of areas to sit and read or enjoy a drink. The pool area was very nice and usually very quiet, due to the majority of guests engaging in excursions. The property has it's own vegetable gardens which the hotel serves in their restaurant. Breakfast was impressive. A little bit of everything to suit everyone's taste. It was a pleasure having Raphael serving us our coffee at our table. Always very pleasant with a friendly smile on his face. We took advantage of horseback riding tour with Enrique. A must do while you are there. We went to the coast for a couple of days and returned and booked into one of their suites. It had all the ammenities we needed with a full size safe and an in room fridge. There was also a beautiful jacuzzi tub. There was air conditioning but we opted for the ceiling fan. In both rooms the water pressure was low, but there was plenty of hot water. We enjoyed a beautiful supper in the dining room. The menu was quite impressive. The portions were perfect along with excellent presentation. The staff here are more than eager to make your stay very comfortable. Casa Turire is set off in a remote spot but it is just a short taxi ride to Turrialba if you wanted to go into town for shopping or restaurants. We highly recommend it!

This hotel is in an interesting part of the country and superficially a pleasant enough place to stay - staff were all very helpful and food was nice. But it suffers from a complete lack of atmosphere and mock opulence - from its grand driveway to its empty lounge areas. Of all the places we stayed in costa rica this was the one where we felt we didn't have any connection to the local people or the local area. But we did find a nice alternative place to eat just down the road to Turrialba on right hand side - the Angustura where the owner could not have been more welcoming and the excellent food was half the price of the Casa Turire. The coffee tour at the Golden Bean was excellent

it's an absolutely great hotel to get rid of the flight stress and jet-lag (just 2hs by car from the alajuela airport). we did especially like the "southern-states-architecture". the environs, service level and food was outstanding. recommendation: take a right at the exit from the hotel (not a left to turrialba) and follow the unpaved road throughout the sugarcane fields until reaching the chachi lake - here to have your fresh trout (or fresh water crayfishes) at "la casona del cafetal" and enjoy the gorgeous view accross the lake, which flame-tree (poro) arrangement resembles the indian summers in new england

Room Tip: we were placed at room no. 10, which was fairly ok, but could have been little more spacious - the b...

We spent a night in this lovely hotel on a great spot. Peace allover, only the sound of the birds and insects. The hotel is so unique, a little hacienda, very nice rooms, good chef and a very friendly staff. If the sky is clear you can see the vulcano Torrialba.
This was definitively not the last time we went to this hitel.

We have been vacationing in Costa Rica for the past 5 years and just found this place on our last visit. It is our new favorite hotel. It's small and quiet yet has all of the luxuries. The restaurant was amazing......GREAT food and GREAT service!!! The views from every part of the hotel are beautiful. We stayed there 3 nights and I did not want to leave. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: If there was a fitness center I did not see it, but they have boats that you can kayak on the lake o...
