Stayed here a few nights as part of a tour group. It was a very interesting place, and but for a single caveat, we would have loved it. The hotel is in what looks like an old hacienda or plantation building, with the rooms on the upper floors around a large interior court. Looked to have less than 20 rooms. It is really a fascinating looking place. The rooms themselves likewise have an older feeling, but are comfortable. There is no A/C (more on that below). The restaurant was quite good. Good food, good service. Nice small pool area. There is an on-site (or at least affiliated) stable for horseback riding. The hotel property is technically on a small lake, but the lake is not really that accessible (too bad). There are a lot of large birds (maybe some sort of vulture) that live on or near the property and provide a really fascinating display as they sun themselves in the morning. So here is the issue we had. The hotel has some exotic birds caged near the hotel. Apparently there is also a rooster (or something that crows) as well. We were on the side of the hotel that faces the entrance (as opposed to facing the pool) and whatever it was that was crowing kept us awake (my wife, a light sleeper, up quite often; I am a heavier sleeper, but still awakened very early). And because of the lack of A/C, we really relied on keeping the balcony door open to allow for some breeze. I know this may sound picky, but it was intrusive to us and frankly affected our enjoyment of what otherwise would have been a very enjoyable stay.
