“Secluded jungle experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

This ecolodge has 10 cabins, each with two double beds with mosquito nets. The shower has two large high windows, so you can look out at the jungle wildlife whilst you're in there. There are two balconies and a hammock for relaxing in, after a day out or spent just walking aroung the jungle trails.

We walked all the trails, there is one close to the hotel that is quite easy, the other trails include some steep parts. That said it was worth the effort to reach a clearing with views down the hillside. We spent a log of time alone here, at a look out point, watching hummingbirds, butterflies and other birds, whilst the vultures circled overhead. It's worth taking a picnic to spend more time enjoying the scenery and nature.

Staff were helpful, just two of them cooking, cleaning and serving us at the bar. The bar had swings, to sit and enjoy the evening. The dining area was set in the jungle, open at all sides...which did make it a little chilly when we were there. Depending on the time of year you travel (we were there in December) you might want to take warm clothes for the evening and for sleeping in. Food was local, home cooked and fairly simple, at very reasonable prices. The local Casado with fish or beef were excellent value. One evening, as there were a group of us, we had a buffet for $12, including soup, 3 mains and vegetables & rice, mango juice & cake.

If the jungle wakes you early, white faced capuchins on the roof, it's worth a stroll to the small wooden platform near the restaurant to see the wildlife at its best.

There is no electricity in the rooms, there is a torch and two lamps, which provide a basic amount of light. if you don't like the silence of the jungle, made all the more quiet without the electricity, this is not the place for you! If you want a peaceful get away, where you can experience nature at it's best, then we'd thoroughly recommend Wagelia Espino Blanci Lodge.

Room Tip: All 10 cabins are the same. A torch & lantern are provided, but you might want a head torch for...

Planned 3 nights here, but only stayed 1 due to the rain. My husband, myself & 2 1/2 yo daughter were totally into the experience & the architecture, but the rain was just too much & we left early to head for the Pacific coast. The staff is super attentive, thorough & friendly. The restaurant has the same food as the Wagelia in town... which is ok, but weird at times, not great. The best part of this place is the unique ambience... we've never been any place like it! The bar is fun with the swings, the trails are really peaceful and the rooms are very clean and spacious. We like not having electricity too, but we love camping. The beds were very comfy. The shower had a great forest view. The paths after dark are romantic with the little solar lights lining them. This place would be a nice romantic get-away, now that I think of it. Wouldn't go back, but would still recommend to others for a visit.
