In March,2012, my male partner found a Groupon listed for this property. We viewed it online and found the reviews and site to be very interesting. We decided to book it for 6 days in Feb., 2013. We chose the Bere room as it seemed to be the most desirable one in the main building. I phoned the property and discussed what we requested. It was approved and we proceeded to make the necessary arrangements. During the next 10 months we had many emails, all mentioning the Bere room and our reservation. As events happened, we were married in early Feb. and planned to make this trip our honeymoon. Four days before we were to depart we received an email from Mariela Aguilar at the Hacienda stating that we would not be staying in the Bere room but were to be placed in the Peijbaye room which is not in the main building but across the parking lot. We were not happy with this change and responded as such. On arrival we still did not know our status.. We were told that we could stay in the Bere room for 4 of the 6 nights and then we were to move to the Peijbaye room for the last 2 nights. Again, we were not happy with this arrangement as the Hacienda did not seem to be fully booked- all the rooms in the main building were empty. We did pack all our things and move. The Peijbaye room was large with a full bathroom but definitely not as comfortable as the Bere, The room was dark and very drafty, so much so as the light fixtures and the curtains swayed with the blowing of the wind. It is a beautiful and well maintained property but this experience definitely put a sad note to our honeymoon. No one from management approached us during our stay to explain or discuss the situation.. Ana, at the main desk was very pleasant and tried to do her best to make this a good experience. All the housekeepers and tour guide,Jose, were very pleasant and helpful. This was our third visit to Costa Rica and we found many beautiful and interesting places with extremely pleasant people. Because of this experience we would not stay at the Hacienda again.
