“Wonderful. If you can stay here, do.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our 9-day vacation. I cannot think of a nicer place I have ever stayed, and highly recommend it to couples or families in search of a bit of peace and beauty. The grounds and the building are breathtaking. The design and attention to detail in everything -- from the decor to the gardens and landscapting -- are stunning. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff was warm and welcoming, and always ready to help make our stay better. Roy and Frederico were especially great. I didn't expect much from the tour, but ended up loving it. The Hacienda has been in the same family for more than 100 years, and only a boutique hotel for the last 4. The incredible design of the grounds are thanks to a matriarch from the 1940's -- very authentic. They grow macadamia nuts, coffee and sugar cane, and the tour demonstrates traditional methods for how these were produced, as well as other cool features/buildings on the grounds. The food was great too. I felt no need to leave the premises, although we did enjoy a walk down the lane about 1/2 mile one night to a nice local restaurant for dinner that was less expensive than Tayutic. Note that the walls are thin and it is not a place to be noisy in your room. That said, we found it perfect and enjoyed every moment.

“Can't stop thinking about this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

We spent three nights at the Hacienda Tayutic as part of a 9 week trip in Costa Rica with our 3 and 5 year old. We absolutely loved our experience at Hacienda Tayutic...I can't stop thinking about what a beautiful and welcoming place it was and wish there were more places like this out there! The staff was extremely attentive and professional, but also exceptionally warm. Very early in the morning, when I would be up with 3 year old, the staff invited us into the kitchen for coffee, bread right out of the oven and friendly conversation in (my very broken) Spanish. Another staff member invited us to his house for a playdate with his granddaughter, which my girls were thrilled about. The food was incredible, sitting out on the deck overlooking the lights of the town below. One night we had a blackout and the staff surrounded us with candles...it was beautiful and we wished the electricity would go out every night! We met the most interesting fellow travelers...the whole vibe of this place is gracious, relaxed and refined. The property tour is also excellent...we are now in Monteverde where they charge many times more for the same experience (and it's nowhere near as good, much more croweded). My only complaint is that we could hear our neighbors through the wall...though after having a great dinner with them we didn't mind anywhere near as much as I would have otherwise. In short, this is a place you don't hear much about but really should be considered if you're looking for an authentic, relaxing and friendly place to stay.

“Calm and beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

I stayed for only one night with my partner and two fourteen year-olds at the start of a costa rica vacation week. This was a great way to start! I highly recommend you ask for a tour of the grounds - learn about the coffee, sugar cane and fruit that is grown and processed at the hacienda. The food was great, service was assured and straightforward, and the staff was really nice to the kids. The setting is simply awesome. Watching toucans in the morning from your room - not your usual way to kick off the day in the US!

Room Tip: if you are a couple, ask for the room with the view of the valley. they have rooms with twin beds a...

“Amazing!!!”

My husband and I stayed there for a week to get away from the craziness of our daily lives and they exceeded our expectations. The staff was very friendly and very attentive. The food was top quality...delicious. The whole experience was wonderful and we highly recommend it if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica.

Room Tip: All the rooms here are beautiful. There are six to choose from (i think) so it makes for a very int...

“Exceeded Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Staying here for 6 nights was absolutely wonderful. We were a bit nervous visiting Costa Rica as we had never been to Central America and we are a bit particular, but it turned out to be one of the most beautiful vacations. Once you get there, definitely take your time discovering the grounds, enjoying the freshly prepared delicious meals (and presentation) and wonderful coffee, great service, and friendly staff who go out of their way to ensure your needs are met. For people who enjoy looking at birds, this is a great place to be able to enjoy without having to travel to a rainforest. We are avid birders and we discovered 40 different species of birds during our stay from the beautiful surroundings of the house. The staff was so accommodating to our need for a Costa Rican bird book that they brought two so we each had one. The owner, Frederico is the perfect host, and Roy is the best person for anything and everything (from history to server to conversation). We can't say enough about the beauty and serenity of the property. Everything is well-kept and awe-inspiring.

Room Tip: The Bere room has the best view
