“Green, refreshing, lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

In a country full of "American style" resorts, this is a refreshing, beautiful and very Costa Rican place to visit and enjoy. The hotel is in the middle of the mountain, 3 km away from a small town named Cachi.

Once you get to the hotel, the first thing you will notice is the personalized attention that you receive from the staff and the owner (don Jose), this cordiality will be present throughout your stay. The hotel has around 6 bungalows surrounded only by nature, they have a basic but modern style, also, some of them are equipped with a beautiful external shower (ask for it). You need to consider that this place is eco-friendly, so you won't find as many electrical devices as some other places (no tv, no A/C), but most of these things are not necessary at all in this place keeping in mind its context.

In the restaurant don Jose you can enjoy delicious food prepared by the owner himself, so you can expect quality in each selection. Also the views from the restaurant and outside of it are really nice, green everywhere with some birds, insects or small animals.

Although the weather was warm and sunny during the day, at night it was misty and pretty cold, so it is recommended to take some warm clothes. Also, considering that you will be in the middle of the mountain, you can expect some insects inside your room (ants, spiders) but nothing scary or dangerous.

In conclusion, it is a really natural, really Costa Rican lovely place to visit, try talking to Jose, he's very friendly, enjoy the nature, the food, and most importantly, relax.

Room Tip: There are two types of bungalows (external and internal bathroom), ask for the characteristics of ea...

If you're looking for a unique Costa Rican experience, away from the hustle and bustle of coast, this is THE place for you. Jose and his team provide the prefect relaxing environment for you to unwind and just absorb the beauty surrounding you. Tucked into the mountain side, you'll wake up to the sounds of birds and the stunning beauty of the lush landscape (hummingbirds just outside you door.) Our cabana had a wonderfully comfortable bed, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the valley and a wrap around porch to sit and savor the amazing coffee provided in your room (plus a small fridge!). You'll truly unwind as Jose pampers you with fresh fruit, organic eggs and rich, delicious coffee for your morning breakfast. Dinners are equally delicious. More than the all the amenities, our trip was made more complete by just spending time with Jose, who was born in raised in this amazing countryside. He's an amazing host. I know we will be back.

Room Tip: Be prepared to unwind... No TV's here.

Words cannot describe this amazing spot! Hotel Quelitales and the on-site restaurant, Casa Jose, were the highlight of our entire trip. The owner, Jose, is delightful to talk to and is an incredible, unbelievable, marvelous, astounding, extraordinary chef. Waking up to the sounds and views outside of our bungalow was relaxing and breathtaking. Don't miss this treasure! I know that whenever we are in Costa Rica again, we will go out of our way to go visit Jose.

This hotel is a gem. The setting is delightful nestling up in the hills above Cartago with a beautiful waterfall backdrop.

The proprietor, Jose, really made our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. He drove down to meet us when we were lost (yes, it's tricky to find!), he prepared some of the best food we ate in all of Costa Rica and he organised wonderful tours of the rainforest, white water rafting and hot spring visits nearby. He really did make us feel very welcome.

Hope to return soon!
Frank and Martina

During our trip through Costa Rica, we discovered this absolutely beautiful spot, which we can strongly recommend to everybody who is looking for a hideaway, perfect food and service.
We didn't booked this hotel in advance and only stepped in to ask for a room (low season in CR). From this point, Jose the owner, gave us an extremely warm welcome and showed an extraordinary sense of hospitality. The bangalows are spread all over the place right beside the jungle and are very clean and nice furnished with a picturesque view over the orosi valley.
As we arrived later in the afternoon and very much liked the place from the beginning on, we didn't want to go out for dinner. The resort has his own restaurant with a warm nice atmosphere. Although there's a huge menu card, we decided us for a menu surprise from Jose. Beside his charme and hospitality cooking is his passion. The quality of the food was the best we had all over Costa Rica and we'll never forget this evening. Unfortunately our trip plans forced us to leave the next morning (breakfast was also incredible) otherwise, we would have loved to stay many more nights and would have tried out the outdoor-massage next to the waterfall :-)
To make it clear: this place is amazing, absolutely worthwhile to stay there for people who are seeking for silence and best service away from the mass of tourist routes.
We will come back some day, thank you so much Jose! Marcel and Nathalie from Switzerland

We had a good time at Quelitales, in the rainforest with a fantastic waterfall. Bungalows are simple but big and comfortable.
The restaurant is just excellent, ask the chef to surprise you, and trust me, you will not be disappointed by his Tico fusion style cuisine, the food is also very well presented.
