My husband and I stayed at this loge for one night on the way to Poas Volcano - we were pleasantly surprised by the small but very clean and comfortable room, the cozy lodge, and good, family style meals.

We paid $75 which included a really nice breakfast.

We arrived in San Jose, picked up our rental car and drove to the Poas Volcano Lodge. The drive was nice, lodge was easy to find and we were very pleased with our accommodations. We stayed in a Junior suite in an annex building on the grounds for $105 per night. The room had a queen size bed and twin with trundle. We are a family with a five and eight year old children and they were happy. The queen bed was comfortable and I especially liked the down comforter. The bathroom was nice and the room has an electric tea pot and cups. Breakfast was included in the rate and it was perfect; a fruit plate starter, choice of bread, delicious homemade granola that you must try and choice of eggs. It was just right. The main house had a wonderful recreation room with a pool table, pig pong table and tv sitting area. A sitting room outside the dining area had games and books. I looked at the master suite in the main house and noted that it would be the perfect place to stay next visit!
Wilberth was excellent at giving us directions on where to visit, tour and dine. La Paz woterfall gardens was a fabulous full day excursion that shouldn't be missed. He suggested a restaurant nearby that is owned by a Frenchman and it was excellent! Sorry, I forget the name of the restaurant...
The lodge is located on an operating dairy farm. You can participate in the daily milking, if you choose.
This is an excellent place to stay for a relaxing start or end of a Costa Rican vacation. I highly recommend it and will be returning myself.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in Oct. 2005 at the beginning of our vacation. The place is really beautiful. We had a junior suite, both bedroom and bathroom were quite large. There are some wonderful walking trails around the lodge. The breakfast included both hot and cold items such as cereal, fruit, toast, eggs, ham, bacon, etc. The staff was friendly and gave us some good recomendations of area restaurants. They were also able to give us a discount for the La Paz waterfall gardens. We would definitely stay here again.

We started our vacation in Costa Rica on July 22nd at the Poas Volcano Lodge. What a wonderful place to start our beautiful journey! We arrived there at 3 in the afternoon which gave us plenty of time to explore the trails around the lodge. In the evening, we sat in the game room in front of a fireplace with a warming fire! How relaxing! The staff there took care of our every need. We then went to sleep in cozy rooms, and woke up to a delicious breakfast. They also gave us a great discount to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, thank you Poas Volcano Lodge!

“A Good Spot”

We stayed 2 nights in here in March 05. There's not so many rooms. Some are located in the main house, but the nicest are located in a seperate block. These are brand new and are beautiful. Because we changed our itinerary, we stayed one night in one of these new Junior Suites, and once night in the house. The room in the house was fine if a bit small and it also shared a bathroom with another room. The Junior Suite was beautiful. Huge room with a fantastic en suite. This place is right on the edge of the cloud forest so expect it to feel damp when you get into your room.

The staff were all very helpful especially Lilly and Gilberto.

The lodge itself features some great communal areas to spend time in during the cold misty afternoons after Poas Volcano Park closes. There's the lounge which has a great big fireplace and faces onto the back of the property where bird watchers are in for a treat. There's a good porch on the back where you can perch yourself to take in the sights. Downstairs there's a huge games room with a pool table, table tennis table and another fireplace with sofas.

The lodge server breakfast and evening meals. Both are excellent. The breakfast is generally included in the room rate and is superb with fresh fruit, bread, granola and a choice of cooked breakfast. The evening meal was a 3 course affair and again was very good.

It's a 15 minute drive to either La Paz or the volcano itself and about 45 mins from the airport.

Overall we were very pleased with our stay here. It's by no means the cheapest, but sometimes you get what you pay for!
