“Poas Stay 11/2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Great price, Great food, Great view. My wife and I stayed here last Sunday night. Mark and Oliver are great hosts and made us feel at home with a warm fire in the main lodge, blankets to stay cozy and the feel of home away from home. Poas lodge has a cool, chill vibe at a great price. 5-Star food, 3-Star room, 10-Star view. Dinner, Breakfast and one night stay for $85.00
you can't beat it !!

Thank you for your positive review of Poas Lodge, we are very pleased to know you enjoyed your stay with us.
We know that many guests have late flights into SJO and so we ask guests to let us know of late arrivals in advance. When we are aware of late arrivals we can plan accordingly and be prepared to serve meals after the kitchen closes. We are always happy to provide a meal after hours to ensure our guests go to bed satisfied and well fed!
We are also happy you enjoyed our linens. We use only 100% cotton sheets to ensure our guests have an excellent nights sleep.
Greetings from Girl!

A very nice stay for our first night in Costa Rica... we booked the hotel online, and per instructions regarding late arrivals (after 2000L), I emailed the hotel a few days before to let them know, and in their response the owners offered to leave dinner out for us, which we gladly accepted. When we arrived, we were shown to our room, which had an amazing view overlooking San Jose and the surrounding areas. The room was nicely furnished and the bed and linens were the most comfortable out of our two week trip in CR. The small, clean private bath was adequate (no issues with hot water or water pressure).

We then went upstairs to the open lounging/great room, where we ordered dinner, which was delicious and cooked for us despite the late hour (arrived around 2100L). Ambience in the great room is very nice and relaxing, with clean furnishings, comfy couches and throws, as well as games and books. The entire room is lined with large windows, so you get a panoramic view of the valley below. The resident pup here is a very sweet little girl, named Girl. The coziness of this room, and the sweeping views over the mountain, are what we liked best (of course, the owners and other guests made it a very nice experience).

We parked our rental directly outside the lodge, there appeared to be 4-5 parking spots. No issues leaving it there overnight. The next morning, we had breakfast and then we were able to drive about five minutes to Poas Volcano, allowing us to beat the tourist rush and arrived exactly as it opened.

We felt very at home - thanks to the owners. Highly recommended!

We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Poas Lodge for a couple of nights in October 2012. Our room was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view and a very active hummingbird feeder right outside our window. The sitting area in our room allowed us to sit and watch the hummingbirds flitter around and the mist roll in and out of the valley below. We were also just minutes from the Poas Volcano. In inn keepers were friendly and accommodating, making us feel at home; right down to the delicious home cooked meals in the restaurant. I would highly recommend the Poas Lodge and Restaurant.

October is still the wet season, so clouds, rain and fog are not unexpected. Luckily the view was the only thing to suffer in our stay at Poas Lodge. Hosts Mark and Oliver made our stay comfortable and conversation interesting. Dinner and breakfast as good as I could want or need, well prepared, basic fare. Comfortable bed in a room that could have afforded a million dollar view if the clouds had cooperated. We were treated to glimpses every once in a while of the valley upon the edge of which we were perched. Bathroom more basic than might be expected, linens clean and fresh. Great local coffee in room, television and wifi signals strong. Value priced using a Tripadvisor special, dinner and wine extra, still very reasonable.
Very convenient to the Poas Volcano and the Doka coffee plantation.
Rooms are not fully accessible, our room was half way down a staircase without rails, with complicated negotiation required off the staircase to the hall, which could present a problem to those with mobility or vision problems.

Thank you for taking the time to review Poas Lodge.
We always take guest comments seriously and we use them to improve the lodge and our service. We are always making improvements and have budgeted for a handrail and extra lighting on the stairs.
Our bathrooms are basic and we provide a hot shower, fresh towels, soap and shampoo and clean sanitary ware. Since we took over the lodge our main priority was ensuring the bathrooms had plenty of hot water. Now that we are more established we can work towards having the older bathrooms updated.
We hope that on your next stay with us you will have very clear views!

Really good experience despite the rainy weather, they make you feel at home. good food (breakfast and dinner). The owner is a british guy passioned about costa rica, he rebuilt the place after an earthquacke destroyed it almost fully.

Mark and Oliver are wonderful hosts, excellent cooks and made our evening at the Poas Lodge very special. If you love hummingbirds, they have an attractive garden and many feeders. We took some excellent pictures. A warm fire and delicious glass of wine made for a very special stay. The next morning, it was a very short trip to Poas Volcano National Park with an excellent view and a lovely walk through the cloud forest.
