4 of traveled and stayed together for a girls trip. The room was beautiful, showers were worked well, hot water and water pressure both excellent. The thing that stands out most of all in addition to the accomodations, is the people. The employees are all absolutely fantastic. Francisco, Jonathan and everyone we came across was very welcoming. They all spoke excellent English. Our Spanglish was embarrassing here, becuase everyone spoke english fluently. The only thing I could comment on about this place that was not perfect was the demarcations of the room numbers. The plants are so big and plentifull, that they obstruct the signs for the room numbers. The hotel is a bit pricey, but nice none the less. They have free internet access and provide 4 laptops in the lobby for guests to use. Quick internet and helpful staff. Jonathan helped me upload some photos for my family back home.

I found Arenal Nayara via Tripadvisor. As usual, Tripadvisor did me right! This was a wonderful hotel that truly enhanced our great trip in Costa Rica. We arrived at Nayara via a drive from SJO airport (and after a 5 hour flight from Newark). We were tired and felt dirty. However, we were immediately perked up when we entered the lovely lobby to check-in and were greeted by such pleasant staff that offered us each a glass of fruit juice and a damp, rolled washcloth for our hands/face. So nice! We checked in quickly and then we were taken by golf cart to our car to so they could bring our bags to the room. (You can't drive up to your room, but it doesn't matter -- it's a quick walk to your car at all times, but only a golfcart can drive through the grounds).

Our room (#18) was fantastic! The patio with hot tub had a view of the volcano. We used the hot tub twice and it was magnificent. Being able to view the volcano, but also the gorgeous plants and flowers on the grounds was so relaxing. The room itself was huge (only minor complaint was that it was 2 beds, not 1, but very minor). The shower is huge, and through the shower you can walk out to an outdoor shower too. A very quick walk from #18 to the restaurant and lobby, and it was right outside the pool/pool bar, so a great location.

The hotel offers a free complimentary breakfast buffet every day that is no joke! It has anything you could want, including an omelet station, and the staff at the restaurant is so nice. We also dined at the restaurant for dinner one night, and the food was pretty good, although it certainly isn't cheap. I think we spent ~$100+ for dinner and a bottle of wine. However, while dining, an owner of the hotel came through to chat with us and ask us how we heard of the hotel and offered to buy us a glass of wine. That was a nice touch!!

There is free wireless and also use of 3 laptops in the lobby if you so desire. Of course the staff offered to plan excursions, but we had already pre-planned much of our time there so didn't take advantage of it.

What more is there to say but STAY HERE! You will not be disappointed.

This is a beautiful hotel with many amenities and excellent service. Each room is an amazing experience--hot tub on the private balcony, indoor and outdoor shower, luxurious bedding and towels, waking up to bird songs. There is a wine bar, and an excellent restaurant on the premises. Service was consistently excellent. You can see Arenal Volcano from the property. It is just beautiful. I recommend this hotel very highly.

I have never before written a review of a hotel, but I felt compelled to do so this time, simply because our experience at Arenal Nayara was so wonderfully unique. My husband and I spent the first half of our Costa Rica trip at Nayara (4 nights), and our stay was perfect from the moment we arrived. After a long travel day from Los Angeles followed by a windy 3 hour drive from San Jose, we were feeling more than a little motion sick and just wanted to get into a room and sleep. However, the moment we sat down at the check-in counter our tension slipped away, as we were greeted with cold washcloths for our faces, fresh fruit juice, and smiles from the friendly staff. Our mood was further lifted by the beautiful, well-manicured hotel grounds and the magnificent room that should really have been called a suite. A gorgeous four poster bed sat atop gleaming bamboo floors, and it faced a large deck flanked with a hammock, two chairs, and a private jacuzzi tub. The unobstructed view of the volcano was breathtaking and the total privacy offered by the lush jungle landscape was unexpected. To top it all off, the room also included a back patio with an outdoor shower.

The exquisite room was not the only highlight of our stay at Arenal Nayara. The breakfast buffet (included in the room price!) was delicious and varied from day to day, and the themed dinners at the hotel restaurant were fun and tasty as well. Also, the high tech wine bar was a treat and we enjoyed dispensing the wine (just push a button to select a taste, half glass or full glass, all charged to the room) as much as we enjoyed drinking it.

Above all, it was the staff that made our stay at Nayara so pleasant. Although there are only 25 casitas on the property, there was never a shortage of smiling, helpful employees to help us book a tour, find a cab, or mix up a delicious pina colada. I cannot recommend Arenal Nayara Hotel highly enough, and I'm picky! If forced to make one complaint, it would only be that our casita (#25) was right next to a cow pasture and the smell outside of our door was not always pleasant. However, I'm quite sure that this problem was exclusive to our room, as we were on the very edge of the property and only noticed it in that one spot. It was a small price to pay for the luxury, privacy, and exceptional service we enjoyed our entire time there.

Tip: If you visit this area, take the Sky Tram/Sky Trek zip-line tour! It's exhilarating.

My family stayed here for one night during a cross country tour of Costa Rica. Unfortunately, this is the place where we should have stayed the longest while on vacation and the place that we want to go back to! The room itself was fantastic. The outdoor shower was heavenly along with the jacuzzi on the verandah with a stunning view of Arenal volcano. The colors & furniture used throughout the decor was the most beautiful combination. The whole atmosphere of the hotel & gardens was extremely calming and serene. The open air restaurant and property are exceptional along with the pool/hot tub/pond and swim-up bar. This hotel is truly a gem and the experience was like no other for us. Kudos to the staff/management!!! We hope to be back soon!!!

My wife and I just stayed for 3 nights as part of a getaway (we left the 3 kids behind in Milwaukee. Our travel agent suggested the hotel. There are approximatel 20 stand alone rooms and they appear to be building another 20. They have one restaurant a new wine bar (it is almost electronic in which you enter you card to have the machine pour you a 1/2 or full glass or sample which is then charged to your room). They also have a small to mid-size pool with a bar. The property is beatiful and the rooms are very nice. The room has an outdoor shower with a bit of roof extending over it. It also has an outdoor bathtub with a curtain but not as private. Since there are no kids allowed and only 20 rooms it was pretty quiet. At some meals there were only 3-4 other tables with people at the restaurant. The concierge (Jonathan) was able to set up tours for us. We went to the Sky Trem/Sky Trek (zipline - it was amazing), tour of the La Fortuna waterfall (fun but and exhausting hike down and up many many stories of stairs - and I am in fairly good shape), the Arenal Volcano tour and Hot Springs at Tabicon.

If I had to nitpick about the hotel - the breakfast was included and was nice but boring after a few days (omlette station, cereals, pancakes, Costa Rican food). The indoor shower smelled like sulfur (rotten eggs) so I showed outside. The bathroom sink and counter are beatiful but water splashes all over the counter from bouncing off the sink. None of these diminshed out stay but would make me give it an A- vs an A+. Finally I had read on TripAdvisor about the construction - so we asked for a room away from it. They probably couldn't have put us much closed. There was little construction and it seemed to start after we were awake - but nonetheless - they didn't adhere to our request.

I would recommend the hotel and I don't think having 20 additional rooms will overcrowd the place.

Finally - the rainy season in Arenal is January to March according to one of our guides. Most web sites say Costa Rica's rainy season is over. It was so cloudy every day that you could barely see the volcano (which the hotel would have a great view of). Also it rained most days every day (although often very light rain). The hotel has umbrellas everywhere and we did all our tours with ponchos. It was also chilly (mid - 60s). Our guide had a winter hat and gloves.

Also, I wouldn't consider myself a food snob but the food in the Arenal area was average. Even the top restaurant Don Rufino that everyone recommended was good but not great. The lunch/dinner at the hotels were just above average but not fanstastic.

The hotel had free wi-fi in the lobby, restaurant and wine bar. I downloaded Skype on my iPhone and paid $12.95 for a month to make free calls back to the US. This beat the $2/per minute from AT&T.

After here we went to Manuel Antonio to the Gaia for 4 nights in the sun near the beach and 80 degree weather.
