“A memorable vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012 via mobile

Loved the staff at this hotel which made our trip memorable for our engagement! Rooms were clean and the view was amazing! Some rooms have better views than others. Rooms are small duplex condos eac with one room and bathroom and two beds. The wifi worked well all over the property and was free. The food was excellent and sometimes meals were sit down and some were buffet

The location is 10 minutes or so from town so you have to take the hotel shUttle to town it is $12 and a taxi ride back is $10. The egological park is a 15 minute walk down the end of the hotels driveway and is a good tour for $30 a person I would recommend it! There is a regular pool and a hot spring pool on the property. Happy hour 5-6 pm 2 for 1 drinks

This property is absolutely mesmerizing. Seated at the foot of the Volcano region, it is covered by lush manicured grounds. We stayed 2 nights and wanted to extend for a week but our group had to move on.

The hotel is made up of individual casitas along a winding road. Each casita has 2 individual large rooms that can be considered Junior Suites. The bathroom is large and has a large plant dividing the shower and the other amenities. Nice touch. The best part is the large glass sliding doors that cover just about the entire wide side of the room. Open the drapes and find the most breathtaking view of the lush grounds and the volcano. We were there on a clear day and the view was incredible. The room also has a patio with table and chairs set up so that you may enjoy the wild life in the lush rain forest grounds while having your morning coffee.

The restaurant is “al fresco” opened and surrounded by nature. The food is excellent and the staff very attentive to your needs. We ate dinner and breakfast. The food was very well prepared and gave a local taste.

The property has 2 pools with swim up bars. The pool is filled with thermal waters and is the ultimate relaxation spot. We were there in the afternoon and evening and we “owned” the pool and the hot tub as no one else was around. Amazing.

Front desk staff was very helpful and ready to pick you and return you to your room in a golf cart if you need it. The hotel offers free Wifi but there is free computer use and internet in the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the 200's facing the volcano. We had room 226.

So far we love our stay here at Hotel Manoa. Room is spacious, comfortable, very clean, with a great view! Wifi is free, and I've been able to stay connected while walking throughout the premises. Two pools, one with swim-up bar and grill, the other is fed by natural hot spring. Everyone is so nice, and the whole resort feels peaceful and surrounded by nature. I cannot speak to the value b/c we booked this as a part of a Groupon with Desafio Adventures. So far, the overall value of that package (Desafio + Hotel Manoa) has been outstanding!

The views from your room and the grounds are spectacular! Arenal is a beautiful part of Costa Rica that's a must see. Staff was also attentive. Downside was beds were hard and it's a taxi ride to town. Because we were a family of 5, Manoa's restaurant was a bit pricey. We took tours that included meals or ended later in the day, had driver drop us in town, ate, and then only had to pay for taxi back instead of both ways.

Well this will be my second review ever giving an excellent rating. Hotel Arenal Manoa and it's beautifully landscaped property offers hummingbirds galore, a spectacular view of the Arenal volcano, and delicious meal options including a wonderful breakfast buffet. The flowers on the property were brilliant and continuously attracting hummingbirds all day long while the views of Arenal were wonderful.

We stayed 3 nights in this expansive property (they have a shuttle if you need to get to the lobby plus the restaurant and spa is in the middle of property so fairly close to all) and loved every moment. Rooms are huge, A/C works great, bathroom is beautiful complete with skylight and real plants, all rooms have a huge picture window and a nice porch/sitting are out front of the room. (pictures will be added)

Every time we went in or out we were greeted (or scolded) by hummingbirds and other little local birds feeding on the flowers.

Staff was wonderfully helpful and polite especially during the busy breakfast.

Right around the corner (literally to the end of the driveway do not even go onto the main road turn and take the other fork of the driveway) is a horseback riding stable. 3 of us took this trip and rode up the volcano to an overlook of Iris Lake. Horses were well taken care of, treated well and clean. We very much enjoyed it. My sister was picked up and taken to a horseback trip that went to La Fortuna Falls. Not for those who have difficulty with stairs... 400 down must also be 400 back up!! But she said they were very professional, learned everyone's name and kept the horses in line nicely. True caballeros, she said!

I booked a bird watching tour from the hotel as well and it was wonderful. Included breakfast and since it was just me, had my own private guide to see some of the local birds. We saw so many I can not even begin to remember their names. I believe red lored parrots(?) a cuckoo squirrel (yes it is a bird), and brilliant tanagers to mane some. Sadly I never got to see a toucan our entire trip. However, found the little green frog with the red eyes and blue legs...spectacular!!!

The pool was located next to the restaurant and we figured that out too late to enjoy it all our days. There is even a swim up bar where you can order drinks or food while sitting in the water!
There is a zero entry that gets progressively deeper and a shallower side for kids. The hot tub is separate but right there as well and this all faces a beautiful mountain range.

Perhaps the most exciting activity we did here was Skyadventures sky tram and zipline tour. WOW...thrilling and amazing jungle scenery. This was not slow moving look around in the trees..this was fast, fun, look around and get ready to put on your breaks at the end. Too bad it is a one time through and done. Two of us were not exactly happy with heights and did well regardless. Guides were engaging, professional and encouraging. We had SO much fun.
We also took an afternoon hike up Arenal (I suggest NOT taking anything in the afternoon after 2pm when the storm clouds roll in during the wet season. This excursion we had was dark, wet, muddy and not as enjoyable as it could have been...worth the tour but just not late in the day) Hapily though this excursion included dinner and hot springs at Ecothermales. DEFINITELY find some hot springs!! I hear Tabacon (spelled?) has the best hot springs plus spa treatments but is very expensive. Unless you are looking to spend a lot for that, check out Ecotermales).

There are a lot of hotels we saw coming into this area. For our hotel, the huge clean rooms, stunningly beautiful grounds, friendly staff and great location, I give this hotel a great rating. I would definitely stay here again!!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of Arenal Volcano. If you want to be close to the restaurant or the lobby, ask for th...

We bought a Groupon and the Arenal Manoa was one of the hotels we had to choose from out of like 10 hotels. We are so glad we picked this one! The grounds were immaculate, all the rooms face the volcano and had large sliding glass doors that lead out onto your own private patio. The staff was amazing! They were all so friendly and helpful. We will miss them all! They have 2 pools and one of them is fed by the hot springs and has a swim up bar. We spent nearly every night soaking our sore muscles after a day of adventures. Eddie the bartender makes awesome drinks and is very friendly. The food is wonderful! Every place we stayed in Costa Rica had incredible food. You have to try the Mamon chino and a mango stino if you get a chance. There are hummingbirds everywhere at the Manoa! We miss it already. Thanks for making our stay a relaxing and memorable experience. Love from Lubbock, TX

We have been to Costa Rica four times to travel to different parts of the country because it is all so beautiful and diverse, we had stayed in the Arenal area before but the hotels were never as good as this one. The grounds are lovely and expansive (this could be a downside if you don't like to walk too much, but there are also little shuttles you can take). It has an amazing view of the volcano and the rooms are perfectly pleasant and clean. We took the Skytrek zipline tour nearby and it is a must-do, highly recommend! Though I am scared of heights, the guides made it fun and we felt very safe, and the views were breathtaking! Also, try the hot springs at night, it is an out-of-this-world experience!
