“Private cabins with a great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

These properties were suggested to us by 2 other travelers. We enjoyed our stay as it was a bit out of town (10 minute walk), quiet and with a beautiful view of volcan Arenal. The cabins were clean, had hot water, air con and free wifi. The pool was great even though it rained for most of our stay and breakfast was included. The owners helped us book all of our adventures and transporation as well.

We stayed 3 nights at the Villas Vista Arenal and really enjoyed out visit. The cabins are kept clean and have air conditioning- which is nice. The pool with a view of the volcano was a nice amenity to enjoy. Breakfast is included, with 3 choices (which is very typical as most hostels)- Tipico, Americano or Continental. Loved the pineapple jam that came with the Americano option... but also loved the fried plantains from the Tipico option. One of the property managers- Hyner (?not sure how to spell his name) was extremely helpful in giving us tips of what to do and booking the hanging bridges tour. He was very accommodating to all of our many questions, and treated us great. The landscaping surrounding each cabin was beautiful made the cabins more private. The front porch provided a great place to sit and watch the many different birds as well.
The location is about a 1 mile walk from the center of town, in the direction of the volcano. It felt much closer than we expected, and we were able to walk into town each day for dinner. It's slightly uphill walk- but not anything too difficult (as I was able to make the walk and I am 31 wks pregnant). The rooms were spacious, and the showers had hot water. The beds were a bit hard- but that is quite typical of South America. I brought a camp sleeping pad on the trip just in case- and that helped. Each room has a refrigerator which was nice to have for our drinks. If you don't like bugs, be aware that there are small little caterpillar worms that come inside each night. They don't bother you, but can be gross if you accidentally step on one in the middle of the night.
One thing the room did not have was a safe- which would have been nice to have. Overall we always felt safe, but it would have been nice to leave our passports and other valuables in a safe during our day trips.
This is a wonderful place to stay, and a very reasonable price. We would come back again!

Pros:
The cabins were clean, beautiful surroundings, birds, hummingbirds passing by when you sit on your porch
Great views of the volcano...you can actually see the Arenal Volcano from some of the cabins. They offer laundry service.
Great location if you want to walk to the town of Santa Elena. We did, for the New Year's Eve celebration in the main plaza of the town.
Breakfast was good.
Swimming Pool

Cons:
I does rain a lot in that region and the parking space was really muddy. To get to the front door of the cabin we had to walk through mud.
No safe box in the rooms.
Not really the best place if you want to spend the whole day in your room. It's a very affordable option if all you want is a place to sleep after all your outdoor activities in the area.

My husband and I stayed here and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was clean, safe, included a very good breakfast, and was in an excellent location. We did not have a car but were close enough to walk into town for meals etc. but took taxi to Baldi to use the hot springs.
We would have no trouble staying here again or recommending to others.

It's my very first all 5star-rating! (May be I've been a bit lucky, too.)

Nice cabins located in beautiful garden-like surroundings with perfect view to the volcano.
Animals, birds, hummingbirds passing by when you sit on your veranda and enjoy...
All cabins seem newly renovated, offer very clean room and bathroom, AC, fridge, TV, table and chairs on a little veranda.
The place also offers a free breakfast, a small pool, a cheap and basic restaurant onsite and good wireless connection in all cabins.
It's well professionally family run, what you will love as soon as you have a wish.
All this for small money (we've been here in low season), just slightly more than the hostels nearby

Only small cons:
Tours offered and the laundry service seems a bit more expensive than at competitors.
There could be more light in the room (only a small lightbulb)

We opted to not rent a car in Costa Rica and the location of this hotel was great - about a 7-10 minute walk to town meant that we could get food anytime we wanted but didn't have to deal with the traffic and noise that comes with La Fortuna. We even hiked all the way to the La Fortuna waterfall one day. Now, we are the kind of people that enjoy "rustic" accommodations, but I was not expecting to have a faucet with a broken hot water knob or pillows that felt like they were stuffed with newspaper. Breakfast was not memorable, though the tico-style breakfast was significantly better than the American one. I paid $65 cash and had asked for a larger cabin but was given a smaller one, so it seems like the room rates are assessed randomly.

What a find off the main road. I have not stayed in the area before so not sure how the hotel compares to others. Pro: Great price, view of volcano and lake from front deck of hotel. Friendly staff and owner. Hiking trail outside of room. Cons-Food is ok, but maybe it's just me.

Please drive the extra kilometers to enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
