Everything from beginning to end was FANTASTIC! Before I arrived I emailed the hotel several times with questions and requests and I always had a response within 48 hours. The hotel arranged transportation for us from San Jose to El Silencio as well as to other cities in Costa Rica. The transportation was great!
Upon our arrival we were greeted with refreshing, delicious passion fruit drinks. The staff members were also welcoming and took their time to explain to us where things were located, prices for taxis, and tours that we were interested in. Once we were ready to book a tour he made the call and got everything set up for us.
The hotel's grounds are BEAUTIFUL and extremely clean!! Flowers, trees, and wildlife everywhere. There is a small farm at the hotel which you are allowed to visit. My daughter and I got up early one morning and helped milk a cow. My daughter was ecstatic! She also got to sit on a horse and feed some chickens. If you are around in the late morning you can help collect the chicken eggs. This leads me to the breakfast and food in general.
The eggs were the best! You could taste how fresh they were. I buy organically "fresh" farm eggs at home, but those are nothing like these. Yum!! Honestly, all the food was fantastic. We were a group of 5 so we got to try several different meals. the Chicken and Rice was delicious, the sandwiches, burrito (its *not* a Mexican burrito), even the quesadilla was great. All the drinks were yummy and the man working the bar was very friendly. For the included breakfast you can pick among a few different items. Fruit, juice, and coffee are included with anything you get. I would also recommend you order tortillas and sour cream. These are not on the menu, but you can still get them with your breakfast. The sour cream is not like the one in the USA, it is much better. So Yummy!!!
The cottages are lovely. They are big, very clean, comfortable beds, and great AC. We had two different rooms. One of them was the Jacuzzi room, #19 which was super romantic. I would highly recommend it! All the rooms have robes.
The hot springs were pure beauty and tranquility. It felt like a piece of paradise. There are about 6, although one of them is a Jacuzzi. All of them were very clean. The Jacuzzi among the springs appeared to have jets, but I couldn't figure out how to turn them on. The bar is located next to the largest hot spring. You do need to go to the bar to order, but if you would like to eat your food or have your drink at the springs the bartender will bring it to you.
The hotel also has a pool and another Jacuzzi next to the pool.
Make sure to walk around the grounds several times. Each walk we went on we discovered new wildlife. Don't miss the beautiful lily pads near the lobby.
The WiFi worked GREAT! Both in the rooms and at the bar.
We did not get a chance to try the spa out. We were here for only two nights.
We stayed at the end of December and got very lucky with the weather. From what we were told it is normally rainy during that time, but we didn't get any rain. In fact, we were able to see the whole volcano. It completely cleared and we saw the entirety of it.
At this time the volcano is dormant. That was a bit disappointing. For some reason I didn't realize this before leaving on the trip, but please don't let that keep you away. The volcano is beautiful to see and the walks are nice as well. I guess there is more than one area to walk near the volcano and hopefully see monkeys and such. We decided to go to the first entrance which we were told we had a better chance to see anything and we did! We came across a family of about 12 monkeys. Amazing!!
I would also recommend the safari rafting. We did the suspension bridge tour as well and though it was beautiful we really didn't see much wildlife.
I will attach photos of the rooms and grounds so please take a look.
I hope you enjoy your future stay!
From what I could see all the rooms looked nice. #19, the Jacuzzi room is very romantic. If that'...
