Except for the ugly monstrosity of a hotel next door which appears to represent the future disneyfication of La Fortuna/Arenal, we loved pretty well everything about El Silencio. Each room is a spacious cabin with a roomy shower and good beds. Minor complaint on the beds is that they l(ike every other hotel with the exception of only two hotels where we stayed (Posada el Quijote and Issimo Suites) had flimsy small pillows. Beautiful gardens, a lovely view of Volcan Arenal (when it chooses to show itself). A nice pool and extra bonus a hot springs pool at the back of the property (my wife and daughter did encounter a small red snake in the pool which cut their hot springs time short but that is nature and why you are in Costa Rica). There was a bar by the pool.
Great breakfasts, wonderful hosts and servers, tours arranged, Tiki the chihuahua and the parrot all made our 4 days wonderful.
El Silencio is what La Fortuna can and should be at its best. Magic Mountain and whatever the thing next door will be called are not.

  • Liked — The spacious accommodation, the wonderful gardens and the warm people
  • Disliked — the monstrosity next door.

After a grueling 8-hour drive from Dominical, on the coast of Costa Rica, we were greeted with smiles, fresh papaya juice, and a happy little dance from adorable resident chihuahua, Tiki. The tension just melted away instantly, and we were smitten. By far the best place we've ever stayed. We had cabin #15, at the far end of the property, which was closest to the on-campus hot springs and the charming duck pond, and offered the most privacy. We fell asleep to the chirping of frogs--a very nice respite from our daily life in NYC, where we fall asleep to sirens! The cabins are unexpectedly roomy and well-appointed. The breakfast was terrific. The location proved to be a perfect mid-way point between the many activities available in the area. ***Another recommendation is to visit Eco-Termales Hot Springs, which is across the street from the garish Baldi Springs. It's hidden behind an unmarked wooden door/gate, and I believe it has some connection with the hotel.

Just returned from a three-night stay in Arenal. The property is beautiful and consists of 15-16 separate cabins with great views of the volcano (non-lava side). The rooms are immaculate and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We also loved the private hot springs at the rear of the property! Highly recommend this location.

  • Liked — Staff, cleanliness, location
  • Disliked — No lava view at night :(

Hotel Silencio del Campo exceeded everyone of our already lofty expectations. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and the landscaping was beautiful. Breakfast in the morning was awesome! The restaurant treats you like like it is a 5-star establishment but with 1-star prices. Make sure to use the on-site hot springs...there is no need to pay to go to one of the expensive other ones. Great stay, great people, great service.

After much research using Trip Advisor, I selected this hotel for our time at Arenal. I was really nervous because we had a really bad experience with a rent a car agency and didn't want the bad luck to follow us to Arenal. As we pulled in I felt myself slowly exhale and smile. The staff was unbelievable. Everyone was so pleasant. The owner Don Diego was always available and made sure everyone was happy and attended to and his daughter was is a tremendous resource to all the guests. The restaurant is super clean and the food is fantastic. The hotel has a pool which looked wonderful but we didn't have time to enjoy during the day. However, the hotel also has a thermal hot spring pool on the property that is amazing to swim in after a long day. The property itself is beautiful. All of the cabins are surrounded by beautiful gardens that are tended to daily. The cabins are incredibly clean and spacious which was great because there were 5 of us and we fit perfectly in one cabin. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. It was a perfect stay and it gets 5 stars from us!
