“Private cabin, excellent service, GREAT hotsprings!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

My Fiance and I stayed at Silencio for the first few days of our Costa Rican vacation this December. After reading all of the rave TripAdvisor reviews, this place did NOT disappoint!

First, the service: After having a hard time with flight schedules on the way to Costa Rica, Elio at Silencio rearranged all of our excursions and activities on the spot. They were nothing but helpful and responsive at all times, by phone and by e-mail. We scheduled a Canyoneering tour through Desafio (aaaamazing - highly recommend) and Elio gave a discount for booking through the hotel. He was just great.

The grounds are clean, quaint and well-maintained. The highlight is absolutely the hot springs on the property. We had originally planned to go to the Eco Termales hot springs one evening, but ended up canceling dur to the secluded springs on the property.

We were pleased with the food choices. There are traditional Costa Rican dishes, as well as others for the more picky eaters (pancakes, quesadillas, burgers, etc).

Room Tip: The higher #, the more secluded you are. All are great, as the lower #'s are closer to reception...

This was a return trip to this hotel, having last been there 2 or 3 years ago. They have updated their thermal pools and built a new spa on the other side of the duck pond. All are great improvements, and we loved staying in their new pools, rather than going to Baldi or Tabacon. Restaurant food has also improved for dinner. Cabinas are still the same charming places to stay. Overall, a big thumbs up!

Room Tip: Try to stay at one of the cabinas back from the road to avoid street noise.

Loved staying here, except for the rain. The separate units were comfortable, well maintained and having your own little patio was very nice.

The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The grounds were well kept and very nice - loved the hot springs and spa.

The breakfast was only average, but all the other meals we ate here were very good and the wait staff terrific.

We were a family of 3 traveling to Arenal/La Fortuna in Dec 23-26 2012. For a while we debated between AOL (Arenal Obs Lodge) and this hotel but finally decided on this one because of the proximity to La Fortuna.

The service was great here, the staff was very helpful with anything we needed from directions, planning our activities, etc. The villa we stayed at was comfortable. The first night the hot water ran out too fast, after that we complained and they fixed it and it improved but it never got quite as hot as I wanted it (but I like really really hot water though, so for most people it is sufficient). Breakfast was good and the hotel grounds was beautiful, I like the location and easy access to town, Baldi thermal springs is just right next door.

Bottom line is I liked the location & service best. The room was good. If you use the thermal pools that they have in the hotel then I'd say you got the bang for your buck. But for us we packed our days full of activities and preferred to go to Tabacon anyways. We paid 190/night and I felt that better value can be found somewhere else if you dont plan to use the hot springs.

This hotel has perfect and nature surroundings.
The "natural" fountain also helped to our relaxing atmosphere.
Breakfast not so much, as we didn´t find anything else besides what all the restaurants in Costa Rica offers.
Confortable bed and nice jacuzzi.

Room Tip: The apartments next to the fountain are the more calm ones.

My family and I stayed here over the busy Christmas week and found it to be a great base for our stay near Lake Areanl. Calling it a hotel is misleading. There are separate buildings for each room or cabina scattered throughout the well maintained and beautifully landscaped campo. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They went out of there way to find a local restaurant that was still serving tamales on Christmas day. The hidden gem here is their own restaurant which serves both interesting local dishes as well as more international fare.

My wife and me stayed here for 3 nights and we absolutely love every minute we spent staying at this lovely property. Before I booked the hotel I spent signifficant amount of time reading Tripadvisor and Booking reviews, so I was kind of ready for a good place, but after spending 3 nights there we are almost feel that this was one of the best places we ever stayed in our world travels. Eliomar Marcia at the front desk was very big initial decision on my part to stay at this hotel. I sent quite a few e-mail with various travel questions regarding Arenal sites and activities. Eliomar perfectly responded on every question I had. While we stayed at this hotel we absolutely loved breakfast, watching birds while eating breakfast, Arenal volcano views from the property and absolutely lovely hot springs. We used hot springs every single day as it gave us that special nature feeling. Room itself also was great and besides breakfast we ate excellent dinner one night. I just can't think of one single item at this hotel that I could say "it could be better". Everything was GREAT at this place.
