“Two families with 4 teens LOVED El Silencio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

I am a seasoned traveler with relatively high standards and I cannot recommend this property enough. The on-line photos do not do justice to the grounds, spa, hot springs, flora and fauna, not to mention the volcano views! Special shout out to Aileen and Larson for their hospitality. Gianna for massage is not to be missed. Food was delicious, plentiful, fresh as can be, and local. We thought the hotel would be simply a launching point but our teens could not wait to get back in the afternoons to lounge in the hot springs and have smoothies at the bar. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Al our rooms were the same and they were perfect.

I had read many good things about this hotel when doing research for our CR trip. My partner had originally wanted to stay at the Arenal Observatory Lodge because his friend told him that it was close to the volcano. When I found this place, I talked him out of that, saying that a lot of the tour groups charge a lot extra just to pick you up, because I had a feeling that this was the place we needed to stay at. I was no wrong at all! The fact that they have their own hot springs available for guest to use was the biggest drawing point, but there were tons more. Eliomar and the staff at the front were extremely friendly and accommodating at all times! The breakfast that was included was delicious and fresh. The view of the volcano was breathtaking! The grounds were clean and beautiful. They even gave us fresh fruit smoothies as we checked in! I can only say positive things about this hotel. I hope to return soon!

There were many positive things about our stay... the employees were all genuinely nice with super clean rooms and nice gardens. The location is right next to Eco-thermales and the disco as well as only 5 minutes from town. Dinner was pretty yummy.

The on-premise "hot spring" was turned off for most of our visits which resulted in a little more than luke warm water. Disappointing. I guess this was due to now being the slow season. Also would have been nice for them to hide the new pool/hot spring construction just a little. They were also obsessive about the towel/ticket policy which borderlined offensive when they accidently gave us extra towels and had requested we bring them all to reception upon check out (as if I was going to immediately put the extras in my suitcase). Wine and ice were not available at 9:30pm which seemed odd for a hotel. For the price and reputation, I expected more. They have too much competition to fall short. I probably won't return.

We absolutely loved waking up and going to breakfast in the morning. The view is exquisite of the volcano. At times we even heard it grumble, which was a little scary. We try to pick hotels that are true to the region and not just a chain hotel with no character. At Hotel El Silencio del Campo you get your own cottage, so cute!! You are right next to the hot springs which is down the street. You can walk, but remember, Costa Rica does not have sidewalks so it's probably safer to drive. My husband found out he had an eye allergy to sulfer. Who knew? The water in the hot springs and in the river, if you go white water rafting has sulfer in it from the volcano. We hope to come back to the resort one day!!

El Silencio del Campo was AMAZING! We love it there very much! The staff members were very friendly and helpful. We were provided with fresh fruit for breakfast everyday. The food for breakfast was awesome! The dinner and lunch menu items were amazing, as well. Umberto was very helpful. He help us with calling for taxi, and book tours. Our unit was #11. We love the unit very much. It fit 4 people very comfortably! We would come back to this site, again. Oh, the hot spring is amazing there. I love the smell of the hot spring.

Nature Paradise! The cottages were beautiful with a jacuzzi on the outside deck and rocking chairs to chill out on. True Costa Rican style. We had dinner in front of the huge stone fireplace. What a setting. The staff was incredible. They could not do enough for us. We hiked to the waterfall, which was breathtaking. We stopped at their very own organic garden which they use at the restaurant. Along the way we learned about plants, flowers, insects and animals. Very interesting.
We also got to go horseback riding. It was fantastic ride through rivers, meadows and a village. Would highly recommend this resort if you love nature and want a restful place, this is it.

Room Tip: All rooms are separate cottages and are all beautiful, huge rooms.
