“Luxury hotel with volcano views.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

We stayed 4 nights in la fortuna. The hotel was very nice! First you entered through a security gate to the property which I liked. You also wear band to identify you as a hotel guest.

The room was clean with great beds and toiletries. We had some ants invade so make sure there is no food laying around! This hotel practices green energy saving practice, it was annoying that the fridge would turn off once we left the room ( the room key turns power on the the room). We ended up asking for 2 hotel keys.

The property is well maintained with a fabulous hot springs pool and swim up bar. Sushi bar too but we didn't try it.

Breakfast ok buffet style. Please cover the fruit!! Flies all over it! Otherwise the other dishes were covered.

The restaurant is expensive and the food is not that good. We drove into town (5 mins away) for cheaper better tasting food.

There is a concierge to help with activity planning.

This is a nice property but the bed was hard as a board and I was told all the beds on the property were that way and there wasn't much they could do. I asked for more bedding so I could layer. Interestingly, the next night I had a thin pad added to our bed by the staff but it didn't help much. At least they tried. The walls were paper thin between the rooms so we could hear everything next door. Needles to say, no romance going on in our room because of this. Good breakfast brunch though!

Room Tip: Hard beds, little privacy with thin walls between rooms.

This resort is beautiful. The birds and flowers are plenty and varied. The hot pools are all over the place with different temperatures to please everyone. There is also a refreshing cold pool. The rooms were big and very cleanl. You get a great view of the volcano from your bed so you can make this the first thing you see when you open your eyes is you keep the curtains open. The sushi restaurant is very nice and the cocktails are yummy at the pool bar. We had to call for service in the room a couple of times and they came right away.

We stayed at this resort during our honeymoon and it was fantastic. Starting from our arrival we felt very pampered. The property is beautiful with lots of birds visiting early morning. Arenal volcano, though dormant, is spectacular and every room has volcano view. It was just breathtaking. They have their own hot springs with bar which were nice and relaxing and not crowded.Tour manager helped us arranging all activities and even gave us some discounts. Rooms are beautiful. Bathrooms have their own little garden. Rooms were clean and very nicely maintained. I wish we stayed here more. The only downside was expensive food but it was nice and we decided to pay them more than paying for cab.

Room Tip: Any room will be perfect

If u visit the country make this a 2 day destination. Remarkable waterfalls direct from the mountain to you. The grounds are manicured and the rooms are beautiful. Be sure to visit the spa as it offers a world class massage service. I believe our couples massage was under a waterfall. It was delightfully relaxing especially with the natural surrounding.

Our family of four traveled here with another family and some friends, and thought the Arenal Springs Resort and Spa offered something for everyone. There are multiple pools, all offering a different water temperature with some supposedly heated by the thermal pools of nearby Arenal Volcano. Water falls and beautiful landscaping are all around the property.

The largest pool has a swim-up bar with nearly endless pina coladas, which magically appear as you waive your color-coded bracelet (obtained at check-in and serves for easy room charges). Next to this, another pool with swim up sushi bar is a bit cooler. Nearby, a super hot pool and a super cold pool allow your shocker of choice, and then there's the gigantic jacuzzi that seats at least 12. The kids loved jumping from pool to pool, as well as running around the expansive lawns and gardens.

The rooms are pretty good, and are all positioned with views of the volcano. Room interiors are okaaayyy, but not fantastic. Needs a little sprucing. Bathrooms are not fab.

And the restaurant is not the greatest. You get breakfast included in your room rate, and it was very good. Dinner, however, was really mediocre. You'd be better off going to town for dinner, because there are several restaurants serving very good local dishes which we really enjoyed.

One thing to note - nothing is close in this area of Costa Rica, so the hotel is a drive away from the nearest town, La Fortuna, and also pretty much every other destination or activity you want to do in this area. But no matter - all the nicer resort hotels have the same issue. The Arenal Springs Resort has an excellent concierge who is willing to set up tours, have drivers arranged, vans from the airport in San Jose, pretty much everything. They made it all really easy and were so pleasant and helpful.

And as all the locals say, Pura Vida!
