“Something for every member of the family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Our family of four traveled here with another family and some friends, and thought the Arenal Springs Resort and Spa offered something for everyone. There are multiple pools, all offering a different water temperature with some supposedly heated by the thermal pools of nearby Arenal Volcano. Water falls and beautiful landscaping are all around the property.

The largest pool has a swim-up bar with nearly endless pina coladas, which magically appear as you waive your color-coded bracelet (obtained at check-in and serves for easy room charges). Next to this, another pool with swim up sushi bar is a bit cooler. Nearby, a super hot pool and a super cold pool allow your shocker of choice, and then there's the gigantic jacuzzi that seats at least 12. The kids loved jumping from pool to pool, as well as running around the expansive lawns and gardens.

The rooms are pretty good, and are all positioned with views of the volcano. Room interiors are okaaayyy, but not fantastic. Needs a little sprucing. Bathrooms are not fab.

And the restaurant is not the greatest. You get breakfast included in your room rate, and it was very good. Dinner, however, was really mediocre. You'd be better off going to town for dinner, because there are several restaurants serving very good local dishes which we really enjoyed.

One thing to note - nothing is close in this area of Costa Rica, so the hotel is a drive away from the nearest town, La Fortuna, and also pretty much every other destination or activity you want to do in this area. But no matter - all the nicer resort hotels have the same issue. The Arenal Springs Resort has an excellent concierge who is willing to set up tours, have drivers arranged, vans from the airport in San Jose, pretty much everything. They made it all really easy and were so pleasant and helpful.

And as all the locals say, Pura Vida!

loved this hotel...staff was super friendly and accomodating. would bring us whatever we needed it and fast! awesome views of the volcano...pool area was very nice and clean. the only negative thing i can say is that the bathroom and showers need a small update. other than that it was an amazing stay, great sized rooms and very clean.

This resort was beautiful. The grounds were immaculate and the flowers were like nothing I had ever seen. We were lucky to see the top of Arenal! And we enjoyed the hot springs pools, that was really a great way to start and end the day. The rooms were clean and tropical. We had a great view of the mountain from our bed.

The food was OK, no thing to rave about but good enough. The staff was very efficient and helpful.

Lots of fun things to do in the area, see my review of Wave Expeditions.

My husband and I stayed for my birthday, but our stay was way too short only 2 nights. I loved the area as we are very active and there are tons to do (zip line, canyon repelling and hiking) The service was outstanding. The workers make this resort top on my list. I felt like I was leaving good friends behind when we checked out.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted, they booked our activity we wanted and made sure we ate. They did everything to ensure our comfort. They work with good tourist activities.

This doesn't even mention the amazing rooms. They were a retreat that made us feel spoiled. Comfortable beds, outside showers and a secluded balcony.

Thank you for taking so good care of us. Neri & Rita

We booked this hotel last minute but it was totally as great as all the reviews said it was. Staff was friendly and attentive! Rooms were clean and inviting plus its very close to La Fortuna. Definite must and would happily stay again!

My family (and me) stayed at the Arenal Springs for 2 nights. We drove from San Jose to Arenal so that took about 3 hours. When we checked in, Carlos at reception said that our room wasnt ready yet and would take a few minutes to add the third bed in (we have a big family). No prob, we had lunch at the restaurant that serves fresh pizzas right out of the oven ( i forgot the name), Its attached to the reception, its got a great view of the volcano too.
The rooms were nice and comfy, with AC, cable tv and a nice shower with greenhouse. Wifi is complimentary. We had a great view of the volcano right across from our room. The pool is great a too. They have 5 hotsprings and one unheated pool. Yeah, I spent most of my time in the heated pool. Please respect the pool rules (see my pictures of pool rules). The pools werent crowded and there is a pool bar to get some drinks.
The resort grounds are well maintained. Ecoglide, the ziplining place is just 5 minutes from the resort and they pick you up from the lobby. The lobby also has a tour desk.
A taxi to La Fortuna from the resort will cost you $10. The resort also has another restaurant that serves breakfast buffet and has some nice menu options for lunch and dinner.
Overall its a nice relaxing place to stay while in La Fortuna.

We spent 3 nights at the resort, ate all of our meals here, and went on daily excursions. The hotel grounds, common area's and room were absolutely beautiful. The man made springs were fantastic, the kids loved the slides! The food, though delicious, was a bit pricey. Not enough lower cost options for when you want to have a light meal. Drinks were expensive too if you plan to drink cocktails.

Room Tip: If your going to get a suite, make sure you ask for one with your own plunge pool.
