4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

Overall, a good value. We went in May during low season and there were afternoon rains. The rooms were well appointed and the grounds were beautiful. Having the hot springs in the hotel means you can use them over and over again. In contrast, you might need to book a "tour" of hot springs for between $40-60 US should you stay at a different hotel. Rooms were clean and had Wifi and air conditioning, albeit the beds were a little hard. There is no fitness center. The pictures appear to show many pools, which is technically correct. However, note that only one is a ""cool" pool and the others are pools filled with warm spring water. There is a swim-up pool bar from either the cool pool or spring side. My wife enjoyed the frozen cocktails (~$7 US, beers were ~$3.50 US), so decent prices.

Keep in mind, the hotel is about 5 miles from downtown La Fortuna, so eating options are limited. It was a $12 US cab ride from the hotel to downtown. There are 2 restaurants on the premises including the pool bar which doubles as a sushi restaurant and a classic international restaurant with white table cloths. Both restaurants are pricey IMO for what they serve (example: $10-16 US per sushi roll, $25-45 US for entrees). To compare, Don Rufino's downtown was both cheaper and more delicious / adventurous. The food was still tasty at the hotel though. Breakfast is included and the Buffet was well-stocked.

We stayed at the Arenal Springs resort for 3 nights as part of a tour around Costa Rica for our honeymoon.
The resort is pretty upmarket compared to the other places we stayed (rainforest lodges etc). Rooms are well appointed with good quality beds, bedding, towels, robes etc. There's also really good air conditioning.
The resort has a fabulous thermal pool with wet bar and several loungers/booths around the outside too to while away the hours.
Cocktails at the wet bar are really fun and taste excellent too.
Staff are really friendly and for the lazy there are golf carts to take you from reception to your room (we didn't use them!)
The only downside to this hotel is the food. Breakfast was ok but the dinner menu is awful. Around $45 for a basic steak! in fact any meat other than chicken is vastly overpriced. I decided on the last night to take the hit and have a steak. Ordered medium rare. I don't know where the chef learnt to cook but to serve a steak in a red hot skillet is just madness. The first couple of bites were ok but the heat from the skillet just overcooked the steak and made it tough. Deserts were pretty bad too. The only highlight was the coffee but then again this is Costa Rica if they can't serve a good coffee then there really is no hope.
My advice would be to stay here, enjoy the comfort, the wonderful hot springs but go out to the town of La Fortuna for dinner. The amount you'd save would easily pay the taxi fare. If only we'd been told about the wonderful restaurants in the town beforehand.

Room Tip: The higher the room number the further it is away from reception and the hot springs. Rooms start at...

We had a great experience at this hotel. We were greeted on arrival, check in was easy and they showed us to our room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was in the duplex type cabin. There were no other guests on the other side so we did not experience any issues with noise, as other reviews noted. It was low season and we hardly saw anyone on the resort during the day. We had a problem with the toilet which was fixed quickly. The air conditioning was excellent and the room was very clean. The beds could be a little bit more comfortable, but were very good. The room faced the volcano. The flowers etc were beautiful. The hot springs were very relaxing after a day of adventures. The drinks were pricey, the same as US or Canada. The breakfast was very good. We didn't eat at the restaurant otherwise. It was pricey for a taxi to town ($12 one way). Overall, we had a very good experience, traveling as a group of friends in our mid-late 20s.

Beautiful resort. Excellent service. We loved the hot springs on site and spent most of our time there. We had a great view of the volcano and the food was delicious. The only problems we had were with our room. The beds were a little hard and small. Also, every time we left our room everything shut off including the air conditioning which means every time we returned our room was hot and usually took a good while to cool off. It also meant we couldn't leave our phones or ipad, etc. charging because even the outlets shut off. The water temperature in the shower fluctuated between hot and cold and our toilet has a small leak. The management sent a repairman as soon as we notified them but it didn't seem to correct the problem. The beauty of the hotel and the surroundings overshadowed these annoyances most of the time but definitely keeps us from giving it an excellent rating.

Granted, my wife and I probably would have made this our last stop (based on the amount of activity we did the rest of our stay in Costa Rica)...but this was a great way to start off our adventure. The room was nice and clean. We had a great view of the volcano, despite the top being capped by clouds most of the time. The springs were nice and relaxing and we really liked the fact that only resort guests could be here - whereas you could pay an entrance fee to the other springs and still visit them. We passed by some of the other springs and they were teeming with visitors. It felt like we had the resort to ourselves. I would have given it an Excellent rating, but I was surprised that there was not a greater variety with the lunch and dinner menus given that it was a "resort". The food was good, but I would have expected a different lunch and dinner menu.

The staff was really helpful even before arrived. They helped to plan our shuttle from the airport, excursions, and even coordinated a shuttle for us to Santa Teresa when our other option fell through. Many thanks to Jose (resort driver) who was awesome and diligent with the transportation. And kudos to Edward for coordinating our excursions, and many kudos also to the front desk staff for all of their assistance throughout our few days there!

We had the pleasure of spending our wedding anniversay at Arenal Springs. Had a great time, service was wonderful, plenty of smiling faces at every turn. The rooms were clean and spacious, the bathroom luxurious, and they have a great pool and hot springs complex right on site. We were blessed with perfect waether to enjoy it all. I would still recommend visiting Paradise Hot Springs even if you stay here, since they have a whole different feel to them, much more intimate and less resort feeling. A great place to be all around. Beautiful grounds, excellent bar/restuarant prices, and a great buffet breakfast included. Thanks for the attention we received!
