“Amazing Staff, very chill place”

So our travel agent Magaly put us here and although you don't get to see the lava flow any more since the active portion moved to the other side it's still a pretty majestic view of Arenal.

The buildings are all duplexes and set back from each other so you can see the volcano pretty easily. We only ate breakfast here but it was a good solid breakfast.

At the pool the staff are really nice and personable and the wet bar is sweet. You can see Arenal pretty easily too while kicking and enjoying a cold Pilsen or Imperial.

The big thing though for us was the staff. We had an problem with our first room and when we went to talk to the front desk they were extremely helpful and Minor, the manager himself helped us out. He gave us a ton of attention to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of and that kind of service really sealed the deal for me.

Working in the service industry for a while, this is the kind of thing I look for when I travel and want something where I won't have any worries. Minor and his staff are great, and I really liked that the place was tucked back off the road...

“Great Resort”

Arenal Springs Resort

Apr 2, 2008

We recently stayed at the resort - its was very nice. The rooms were clean, but a little small. We had great views of the Volcano almost each dday - perhaps we were lucky. The hotel is NOT facing the side of the volcano were you can see lava - those hotels are around the far side - another 15 minutes drive and make them a bit far from La Fortuna, but close to many of the activities (volcano hikes, zip lines, butterlies, etc.) The grounds were beautiful and it was a good location for the activities in the area and easy access to La Fortuna. Given that everywhere in the area requires a taxi, I would look at renting a car for the stay in this area (taxi's are $7 each way to town, to the hot springs, etc., so renting in La Fortuna might be a good option).

We did the Sky Trek / Sky Tram zip lines - seems very safe and well run - we loved it! But, note that these are very high (some at 600 plus feet up and over 2000 feet long) and fast - not at the tree top level so you will not see wildlife from them - still a great experience and even our kids loved it.

We did run out of hot water for showers 1 -2 times and the pool was a bit cold (fine for mid day, but not late afternoon, and we were out doing things mid day). The concierge was exceptionally good. The restaurant on the grounds is good - highly recommend the seafood soup. The food at Volcano Lodge - just down the dirt road to the resort - was great and extremely well priced.

“Nice Property; Nice Restaurant”

Nice, large property, with separate duplexes spread out over a large area. Restaurant open air with good food at reasonable prices was very nice. Hotel told us they have a "Jacuzzi" but they have no hot tub or Jacuzzi. Very nice pool area with swim up bar, though water too cold and no one was in pool. Lobby and staff are pleasant and helpful. We never saw Arenal volcano due to constant cloud cover.

    • Disliked — Never saw volcano (not the fault of the hotel, though). Not a lot of dining options walkable.

“Nice View, Isolated, Expensive Restaurant”

Arenal Springs Resort

Mar 10, 2008

The staff was helpful and the hotel had very nice views of the Volcano. However, the views were of the side without much active lava flow, but we did get to see a clear puff of smoke and ash for a few minutes. Volcano was in the clouds for most of our visit. The pool was pleasant and the room was clean and had a refridgerator, good cable TV and a fancy shower.
One problem was that the hotel was isolated and a taxi to the Hanging Bridges right at the lake cost $18 to (meter started in La Fortuna) and $16 return. The desk called around and could not find a cheaper rate.
Also, being isolated, one is tempted to use the restaurant and we were charged over $30 for two of the cheaper meals on the menu including the $3 charge for water (not asked for) and the 23 % tax.
A nice place to stay if you have a car.

“Excellent hotel, great view of the volcano”

We were at the Arenal Springs as part of a Caravan Tour, and it was one of the two best hotels of the tour. The rooms are spacious, and the rock wall covered with plants in the shower was unique. We had a great view of the volcano and would have been well placed for viewing the lava flow, but it was cloudy most of the time we were there.

The restaurant was OK--as some other guests said, it was fairly uniform both nights we were there. Breakfast was good--the omelets made to order were outstanding!

We appreciated the free Internet access in the lobby.

The gardens are beautiful, and we saw lots of birds (toucans!!) and beautiful flowers.

The hotel is a short taxi ride from La Fortuna, where there are lots of nice gift shops. It is also close to hot springs which are also beautiful.

Highly recommended!
