“Slice of paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

We loved this resort! It was truly beautiful, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was definitely above average. It's a good idea to stick with the native dishes rather than something you've had "back home" and then expect it to taste the same. The rooms were clean and comfortable, volcano views superb. The concierge suggested a great horseback riding/waterfall hike tour that was outstanding. (Lobo's tours, which I'll review separately). Cab into town was $10, and it was very safe to walk around at night. The Lava Lounge had live music. The resort's grounds are truly outstanding. We started our mornings in the grotto-like jacuzzi watching hummingbirds flutter 3 ft. away! Spent days in activities and came back to the gorgeous, relaxing hot springs... Never crowded and often completely private. We asked about yoga class and when we learned we were too late (8am class), she arranged for a private class later in the day for us at the same price. Now THAT'S service! Some reviews commented on hard beds. The mattresses were firm, but we did not find them uncomfortable. Also loved the plants in the shower! I travel extensively, and Arenal Springs has definitely been added to my list of favorite places!

Room Tip: A room close to the lobby makes it easier to hop back and forth to your room throughout the day. We...

I actually booked this place through a travel agent but I was very pleased. It's a beautiful property with great views and service. I can't believe what a good value it is! The hot springs and pools on the property are wonderful. There's 2 swim up full service bars and about 6 different pools of varying temps. We loved them! And we were lucky enough to have clear days with awesome views of the volcano. A very nice buffet breakfast is included in the price with great fresh fruits, an omelette station where they make it to order and lots of other tasty food. We visited other hotels and hot springs but this place was perfect. It seems very private and it's very clean and beautiful. The beds could be slightly more comfy but for the value I really can't complain. We loved it here and are very happy we stayed there. Its actually a good location. All the tours we did were closer to us than La Fortuna. They are very service oriented and aim to please. I have nothing but good things to say and I'd highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Ask for a room nearest the road and your view will be uninstructed. But it's still a great view.

This hotel was excellent and the grounds were beautiful - well maintained and the plants reminded me of Hawaii. The staff was very friendly and food at hotel was very good. The hotel location is near the valcano and the views were great. The pool and hot springs were outstanding. Wonderful place to stay when visiting the volcano.

Room Tip: All the rooms had a great view of the volcano.

This was our second destination in our trip to Costa Rica. After spending 5 days on the beach in Guanacaste, this was a pleasant change, despite how much we adored Playa Grande. This hotel is new and very well maintained but we didn't feel that it truly gave us the real Costa Rica which our other destination provided for us. We felt more like we were in Hawaii or Florida, very Americanized. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed their luscious hot springs and swim up sushi bar but the hotel itself didn't really have much to offer us in the way of extras. Thankfully we had booked a canyon rappelling adventure through Pure Trek Canyoning, just 500 metres away and it was an awesome way of rounding out our week holiday to CR.

Room Tip: The showers and bathrooms in general are beauuuuutiful!

So there are a lot of options in the Arenal area, but we found the Arenal Springs Resort to be fairly reasonably priced for the amenities that you get. You are greeted with fruit juice as you enter the lobby, and the villas are a nice way to ensure you have a great view. Once we got in, there were complimentary beers in the fridge! Best part about this place is the hot springs bar with fresh sushi!

Here are just some quick pros and cons that I can think of at the resort. Granted I only stayed there for 2 nights:

Pros:
+ Multiple hot springs on the resort
+ Swim up bar with sushi and other food.
+ Free welcome drinks in our hotel room (2 cokes, 2 beers, 2 waters)
+ Good Pina Coladas reasonably priced ($6/each about.)
+ Tasty breakfast buffet with omelette/egg station
+ Views of Volcano in our room (But I'm not sure you can see the volcano from every room.)
+ Concierge doesn't work on commission so they're not trying to push you to do the most expensive thing possible.
+ Balconies / terrace with the room.
+ LCD tvs if you want to bring your HDMI cable.
+ Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Cons:
- There were a decent amount of small ants in our room
- Small ants were all over the swim up bar which made eating a little less desirable
- It's a very touristy area so if you're trying to get a legit Costa Rican experience I'd advise staying somewhere else.

All in all it was a good stay for the price. If you're in the area I'd HIGHLY recommend going Mini Golfing down the road. I believe it's called Reno's International Mini Golf Course. $12/game and the most unique mini golf experience I've ever had.

We stayed for 3 nights over the XMas break. The property is clean, well maintained and the staff are incredible. Helpful, friendly and happy. The pool and hotsprings are exceptional and the 5 of us (me, wife and 3 kids) enjoyed soaking and relaxing. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate for us to see the volcano, but we're sure it was there.

The only glitches on our stay were that the floor in the restaurant is extremely slick when it's wet outside. Be careful. Also we had to pay for a mandatory XMas dinner (was expensive) on the 24th that was extremely dissapointing. The hotel tried really hard to make things great, but unfortunately, the turkey was raw and it turned us off the dinner.

Everything else was amazing. Highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: we had 5 of us in one room. Plenty of space. Just make sure you specify that you must have a porta...
