“Very nice hotel, incredible breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2009

We stayed at the Treehouse in August 2009. The hotel has only 7 rooms, on the top floor of a three story building with restaurants and tour offices (and a BIG tree) on the lower floors. Its quite a place. Very nice rooms. The tree is incredible, and the restaurants very interesting. Breakfast was great, lots of options, and incredible cappucino with monkeys, pigs and dragons created in the foam/coffee mix. The location is perfect. Right in the middle of town, with lots of eating and touring options handy. The rooms are big. They can sleep two couples comfortably.

The only downside is the noise. On our first night (sunday) there was a big festival outside with horses doing some fancy footwork, and then a (very good!) concert. It all ended at about 11pm, but we were all tired and managed to sleep through the concert which seemed to be inside our bedroom. As others have said, on the weekend there is a lot of noise late.

Still, a very nice place to stay and a great experience.

How great to actually live and sleep in a treehouse and we loved our time in Treehouse #3 with an actual tree growing right though the room. We have a 7 year old boy who was in heaven to be staying in such a cool place and he quickly became the best sloth spotter ever. And there were several sloths to see. We also loved the hummingbirds at the mainhouse and the tranquil atmosphere of the whole place. Lucy and Mark were great hosts even before we arrived with providing excellent correspondence and advice and ideas on what to do for side trips. We enjoyed the breakfasts and meeting the other treehouse residents and comparing notes. The walk to the waterfall was really nice but would have been easier without a 7 year old who is used to flat terrain but he made it (in other words, he didn't get left at the waterfall!)

We ended up doing the 1/2 day Balsa River trip (class 2/3) and it was excellent and well worth it. We were not sure is a 7 year old could do but it was fine and there were kids younger than he was. We later went into La Fortuna to pick up the pictures on CD from Wave Adventures and really enjoyed eating at the Lava Lounge which was recommended by Mark and Lucy.

If anyone is looking for a unique place to stay, this is it. Not often does one get to fulfill their childhood dreams of staying in a treehouse. Pura Vida!!

We stayed at the Tree House (#1) for 4 nights out of our three week honeymoon that consisted of seven different cities. There was a howler money in the tree when we drove up the driveway. We also saw a paca, sloth, golden silk spider, bats, leaf cutter ants, and a huge array of birds and humming birds all on the property.

The staff (Mark & Lucy) are friendly and accommodating, the houses are small but clean, and the breakfasts were all good. I would actually love to get the recipe for the coconut french toast. Take the time to walk to the pools and small waterfall. Bring water for the hike back. It's not a hard hike. I did it in flip-flops, would wear sneakers next time. Keep in mind there is no TV or phone, and this place and town not near . Due to the fact that we had a car, it made traveling to La Fortuna easy. I would highly suggest having a car because town is 25-minute away.

If you like Italian food you have to go to Bella Verona for lunch or dinner. We loved it so much we went twice. The owner is so friendly he will likely end up sitting down at your table to chat. For local Tico food, go to Happy Town. They offer good food, large portions, for a reasonable price.

The Safari rafting tour is a waste of time and money, but everything else we did was fun.

We did it for our four kids ( age 7-12). There are only a few "tree house" hotels in CR; we ignored the cost and wanted them to have this experience.
It is really a raised cabin. Very cramped, but the kids liked the coziness. It is not convenient ( a solid 30 minute drive from La Fortuna). Moderately noisy ( it is right by the road; you can hear cars/ trucks all night long). It is quite expensive. They piled charges for each child. Cabins are clean and modern.
The current caretakers were very very friendly and kind.
One night is enough. Being there... done it...

We appreciate this and all reviews from our wonderful customers. We take these reviews very seriously and learn something from each one. It is our goal for all to have a great time while visiting Tree Houses.
When booking this reservation, as with all reservations, each customer agrees to all charges before the reservation is complete. Several e-mails were exchanged with this customer explaining that having 5 people in one tree house is a tight fit. It is very important to us that our customers know what to expect when they arrive. We do not pile on charges and our rates are clearly posted on our Web site. As with most B&Bs and hotels in Costa Rica there is a charge for additional people. Many hotels charge $15 to $25 per extra person; our rate is $10 . This reviewer did not stay at the hotel, but left the children with an uncle for the evening. When the parents arrived the next morning Mark and Lucy offered them breakfast which they seemed to enjoy. We are a 20- to 25-minute easy drive on the same road that all the hotels are on in La Fortuna. The great thing about our property is we are not in the middle of everything, therefore we have a very natural setting with incredible wildlife living on our 8 acres and the 70-acre wildlife refuge adjacent to our hotel.

My husband, 17 year old daughter and myself stayed at the tree houses for three nights,
I was a wonderful experience all around. The place is absolutely beautiful and Mark and Lucy were wonderful hosts. With only two other tree houses, and everybody going down to the office for breakfast, we got to know the other guests as well.

The rooms are tiny, but really lovely...we even had a fresh flower in a vase upon arrival. Mark and Lucy as well as other staff members are happy to help visitors find an view the sloths hanging in the trees and the monkeys swinging around as well as sharing great ideas about places to eat and see (Leo's art handmade arts and crafts place is wonderful as are Leo and his wife Marisol).

These houses are up high, and you are in the jungle. It was a wonderful trip!!!

Our family spent two exciting nights at The Treehouses. Threehouse 3 has a tree growing straight through it! The kids loved hanging out in the loft and on the porch and watching the family of bats that also enjoyed hanging out just outside the front door. Mark and Lucy did a great job of arranging tours and pointing us in the right directions for a good deal and a great meal. Beakfast was a treat - coconut french toast! We felt well taken care of and loved every minute of our stay. The hike to the waterfall on the property was fun- we saw 5 tucans in one tree. We highly recommend The Treehouses Hotel and will visit again....

We had a fantastic stay at the Treehouses. My boyfriend and a friend of our stayed for two wonderful nights. The property is beautiful, so many flowers not to mention the birds, monkeys, and frogs. The hike down to the waterfall is well worth it. Our hosts Mark and Lucy were awesome and we would recommend staying here to everyone we know. Mark was very helpful in finding excursions and other things for us to do while we were in the area. We stayed in treehouse #2 and it had plenty of room, it was very clean and the porch is great for spotting wildlife. We will be back!
