“Sweet Tree House stay with my 9 and 11 year old”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2009

We just returned from 6 days in Costa Rica. The first two nights were spent at the Tree Houses Hotel. It was absolutely fantastic. Once I picked my 9 year old son and 11 year old daughter jaws off of the ground, we were warmly greeted by Mark and Lucy. You could not ask for more gracious, hospitable and kind host. The Tree House was so cool. We felt like we were special jungle researchers staying in our own private jungle observatory. Mark was a tremendous help it assisting us with organizing a day that included a horseback ride throught the jungle to La Fortuna Waterfall, a Canopy Zip Line tour, and a relaxing end to the day at Baldi Hot Springs. I would highly recommend this location. It is a great, safe feeling retreat in the Jungle where your kids will hug you with glee and excitement thanking you. I can't wait to go back with my wife for a romantic getaway as I look foward to walking the trails on the 20 acre property to the private waterfall and pool area. K. Gorman Skaneateles, N.Y.

We were in Costa Rica for 8 nights and the, 1 night we spent at the Tree Houses Hotel was the best!! We stayed in house number 3 and it was incredible-it had a huge tree growing right through it! As soon as we arrived we were greeted by our friendly hosts Lucy and Mark, along with an amazing variety of hummingbirds! Mark was extremely helpful with giving us information about the surrounding areas and about the property, and he even called ahead to reserve a canopy tour for us. In the one night we stayed there we had 2 howler monkeys in the back yard putting on a show for us, and the next day we saw more howler monkeys and a mother sloth and her baby. It was beautiful. There are butterflies and green parrots that were flying around everywhere, and the flora and fauna is amazing. The hike to the waterfall and pools on the property was really lovely, with fruit trees and gorgeous bamboo all along the way. Staying here was a once in a life-time opportunity and I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Costa Rica. From the elevation of the Tree Houses you get to experience the wildlife from a first hand perspective. We loved it and will definitely go back!

The rooms have AC, full bathrooms, mini-fridge, safe, coffee maker with coffee and a fan. The rooms are nothing fancy but are very comfortable. You wont find another hotel like this in CR. Our Tree house had a wrap around porch with chairs and a table that we enjoyed very much. Bring water and drinks to put in the fridge so you have it when you're there.

Its been a couple of weeks since my return from Costa Rica. I find myself browsing through my pictures and remember the wonderful places visited. The Tree House Hotel stands on its own. This provided a way for us to be as close as possible to the trees, animals and sounds that come with staying in a tree house.

We stayed in tree house #3, mostly pictured on the website with the sliding doors. This tree house was the latest to be constructed in the private, gated, plot of land. Within the private grounds, there are trails which will take you through the forest up to the adjacent river bank. Look out for sloths, monkeys, and diffrent species of birds as these are abundant in the area. There are only 3 tree houses onsite which means, most of the time you'll be on the trails alone providing the much quietness and privacy such a vacation deserves.

The tree house itself is a master piece of work. The sliding glass doors provide unobstructed views of the sorrounding trees, the wood work embodied the trees it was built around and the deck built around the perimeter was the perfect seating area for listening, watching, and enjoying the forest. The added bonus were the ammenities which made for a comfortable stay. Super clean, AC, mini fridge, coffee maker, shower and toilet all inside.

The hosts, Mark and Lucy were friendly and very informative. They were quick to suggest places to see and things to do while in Fortuna.

This place is amazing and it delivered!

Our 10 day trip to Costa Rica ended with 2 nights at the Treehouse Hotel, in treehouse #3, of 3. It was really awesome! We were up in the air with the birds in a rustic setting with a wraparound porch with a comfortable table and 2 chairs outside to sit in and just enjoy.
The funny thing was that, after staying at 2 other places, we were pleasantly surprised to find that our treehouse had more amenities than any place else we stayed. This was the only place we stayed that had air conditioning, fresh coffee and coffee maker, and a small refrigerator! So, we were able to dry out and cool off after a hot day of hiking in the surrounding area.
Mark and Lucy took the time to make sure that we felt at home there, helping us plan our excursions and giving us extremely valuable tips. not to mention the healthy filling breakfast each morning!
They even set us up with our new friend, the owner of the Bella Verona, the finest Italian meal I have ever had!
To have travelled to Costa Rica and missed out on this adventure would have been a terrible shame. I highly recommend that you do the same.

It was just like the pictures show and the reviewers wrote, excepted the staff was even more wonderful. The grounds were beautiful, and so exciting to hike through. There was wildlife everywhere, from the birds, monkey, bats, frogs, lizards, etc. The rooms were not luxurious, but you had EVERYTHING you needed. Breakfast in the morning was even served early for us because the excellent staff at the Tree House helped us book our excursions and knew our schedule. Mark helped us plan a horseback riding tour that was geared for the riding level of our travelers. Mark also helped us with the next days adventures and we weren't even staying at the Tree House any longer. He even checked to make sure everything was going well for our vacation. Get directions to the BEST Italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. Some of our friends even went back the next day.

My girlfriend and I made our first stop in Costa Rica at the Tree Houses hotel in Santa Clara, which is about a 20 minute drive from Fortuna and all of its touristy busy-ness.

We chose Tree Houses because of the great reviews here on TripAdvisor, and we weren't disappointed and we got more than we expected.

First off, our hosts, Mark, Lucy, and the resident dog Bejuca were amazing. They made us feel at home, served up delicious breakfasts, and were a wealth of good advice. Mmm hmmm!

Next up, the treehouse itself is like a small little cottage built up in the trees. It's a cool little spot and gives you a unique feel.

If you want to be in the city and around a nightlife, this is NOT for you. But if you want to get away from the crowds (there are only 3 cabins), enjoy some quiet time to yourselves, and be IN nature, then this is your spot.

Just check out some of the pics we got on the property. We saw monkeys, sloths, hummingbirds, lizards, parrots, toucans, frogs, and more - we saw more on the Tree Houses property than on a 5 hour hike through Manuel Antonio National Park!

Anyway, if this sounds good to you, you can't go wrong by staying at Tree Houses. Say 'hola' to Mark and Lucy from Eric and Helen if you go.

We stayed here for one night on our second trip to CR. I booked this hotel with a voucher and it was very inexpensive. Check in was easy. The town of Santa Elena was small and nice. Checked in, went to our room. The room was very simple. We were upstairs in the corner room that overlooks the little church across the street. We both really enjoyed staying here. We walked down the street to go out to eat at a small restaurant. I can not remember the name of it. Went to the supermarket and picked up a few things. We went back to the hotel, dried off because it started pouring. We went upstairs and had a coffee at the coffee shop there, and then went over to the bar and enjoyed a glass of wine. After that, we went to sleep early. we are not light sleepers and we slept fine. The next morning we woke up early before the other guests and had hot water for the showers! We walked to the bakery down the street for breakfast and then back ot the hotel for checkout. Then off to monteverde for Skytrek, and then off to Arenal. They also have free computers that you can use.

If I go back to Santa Elena or the area around there, I would stay here again. It is not a fancy hotel by any means, but it is nice and serves its purpose.
