“Loved the Treehouses!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

We stayed four nights at the Treehouses and it was just wonderful. The Treehouses themselves are beautifully made and the surroundings incredible. We saw lots of birds and the highlight of my kid's trip was seeing a sloth up in a tree that was pointed out by Lucy near the breakfast area. The breakfasts were really yummy and they were very accommodating to our "picky eater" children. Mark was so knowledgeable about the area and pointed us in the direction of some great local restaurants. We also set up white water rafting and ziplining through Mark, and both were excellent. The property is very large and we hiked down to the stream and went for a swim- it was lovely. Couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more.

This was the second stop on our honeymoon in Costa Rica and one I was really looking forward to.
My wife was expecting basic accommodation and I was just excited to be up in the tree canopy with the wildlife of Costa Rica. On arrival we were blown away by the quality of accommodation and we even had A/C :) We were in Colibri (Hummingbird) and it was very clean, spacious and more than adequate for our needs.
The decking outside was perfect for watching the wildlife and they even brought fresh coffee every morning in a thermos. A lovely touch, which I looked forward to every day. Whilst drinking the coffee one morning we got some great photos of a Toucan, in a tree adjacent to our decking.
Breakfast was served in a separate area and was very welcome. It started with fruit plus juices and coffee. This was followed by a variety of Costa Rican favourites. Whilst eating breakfast we could watch the Hummingbirds drinking from the feeders next to us.
The trails on the property were good for a morning stroll and we spotted quite a bit whilst on them. Lots more Toucans, a Jesus Christ Lizard at the river and various other bugs and Poison Dart frogs.
Although not the cheapest nightly rate on our honeymoon we loved every minute of it... Plus I got some great photos of hummingbirds in the process :)
Don't hesitate to book this place, you will not be disappointed.

My daughter and I tried to book 3 nights here, but could only get two, and I was so sorry we couldn't have stayed longer! We were in Costa Rica for 2 weeks, stayed in 5 different places, and this was hands down our favorite! The grounds were beautiful - we saw as many birds, insects and various animals on the property in our two days there, than we did on the rest of our trip! And I can't say enough about the hospitality of Mark and Lucy. Mark worked with me ahead of our trip, helping me to plan activities, recommending other areas and attractions (Proyecto Asis is a must!) and referring me to the best car rental company ever (Marco at Trebol in La Fortuna). We stayed in the Rana (Frog) Tree House, and although it didn't bother us, be aware that this is the least secluded house - closest to the main Street and you will hear some traffic. The rooms were immaculate, and I loved that every morning when we awoke, there was a fresh pot of coffee setting on our table outside, and plantains in the feeder. We saw Toucans, Toucanettes, Blue Crowned Mot Mots, and many more birds at the feeders - and from our deck alone - a sloth, armadillos, coatis and agoutis... If we ever have a chance to stay here again, I would plan more "down time" - just sitting on the deck or in the Rancho (where breakfast is served) - to just enjoy and observe. And the breakfasts were delicious - freshly cooked, with fresh fruit and fruit juices and delicious coffees. If you're planning a trip to this area in Costa Rica, you must stay here!

Room Tip: Try to get a Tree House away from the main road - and book early!

A nice secluded room perched thirty feet above the jungle floor. It's like being alone in the middle of the jungle. No other buildings were in sight from our perch. Staff is super friendly and helpful to ensure you enjoy your stay. The only less than ideal feature is its near proximity to the highway. The noise from some of the louder vehicles intrude on the sounds of nature. But I wouldn't let that deter me from staying here again.

Tree Houses Hotel lived up to all my expectations. I can't wait to come back; it was the highlight of our trip. My only regret is not having stayed longer.
First, the property is gorgeous. The treehouses are surrounded by a gorgeous forest that is alive with the sounds and sights of nature. One could just simply sit on the porch or walk the property and discover so much. It is absolutely enchanting.
Second, Mark and Lucy manage this property so well. Our tree house was immaculate, and we always awakened to a hot thermos of delicous coffee in the morning. What a treat it was to get up and wake to the sights and sounds of the forest. It was really lovely. Mark also took a great deal of time helping us find a hower monkey. As a result I was able to get a great shot of howler monkey. They took the time to show us around the property, and when we arrived really early Mark suggested where we could walk around while the girls cleaned the treehouse.
Finally, the breakfasts were delicious! Every morning we had fresh cold tropical fruit juice, hot coffee, and yummy breakfast. My son and husband couldn't quit raving about the breakfasts. Another thing to add is how beautiful this area of Costa Rica is. If you are thinking it is all about a volcano, it is not. This was our favorite area of Costa Rica. When we visit Costa Rica, we will definitely visit it again. Make sure you don't miss it because the La Fortuna area is both charming and beautiful.
All in all, Tree Houses is awesome! I definitely reccomend making reservations in advance; it is well worh it!

Room Tip: Plan a day or two to chill and enjoy the property!
