We had a great time staying at the tree house. The accommodations are rustic but very clean and comfortable. Mark and Lucy were excellent at recommending and booking excursions. We went white water rafting and ziplining, both of which I would highly recommend. The breakfast served is amazing and the coffee and bird watching in the morning is unbeatable. We enjoyed the hiking on the property more than in the national parks. We would most definitely stay here again. We were in the Toucan house. Don’t forget to pack bug spray, the mosquitos are intense!

We stayed for two nights here in December and I can only repeat what most of the other reviewers have already said about this place. It really is a magical setting to be in the trees and surrounded by so many birds and other wildlife. Our tree house (the Yiguirro) was wonderful - spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet, with a beautiful deck to sit on in the morning or evening to watch birds and just enjoy the jungle. The service was personal and friendly and the breakfasts were excellent. As some reviewers have pointed out, the location might be a disadvantage to some travellers as there is not much close to the hotel and you really need a car to get out to restaurants and sightseeing destinations, and the tree houses are close enough to the road to have a certain amount of road noise (though we did not find this to be a problem at all). The night tour was great, as was the walk down to the waterfall and river. Overall, it was a relaxing and peaceful place to spend time and very highly recommended. Our only regret was that we did stay longer, and we will definitely return if we can.

The staff is fantastic, the room was just what we needed and the bird watching was out of this world.

I am so thankful that the staff is knowledgeable of the many activities and had recommendations on which company to use. This really put my mind at ease.

The treehouse was a dream. We enjoyed waking up to coffee and bird watching. The breakfast was fantastic and healthily.

Our stay at the treehouse helped make our trip magical and fun. We will be returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in the humming bird house it had room to sleep 5. We loved having the extra big porch even...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tree Houses Hotel. Everyone has done the bla bla write ups so I'll just jump to the pros and cons.
Pros:
*Mark is great. Friendly, helpful, went out of his way to take care of us. We didn't see much of Lucy but she seemed nice, efficient. They even arranged early breakfast without being asked when we had them book an early tour for us.
*Speaking of breakfast, it is included and its yummy.
*There were so many animals around that the sounds were wonderful
*The tree house was rustic and somewhat realistic even swaying when we walked or the wind blew hard. (But cooler than our tree house as a kid because it had a fridge.)
*The showers are open air, screened in on the top part (shoulders up depending on height). This was very cool.
*Coffee on the deck in the morning while the birds devour their breakfast on the feed posts... see cons below.
*There is a nice little waterfall and pool on the property to hike to with thoughtfully placed benches along the path for those of us that may have skipped a few years of cardio workouts.
*There is a safe in the room just like all the hotels we stayed in but this one came with a preassigned combination which I found odd.
Cons:
There really weren't many. I'd actually give them a 4.5
*The room smelled musty, almost of mold. This was the first place we stayed and I thought maybe everything in CR was like that but the other 4 bungalows we stayed in didn't smell. It was an unseasonably warm snap and I don't do hot so we couldn't really air it out and use the a/c at the same time so I don't know what it would be like if we left all the windows open for hours.
*bird feeding on the deck... This happens really early, like 6:30 and it makes a huge ruckus. There is no sleeping thru it. Because we were up and out so early the first day we didn't realize the birds and coffee thing happened so early but we needed to sleep the next day and couldn't. I'm sure if we'd asked they wouldn't have skipped it but we didn't know to ask.
*Tree houses is on a corner in the road and the trucks jake brake thru it all night long. I guess both of these issues would be solved with ear plugs.
*Half of the walls are more than 50% glass. It is awesome, you can see everything. The lower ones do have curtains but they only encourage the light to stay out but don't really block it so if you're an early riser you're golden, if not eye shades...

Would I stay here again, yes, I probably would. Its an awesome property with great hosts and I could work around the cons.

Room Tip: We stayed in Monkey.

Great place, well run and very nicely laid out. Extremely private houses in the trees near La Fortuna. Booking was easy, the email confirmation had everything you needed from confirming your payment to detailed directions to get to the place as well as a contact phone number.

Mark and Lucy are great hosts....... They meet you on your arrival with everything you need to know about the house, trails on the land, restaurants in the vicinity etc...etc..... Drinks are available on site, if you don't bring your own. There is an honor system, that gets added up at the end of your stay.

Breakfast is included, and boy, do you get looked after..... Coffee/Tea/Fruit Juice, a bowl of local fruit and a daily special hot breakfast that changes every day. Local produce, well cooked, well served and all with a friendly smile.

The "only" downside to the place we had, was it was near the road, and the only road between Arenal and civilization...... So, the trucks, bikes, quads all ruin the tranquility of the place when trying to relax. This is not the owners, nor the Managers fault, but a by product of being by the side of the road I guess....... I will definitely go back, but will be sure to ask for a treehouse at the back of the property.

Thanks for your hospitality Mark and Lucy!! :)

Room Tip: Away from the road at the top of the property.

We just returned from a two week honeymoon in Costa Rica. We stayed at the treehouses for 4 days. From the moment our driver picked us up in Playa Flamingo, it was spectacular! Mark, one of the hosts from the treehouses, arranged a private driver named Oscar to take us boh ways. It was like having a private tour guide. He knew all the right stops, including food, tree full of monkeys, and picture perfect spots along the way.
Once we arrived at the treehouses, we were in awe. Each treehouse is private, clean and built to bring he outdoors in. This is a bird lovers paradise...and you'll become one if not already. Each morning they deliver coffee to your treehouse deck and bananas for the birds to eat. Breakfast at the rancho was a surprise treat everyday from individual huevos to coconut pineapple French toast with chocolate sauce always accompanied with yummy local fruit. One night, we had pizza delivered to the treehouse by ATV. Only in Costa Rica!
On the property there is a lot of wildlife. In addition to the birds, we saw a couple of sloths, many frogs and lizards. The night watchman gives tours...he can find many things the average joe would never see!
Mark also arranged two tours for us. The rafting trip was the highlight of the entire vacation! The tour picked us up right at the treehouse gate. The guides were funny, spoke English and knew the river well. It was class 3&4 and did not disappoint. The 2nd trip was to the hot springs at Tabacon. Mark also arranged for transportation to/from the hot springs. The pools were amazing...beautiful and clean. Dinner was included and afterwards we were able to go back in the pools.
All in all, this is a must stop on any Costa Rican vacation! Book early, as there are only a few treehouses. Even if it's only a couple days. We'll be back for sure!

Mark and Lucy were very accommodating and helpful with every aspect of our trip to Arenal. Although it was a little tricky to stay in a place so far outside of town without transportation it was well worth it! The treehouse's were so comfortable and fun! Every morning we had coffee dropped off outside on our deck. It was a great way to get our busy days started. We would relax and drink coffee on the deck surrounded by the rainforest. Each treehouse was very private and quiet. the grounds were immaculate with a natural feeling of being right in the rainforest. Every morning we went down to the "rancho" for breakfast where the girls in the kitchen rocked our tastebuds with everything from a breakfast quiche, breakfast shepherds pie to a typical rice and beans breakfast. Hands down some of the best food of the trip, all served with fruit and coffee. I had food allergies that were accommodated and handled before I even had to ask :) We were greeted every morning by Lucy and Marks friendly rescue dogs (Big Behuca and mini Behuca) who arrived with Lucy at the same time every morning at breakfast! They were always ready for a good snuggle and a belly scratch :)

The grounds were teeming with wildlife. Ironically, we saw more animals in around the treehouse property than any of the other tours through the rainforest! We took advantage of all of the hiking trails and were able to see: Howler monkeys, leaf cutter ants, humming birds and a variety of other birds and wildlife. We went on the night tour as well... WELL WORTH IT! we were able to get a look at a sloth, tree frogs and many insects! The guy running the night tours was amazing and knew all of the places to look for these night dwelling animals :) The night tour is free but we gave him a good tip for the time he took from his duties to show us around!

There are buses running to town constantly and although the return trip from la fortuna was harder to navigate, we had no trouble getting into town using the local bus.

Projecto Asis was only a 20 minute walk away and was one of the highlights of our trip! It was arranged by Mark and Lucy and we were able to learn about and see animals that had been rescued from domestic situations and from game hunters. The project attempts to educate people as well as rehabilitate these animals for release into the wild later. We were able to interact with the animals and it was a touching experience for both of us as well as an educational one <3

GREAT PLACE, and GREAT OWNERS :)

Room Tip: tip: I would recommend this for people with a car especially :)
