“Beautiful, relaxing honeymoon spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2010

(We actually went in September or 2009 but I could not chose that as a date.) We spent three amazing nights here to kick off our honeymoon. We were greeted with frozen drinks in the amazing open-air lobby. Then we were showed to our fantastic room, equipped with plush bath robes, our very own hot tub and a private balcony with an unobstructed view of the Arenal Volcano. I'm not joking, we could see the top of the smoking volcano all the way to the base. You could even see lava spit out once in a while.

The resort restaurant was also very good but a little pricey (which was fine for us but it can add up after a while). The pools were just ok. They were small but the hot spring pools more than made up for them (really those are the reasons you'd go there anyway). That's right, you can sit in the many natural hot spring pools right on site. It was very quiet and very romantic. We spent some time just strolling around the vast flower gardens on the grounds.

If you have time take a guided tour of the volcano. The tour takes you hiking and then to other hot springs. It was worth every penny. On the hike we saw a snake eat a toad. It was actually kind of cool. Costa Rica really has tourism down. The tour guides are nice, well trained and very knowledgeable. They really strive for you to enjoy your tour, unlike what you get at so many other tropical locations.

We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely room, gorgeous flowers and fabulous view of the volcano. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. We even hod our own hot tub in the room. The restaurant was good and the service was excellent. We did not use the pool or exercise room, but the outdoor hot tubs were a great place to relax. Free internet on hotel computers was an added bonus. This hotel is conveniently located and worth the drive from San Jose.

When we were planning our honeymoon to Costa Rica, my husband and I were torn as to whether to stay at Arenal Kioro or at Tabacon during our visit to the Arenal volcano region. We ultimately chose Kioro because it appeared to be a more intimate setting, due in part to the fact that it only has 53 guest rooms. We could not have been more pleased with our decision!

The pictures on the website do not do this hotel justice. The views of the volcano are breathtaking and the grounds are immaculate. The guest rooms are huge and well-appointed. The service was great, as well.

As an anniversary trip, we traveled to Costa Rica and our first stop was the Arenal Kioro Suites. While the drive from San Jose International was a bit scary, we relaxed the minute we arrived at Arenal. Past the gated entrance, we were greeted at reception with a beverage of our choice and got a moment to take in the beautiful area. When we got to the room, we found the view breathtaking and the accommodations nice - true in-suite jacuzzi, comfortable king bed and sitting area. We were traveling in the green season but encountered very little rain and according to locals, it was the best time to be there. High season you encounter hordes of folks, long waits at in-town restaurants and tour areas. The food and drink at the Arenal Kiroro was good and the service top-notch - they even brought us drinks out in the hot springs! We truly didn't want to leave.
Other advice - SkyTrek tours are the best for zip-ling and rain-forest tours and discount tickets are available at rental car agency. La Fortuna waterfall has a very precarious path down to base. Lava Lounge in La Fortuna is good place to eat but be careful if driving - the owner rescues dogs and they lie in the street & will not move for cars.

I actually didn't expect much for this hotel while booking, but upon arrival we had a wonderful surprise, the hotel is beautiful, big comfortable rooms with jacuzzi. It was raining a bit when we arrived so the hotel staff recommended us to try their hotel hot springs. There were 8 pools with different temperatures, we were surrounded by beautiful flowers and japanese style garden. From the hotel you have a direct view of the Arenal Volcano, the service was perfect and the food was very good.

We (parents, 3 children, ages 22, 20 and 14) spent two nights/three days in Arenal in JUly of 2010, and the Kioro was probably the best choice. Two very spacious adjoining rooms. the hotel stands right on the knees of the volcano, and we were treated to several eruptions while there. It is a truly astouding experience to see and hear a volcano erupting, and that was worth the price of admission. Otherwise, the hotel is modern and comfortable. Not much in the way of style. Best qualities: location, nice reception with a glass of wine, location, wonderful shower/bath, location, natural hot pools on the property, and location. Least quality: expensive and unexceptional restaurant (but you get the volcano). We spent the days hiking, river-rafting, and exploring the hanging bridges. If I had it to do over again, I would have stayed a day or two longer.
