“A wonderful experience - great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2010

As an anniversary trip, we traveled to Costa Rica and our first stop was the Arenal Kioro Suites. While the drive from San Jose International was a bit scary, we relaxed the minute we arrived at Arenal. Past the gated entrance, we were greeted at reception with a beverage of our choice and got a moment to take in the beautiful area. When we got to the room, we found the view breathtaking and the accommodations nice - true in-suite jacuzzi, comfortable king bed and sitting area. We were traveling in the green season but encountered very little rain and according to locals, it was the best time to be there. High season you encounter hordes of folks, long waits at in-town restaurants and tour areas. The food and drink at the Arenal Kiroro was good and the service top-notch - they even brought us drinks out in the hot springs! We truly didn't want to leave.
Other advice - SkyTrek tours are the best for zip-ling and rain-forest tours and discount tickets are available at rental car agency. La Fortuna waterfall has a very precarious path down to base. Lava Lounge in La Fortuna is good place to eat but be careful if driving - the owner rescues dogs and they lie in the street & will not move for cars.

I actually didn't expect much for this hotel while booking, but upon arrival we had a wonderful surprise, the hotel is beautiful, big comfortable rooms with jacuzzi. It was raining a bit when we arrived so the hotel staff recommended us to try their hotel hot springs. There were 8 pools with different temperatures, we were surrounded by beautiful flowers and japanese style garden. From the hotel you have a direct view of the Arenal Volcano, the service was perfect and the food was very good.

We (parents, 3 children, ages 22, 20 and 14) spent two nights/three days in Arenal in JUly of 2010, and the Kioro was probably the best choice. Two very spacious adjoining rooms. the hotel stands right on the knees of the volcano, and we were treated to several eruptions while there. It is a truly astouding experience to see and hear a volcano erupting, and that was worth the price of admission. Otherwise, the hotel is modern and comfortable. Not much in the way of style. Best qualities: location, nice reception with a glass of wine, location, wonderful shower/bath, location, natural hot pools on the property, and location. Least quality: expensive and unexceptional restaurant (but you get the volcano). We spent the days hiking, river-rafting, and exploring the hanging bridges. If I had it to do over again, I would have stayed a day or two longer.

When we arrived after quite a few hours traveling by van from San Jose, We were greeted in an open air lobby with a free drink of our choice. We were informed about the restaurants, spa and other amenities. The Rooms we had were amazing. They were enormous. I had two grandchilddren in my room and my daughter and son in law in another. Each room had a hot tub with a huge window looking out at the volcano. Also floor to ceiling windows with a door to stand outside on a small area looking at the volcano. The gardens were gorgeous. I loved this hotel! Beds were comfortable and
the special touches(like a flower on our toilet paper roll. Bathrooms were huge also. There wasn't a thing i did not like about our rooms.

We began our vacation here and there was no better way it could
have began...Beautiful property, great staff and magnificent views!
The volcano erupted our final day there. It was like having a front row
seat to your favorite movie in 3D!

I found my deep tissue massage to be just ok. My wife had the massage
With mud and had a similiar experience. Not bad, but really just ok.

The breakfast was good and my wife enjoyed the omelett station. We
didnot have dinner due to other reviews we read. We did have
dinner in town at Don Rufino's. This was good but not great.
Quite frankly the best meals we had were in the various excursions.

This was myself, boyfriend and 2 11 year old boys. We had an amazing time at this hotel. We had previously been staying in a lodge in Tortugero so this was like walking into paradise. Our room was fabulous. Great view of the Volcano and close to the pools and hot springs. To get into any of the hot springs in the other hotels is expensive so pay a tiny bit extra to stay here over one of the other hotels in the area.

We had one of our best vacations at Kioro. Most friendly staff. The view of the volcano is just incredible. All the view of the greenery around the rooms was so relaxing and refreshing, we walked away with a vacation we'll never forget. Great location - lots of things to see and do, in and around La Fortuna. Overall a memorable experience!!
