“Excellent Stay- Loved the Hot Springs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were really nice and clean. We had an excellent view of the volcano and the Hot Springs were to die for! You could easily spend hours in there. The complimentary breakfast was also awesome with a lot of variety to choose from. I wrote about this place on my blog and included quite a few pictures if you'd like to check it out:

Had 2 separate rooms for family of 4 vacation. Biggest negative was they did not put both rooms in same building and were unable to accommodate this request during 3 nights we were there. The only other negative was quality of work out gym and pool tables. While gym was not expected to be large, I did expect the equipment to be functional. One of the 2 tread mills was unusable and the small universal weight machine broken. The pool tables were badly warped. Ping pong tables in decent shape. Hot springs enjoyable but hottest was cooler than typical temperature of a Jacuzzi.

Staff was the friendliest and most helpful we had during our stay in Costa Rica. They were always helpful in recommending and coordinating excursions.

In the one onsite restaurant, dinner food was good. Breakfast buffet was decent.

The hotel was great! Everything about it was perfect except for the horseback ride they recommended. The massage was amazing, the food was great ( I have become addicted to casados and find myself frying plantains), and the proximity was awesome. We were close to the national park and the hanging bridges. The people there were great and very helpful. The only bad thing was the horseback ride.

Let me point out that there are two. The one ran by ALBERTO IS THE GOOD ONE. However, if you end up being picked up in a van with no AC and driven to a shed off the main road, welcome to hell. The horses are not fed, the guide was a clown who tied all the horses mouths shut for trying to eat since all their ribs were showing, he started an hour late, he made A LITTLE GIRL CRY, and we didn't ride through pasture. We rode between two electric fences and down a paved road. Mud everywhere and miserable horses.

We were a family of 5 that stayed 3 nights. This was the first leg of our vacation and we couldn't have been happier. The rooms are huge. The in room jacuzzi is fantastic. The view of the volcano is incredible from each room. Unfortunately we only saw the volcano once during our stay. It was truly impressive how close you are to it. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the restaurant provided delicious food, although dinner was a bit pricey. The complementary breakfast buffet offered a wide range of options including a made to order egg station. Service was outstanding throughout Kioro!!! We were provided with complementary facials at the spa which was a nice surprise. The on site hot springs are also an added bonus!

The Arenal Kioro is a very good hotel with great views of Arenal volcano. We stayed here for three nights - the location was nice, staff was good and generally friendly and accommodating. We had to change our plans and they were flexible with it.

Our room was large and had 2 queen beds as well as a kid's bed. It also had a hot tub.

After visiting Corcovado, this felt more touristy, but we were happy with our stay here.

Room Tip: We were in building 12 - it is a 7-10 minute walk to the dining room and wifi is also not great here...

We stayed four nights here during our honeymoon...during the rainy season. Bring rain jacket!

We enjoyed our time here. Nice hotel, well kept grounds, very nice staff. We were a captive audience (meaning 20 minutes outside of the main town). So, we always had to eat at the one and only restaurant there. Which got old after four days.

If you want to get a shuttle to town it is $2 per person/per day. ONLY leaves the resort at 2:30pm and leaves the town of La Fortuna at 5:30pm. Cabs would be about $40 each way. So a little bit of a captive audience to the amenities, food/beverage there. It is not all inclusive resort so food and beverage add up quick.

Decent food (about 3 stars). Over priced for what you get there. Same menu for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is included during your stay. Same menu daily- a step up from Continental breakfast.
Alcoholic beverages are waaaay over priced. Go to the main bar when it opens, eat dinner there $6 bucks for an appetizer vs. $24 bucks at the restaurant. Still the same kitchen so same chef/staff cooking. Cesar the bartender is awesome! Also, every night there are drink specials, so ask the front desk daily about it. It will save you some $$$.

Tip: we went to the town the first day we were there. We had the hotel staff clean out our mini fridge (b/c it was filled with over priced drinks). And refilled it with things from the grocery store in town (lots of water/beer/soda/snacks). That saved us a lot of money.
The town is cute and there are some fun restaurants there. Lots of little shops. I recommend doing your shopping and bargaining in La Fortuna. At the resort there is only a gift shop.

Rooms were awesome- spacious, clean, hot tub, well kept, etc. 5 stars for the room. The maid staff was always great. Returning from a daily adventure, the rooms were always clean when we returned and the staff always turned the towels into something cute (elephants kissing, etc.). Great view of the volcano. Although it was so rainy and cloudy, we saw it for maybe... 20 minutes.

The hot springs were broken while we were there- And it was raining so hard 95% of the time, so it didn't matter that it was broken, we couldn't have gone... with the rain was lightening and thunder. Inside a lot.

With the storms, causes TV, internet services unavailable. So bring books and games when hanging out!

Skyram zip-lining was the best.
Volcano hike (to the base) was cool but again, with the storms, we couldn't see the volcano and with the rain, many animals were hiding. We saw some parakeets which was cool. The guide was great.

We went to the sunny side of Costa Rica following this hotel. We had a great experience here at Arenal Kioro but we were ready for some sunshine.
On your drive to Tamarindo (if you go that direction) stop at the only brewery. About 1.5 hours from Arenal Kioro. Great view and beer. There are signs along the way so be sure to ask your driver about it. Worth the stop!

I would recommend staying at this hotel. We enjoyed our time. Wonderful staff. If you want more sunshine during your vacation, only stay here a 2 days max. Then head to sunny side
