We may have had a better experience if we had rented a car but for travelers reliant on buses this location was a little inconvenient. When we arrived the front staff were welcoming but not very personal. We were given an escort to our cabin which was located further back in the complex among a row of similar cabins with a great view of the Arenal Volcano. Inside the cabins were spacious but we had a problem with cobwebs and ants. There was AC which made the evenings more comfortable. I don't think there were any other occupants in the adjacent cabins so I can't say much about noise level (we were there in early December). The restaurant offers complimentary breakfast - options of casado (beans, rice, eggs, fruit), continental (fruit, toast), american (fruit, eggs, toast). We had lunch and breakfast at the hotel and found the meals underwhelming. The service was a little slow for lunch as well. The location of the hotel is not within walking distance of town or any major attractions - unless you want to tempt fate and walk along the busy road with no sidewalk. We ended up using taxis pretty regularly to get anywhere which added up. Unless I was renting a car I wouldn't recommend this place for it's location.

We were just lucky to find Hotel La Pradera as we drove into town with no reservations and saw their sign with a special price indicated. WHAT A GREAT VALUE! We went to three other hotels to compare price/value. The rooms were extremely clean and free of any insects. The queen bed mattress was very comfortable and the rooms had just been freshened up with new paint, curtains, bedspread etc. Our choice was to stay in a room just behind the pool, with it's own little private patio in the middle of beautiful landscaping. The other option, which was a little more expensive and further from the pool, was the private cabins just behind the rooms. They looked nice but we, just two of us, decided to stay closer to the pool/restaurant/office and save a little money. The breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was very adequate with eggs to order, gallo pinto, pan cakes, plantains, coffee, juice, etc. The staff was friendly and helpful. One morning our car had two flat tires from driving on terribly rocky unpaved roads the day before. A staff member removed both of them and hauled me, and the tires, to the gas station to be repaired. Besides what I tipped the nice gentleman there was no charge for his help. The only negative was that there is no wi-fi in the rooms. You have to walk sixty seconds to the office/restaurant for a strong wi-fi signal.

La Pradera has an excellent view of Volcano Arenal and beautiful landscaping. That is where the good ends. I went with a large group, and they messed up the number of beds/room we reserved. Some of my group members had to sleep on the floor, and they offered absolutely no refund, not even partial. We had ants crawl on us in our sleep (at least we woke up with some on us). And last, but not least, the breakfast food was terrible. They did nothing to cover the fruit, so inevitably the fruit flies came. Pancakes were very dry. The milk was chunky. I recommend spending a little extra money for somewhere nicer.

We are a family of two parents, and two adult college-aged daughters. We stayed in one of the bungalows and loved it. It was extremely clean upon our arrival, had a small fridge, coffee and coffee maker, very large bathroom with shower and a small closet/clothes hanging area. It was spacious, plenty of room for our 4 adults. The view of the volcano was incredible, we could see it smoldering when the clouds lifted! The free breakfast offered in the mornings was more than adequate. The staff were all friendly and helpful too. They also had beautiful gardens and landscaping. We took a dunk into the pool and hot tub, very nice also. The price seemed reasonable when compared to other local accommodations, $110/night for 4 people, 2 double beds. The beds were a little firmer than I would have liked, but for only two nights, it did the job. We had a very nice front porch where we had chips, salsa, and beers before going to dinner at night. We were also less than 5 mins. from downtown area of La Fortuna, so easy to get to eating establishments and shopping. The Policia stopped us on our first day into town right after we parked, we were obviously tourists, he just wanted to point out to us that we should never leave passports, cameras, purses, cell phones, etc. in view. Very friendly, and especially nice to go out of his way to make this point, considering he spoke almost no English.
