“Beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2006

Our room was beautiful with hardwood handmade furniture, very spacious and a wonderful view of the Volcano, and best of all a soaker tub on the deck that was completely private. Hotel had a good buffet breakfast. This area had only opened up last month (jan) so there are still a few bugs to work out. The grounds are fairly steep to walk around to the main area and the restaurant.

Overall the stay was okay, but the meals (dinner) at the hotel restraurant is very expensive, so I would avoid and eat in town (La Fortuna) where there are much better places to eat and much less $$$$.

Had no power for about 12hrs one nite, but had a supply of candles available. I think the hotel has some wrinkles they need to iron out, but I would suggest staying else where for the $$$$.

We arrived AFTER 11.30p.m. and were warmly greeted by a waiting member of staff who personally accompanied us to the Celebrity Suite. We were instantly enchanted by the amenities of our suite - open air rain shower, jacuzzi on the terrace, well-stocked minibar (even had popcorn and beer on hand), and loads of space. The most incredible view brought the volcano, red-lipped and seething, onto our terrace. This proved to be a 6 star wow factor with our visiting New York friend, who was less than keen to return to the U.S. We were in the flighty company of elegant humming birds while we enjoyed breakfast the following morning. After an adrenalin-infused spell on the Canopy ropes, we slipped into the warm pools back at the hotel and sampled the best ever Piña Coladas !!! Here's the most wondrous occurrance that has ever befallen us in our travels: SINCE OUR SUITE HAD NOT BEEN RESERVED FOR THE FOLLOWING EVENING, THE HOTEL STAFF USED THEIR DISCRETION AND ALLOWED US TO STAY WAY PAST CHECK-OUT TIME...NOW THAT'S THE MARK OF A TRULY GREAT HOTEL....ENJOY !!!!

Spent three nights at this relatively new resort. It is not yet perfect but with an active owner on sight areas requiring improvement are being addressed. It has a great future. Our rooms were in the newer part, were spacious, with excellent taste in finishes and small touches. The views of the volcanic eruptions and lava flows were magnificant from our balcony, our jacuzzi or from the open air restaurant. There was an atmosphere of friendly service.

What a wonderful find! The Lost Iguana is a special jewel of a hotel nestled in the Arenal rainforest. From the moment we arrived at the Lost Iguana on Feb. 4, 2006, we fell in love with it. I have traveled the world over and can honestly say that this staff is one of the most service oriented. They are very, very helpful and accommodating. They are happy to help you book tours and even offer many discounts on activites in the area. From the top down, customer service deserves an A+.
All hotel rooms face the volcano as well as your bed in the room. You never need to get up in the middle of the night to see the spectactular show. We were lucky enough to have a fabulous display of the eruptions for two nights. Laying in bed and sitting on our comfortable rocking chairs on our balcony in the evening and watching the bright red lava flow down the mountain is a treat we will never forget.
The rooms at the Lost Iguana have a real jungle feel. They are well appointed and kept very clean.
The grounds are beautiful situated right in the rainforest. There are many wonderful trails to hike. Hanging Bridges is a short walk away and share the same rainforest as the Lost Iguana.
A wonderful hearty breakfast is included with lots of fresh tropical fruit. Dinners are excellent. We had fish one night and steak and prawns another night. The prices were very reasonable. Wines are excellent and very reasonable, as well, mostly coming from Chili and Argentina. There is a two tier swimming pool. The bottom one is cool (perfect for a swim after a days hike) The top one is warm with a swim up bar (perfect for sipping those tropical drinks).
I just want to thank the owner for creating such a marvelous resort in this beautiful rainforest to be enjoyed by all who are lucky enough to experience it.

We stayed at the Lost Iguana for two nights, and that was enough. Of the three resorts we visited, the lost Iguana was by far our least favorite. That's not to say the place didn't have its plusses- the setting was absoloutely beautiful, the pool was great, the view of the volcano was amazing. There was something about the place that felt unfinished (my husband noticed some evidence of shoddy contruction in our room). Unlike some other reviewers, we didn't have any real problems with the staff, though I think it's fair to say that they weren't too attentive. I had to change the CD at the poolside bar after it was skipping for 5 minutes with no staff to be found. I'll echo what others have said about the restaurant. The food was truly awful- like the kids menu at a chain restaurant. We ate dinner there one night, and knew we couldn't go there again. Instead, we found a lovely place in La Fortuna that provided a delicious local meal for about a fifth of the price.

Oh- one last thing. Don't waste your money on getting a room with a hottub. It was small and took almost an hour to fill. Not worth it.

A friend and I stayed 3 nights at Lost Iguana in January and left feeling very disappointed. While not the hotel's fault, we never once saw the volcano due to clouds and rain. The room, one of the older ones, was nicely furnished and clean. However, the restaurant was a disaster with terrible service and expensive, bland food. The worst part of the hotel was the front desk staff, who knew next to nothing about the various tour options, and were down right surly when it came to handling a bill problem. We also had a theft from our room and were made to feel as though we were making the whole thing up. I would not recommend this hotel until the service staff is changed and it has an attitude adjustment.
